Do we also teach them about the 1945 Jos massacre or the 1953 Kano genocide? Easterners were slaughtered in both circumstances

The killing of Easterners has long been going on by you Nigerians long before there was any coup

See, I’m not here to defend the atrocities of the past. I’m more interested in a peaceful, United, and prosperous Nigeria and that is what I think we should all be interested in. All I’m saying is, when we try to teach our children hatred, we should at least try and tell them the other side of the story.

How come a child is shot but the adult is spared? Were you using innocent children as bullet shield?
Nigerian soldier mainly targeted civilians. They bomb churches, schools, hospital and markets. It's more of a genocide than war.

Meanwhile Ojukwu ran away with his own children after leading his people to unthoughtful war. Namid Kaun is doing same today.

I don't think the Biafrans want a war. BUT, the Biafrans MUST prepare for a war. You cannot merely expect a barbarian looting your homeland to give it up just like that. WHY would they give it up without a fight?

My only comment is that Biafrans should NEVER plan a defensive war as they did in 1965. They should plan on an offensive war that solely aim to capture the capital of their adversary.

Biafrans must imbibe the Banyamulenge strategy of Laurent Desire Kabila to take over the capital of your adversary, not waiting in the bush to be surrounded and attacked.
Hmmm I Really Learned A lots Sir

You dont care about the atrocities of the past but you rushed to blame Igbos because of the January 1966 coup? Dont make me laugh

The peaceful, United and prosperous Nigeria you want is only possible if all parties share the same dream. You cant expect unity with someone who does not want to be with you and expect peace at the same time, not possible.

We were all brought together by the British in 1914 without consent. It is now long overdue to conduct a referendum to find out those who want to continue with Nigeria and those who want to go a different way

I will only address the part in bold. It is very wrong to claim I don’t care about the past atrocities. Indeed, no reasonable person can wish away the misdeeds of the past. Personally, I wish some of those sad events never happened. However, we must be fair enough to admit that atrocities were committed by all sides.

It is also wrong to accuse me of rushing to blame Igbos. I responded to a poster that said he will teach his children to hate all other Nigerians. I only told him it is fair to tell his children all sides of the story while at it.

While you teach your children to hate other Nigerians the same way your parents taught you to hate others, be kind enough to also teach them the atrocities your grandparents committed against other Nigerians during the first coup and during the Biafran invasion of Midwest.
If he teaches them that, make I bend.

Moment a biafran child was shot dead by invading forces. This picture depicts the darkest moment in our struggle to liberate Biafra. According to International Catholic Aid (ICA), an estimated 1.5 million biafran women and children died between 1960-1970. #We can never forget #Asaba massacre #horoes day #sit-at-home #may30th.

one reason why nigeria will never progress as a nation is there was no true reconciliation after the war.

never was their true reconciliation, if there was, why will the same government deny our people of their property in the name of "abandon property". Why will they hand us only 20 pound irrespective of our millions.
Why must will they divide us into south east and south South. Our father has fought the war and gone but we the children must continue until total freedom is achieved.

The FG has already recognized All those who fought the fatherland...Armed Forces Rememberance Day, Jan-15 .

wifeesnatcher:

My issue with this incessant emotions post of these Igbo Op here is the victim drama they're playing

In the civil war, not only Igbo was victims of loss, a lot of soldiers died and other tribes living in Igbo land lost their people too. For the fact that they lost most which is expected because they called for it, they should let the sleeping dog lies and forgive forever

I urge Igbo to let love rule, play inclusive and liberal politics that would influence the federal govt to recognized the civil war day celebration.

If federal govt want to put this sit at home behind forever from this ipob then they should recognise a day to celebrate those that lost their lives during the failed disintegration of ojukwu lack of foresight plan

At the initial stage, it was a patriotic movement but by young inexperienced soldiers. It wasn't meant to favour any tribe but Ifeajuna had other plans which I suspect became corrupted by Igbo politicians.

There were at least 3 coups in one going on simultaneously on Jan-15, 1966.

1) The Ifeajuna Coup to exterminate non-igbo Political leaders

2) The Aguiyu-Ironsi's coup to grab power.

3) The very naive and inexperienced Nzeogwu's coup to eliminate bad leaders and put Nigeria on the right pedaster.

Temple1288:
"No. Infact what attracted me to Nzeogwu at the early stage when the coup was being planned was that I asked him if he was going to make himself the Head of State and he said no. He said he was going to bring a civilian who was more knowledgeable and who had what it took to make Nigeria great. I then asked him who that person was and he said the man was in Calabar prison. I said is it Chief Obafemi Awolowo? He said yes. That was why I gave him my support but when he told me it was going to involve killings, I said no I was not interested again."

The ones who knew the truth can tell you it was a coup to favor the Yorubas more.

Border towns in these area Okene, Ibaji area of Igala land, Idoma area etc., such as Orokam, Owukpa, Utonkon were terrorized by Biafran renegades, with lives and sources of sustenance undermined.

MAY 30 AS IGBO NATIONAL/BIAFRA REMEMBRANCE DAY

In the name of Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) and all individuals and groups that currently share in the message it conveys:
ADF is aware that several groups, organizations and individuals have annually been celebrating this auspicious day in our History as a Remembrance Day in one form or the other. Many religious groups and several Pan-Igbo organizations including Pro-Biafra organizations such as Ekwenche, MASSOB, IPOB, Coalition of Pro-Biafra Groups, etc, have been celebrating this for some years.

ADF is of the view we as a people should collectively do this in remembrance and honour of the millions of our brothers and sisters who died for our sake, as well in honour of several nationalities and their Governments, Churches, Humanitarian Organizations and heroic individuals including those who burnt themselves for the sake of our liberty, we should hold May 30 as a Solemn Day in our history. We do this also for the sake of our National Consciousness, Solidarity and Unity as well as for our unity with all our neighbours who suffered with us and still believe in the unity and progress of our region.

Ndigbo do not bother whether the Nigerian Federal Government allies itself or not with the yearning of the Igbo for May 30 as their National Day, otherwise called BIAFTA DAY. It is a call made entirely in the interest of our Regional Unity and Solidarity.
The mode of celebration will certainly be determined accordingly. Activities such as free Sit-At-Home, holiday for workers, Public Lectures and Symposia, Rallies, Wearing of Black or Red Bands, etc, can be defined as forms of the Remembrance Day celebrations.
We shall formally address this appeal to all Governments, Churches, State Assemblies, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Clan and Town Union and other bodies for their endorsement of this call.

We are addressing it to you individually as major voices in our land. Please give this call your endorsement and push for its actualization.
PROF UZODINMA NWALA PROIF NATH ANIEKWU
