Kidnappers on Monday abducted the board chairman of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Muhammed Mahmood, along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.

Mr Mahmood was abducted alongside his daughter while travelling from Kaduna to Abuja Monday afternoon while his driver was killed.

They were kidnapped around Katari, a village few kilometres from Zuba, an Abuja suburb.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, Yakubu Sabo, said the force is working on getting more details and would release a statement later on Monday.

Tragedy! Fulani Herdsmen Kill SARS Boss

Fulani herdsmen have done it again. This time around, they went for the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Saki Unit in Oyo State Police Command.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the SARS boss was macheted to death by Fulani herdsmen Tuesday night during an operation in a forest at Saki-Ogbooro Road in Oke-Ogun area of the state.

Tribune stated that police authorities in the state have confirmed the killing of the SARS boss who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP.

He was responding to requests by the Elders for the Federal Government to grant amnesty to the sect members as well as withdraw the military Joint Task Force, JTF from Maiduguri and other areas in the state during the second day of his working visit to Borno State.. President Jonathan lamented that none of the elders in the state had publicly condemned the killings and bombings being carried out by the sect members and advised them to put their ‘’house in order,’’ by talking to their children who had been causing havoc in the country to drop their arms against the country.

On the removal of JTF, Jonathan said, “If anyone of you (referring to Borno Elders) wants the Federal Government to withdraw JTF troops from the state, he should come and sign an agreement that if anybody is killed after signing the document, I will hold you responsible according to the law of the land; I assure you that before I go back to Abuja all the JTF troops will leave the state.
“The Boko Haram insurgency is reducing gradually in states like Bauchi, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe and Niger among others, but in Borno State the situation is increasing. It is unfortunate, and this is because you the elders refused to come out and condemn the activities of the sect who are your children. This is not a time to be playing to the gallery,” the President stated. He equally told the Elders that, unless they put their house in order and talk to the sect members who are their children to lay down their arms and embrace peace, the Federal Government will not grant them amnesty, not to talk of withdrawing the men of the JTF.
None of the elders responded to the President’s challenge, but various speakers had tasked the Federal Government to remove all the bunkers/checkpoints and the JTF troops on the streets of Maiduguri, as well as grant amnesty to Boko Haram who have been terrorizing the state.
