What Does Ekúùlé Mean In English Language? by BankyGee(m): 6:27pm On Apr 28, 2019
Yoruba Language has some confusing words that cannot be translated into literal English Language.
Let's take a look at the word 'Ekúùlé' for instance, we all know it is used when you greet someone who's at home when you arrive home from a place.
But the million-dollar question here is:-
What does Ekúùlé literally mean in English? undecided

"Ekuule" or "Eku ile" is a simple way of announcing your home-coming in yoruba custom i.e "I'm back" or "I'm back home"

Yeah... Like I said, it doesn't have a literal translation...
I'm back - Mo ti dé
I'm back home - Mo ti wà nilé
Translate Ekúulé

Eku ile literally means you are asking those at home if they fine. You are also trying to tell those at home that you're back from a trip or journey. Their response will be "Eku abo"

What makes the sentence a little confusing is the word "Eku". Most people used to think it means "how". But it can used in diverse ways. Also, we deal with the real not the literal meanings in Yoruba.
