To me its just theatrical work at play there to heighten the moment as there's no way he would have known the dragon will fall before burning him to ash. And even if he knew Arya was about doing what she wanted to do, there's no way he would have also known she would succeed.
I don't remember Jon ever seeing Arya fight or being aware of the extent of her skills being good enough to destroy the Night King.

It was an unnecessary addition to that scene unless Jon suddenly felt the urge to be suicidal.

I decided to engage you on this despite the rudeness in your earlier comment, because I was so sure you would end up making my point for me.

First point:
I never said GRRM's work is based on the bible or Sun Tzu's work. I said the Art of War is something that has been laid down for ages so i understand why there is a cessation of hostilities to allow for discussing terms of surrender.

Second point:
If you have truly read the Art of War, the Deuteronomy account of the rules of war, and any other historical book that talks about war rules & tactics, you would most certainly have seen how they all look the same.
The laws of war as stated in the Geneva Convention also looks the same as that in Deuteronomy, you can go confirm that if you want.

Final point:
The esteemed and renowned people who gathered to pen down the war guidelines in the Geneva convention didn't think the Deuteronomy account was just a fairytale before incorporating it therein, so what you believe or don't believe about the bible doesn't just matter at all in the grand scheme of things.

..... Robert fought to bring the mad king down but just lost interest ruling and that enabled Tywin to manipulate and put his kids in the limelight. Robert might have saved the seven kingdoms from the mad king but I don't think he was any better and he caused the catastrophe that now plagues the show. If Cercei had any idea of Gendry, he would have been long dead before he was disgraced by a girl. A nightmare that would have been avoided but then no one is concerned about him. It's the Targeyans that actually have the claim to the throne hence the focus of the mad Queen on Dany but she doesn't know that there's another Dragon rider alive.

... So, it isn't the people of Westeros fault that a mad woman is ruling them but rather the failure of their king to rule his kingdom. Nothing they could have done against a rich man like Tywin. Honestly, at this point I'm all for using Drogon to rain down fire on kingslanding. If he can do that while reducing innocent casualties down to a minimum, better for everyone.
Another scenario is that Arya actually sneaks in and successfully murders Cercei quietly.

The tactic of using diplomacy has failed with Cercei up till this point and now more than ever, I believe the words of Otto Von Bismark, former Prussian (German) minister in his speech to parliament;
