You miss the point. Jonathan wasn't supposed to run. The agreement he had with the PDP was to complete a term then hand over power to the North since Yar'Adua never completed his tenure and Jonathan used two years from it. He disregard the agreement and went ahead to contest. That singular act destroyed the PDP.

Many, many reasons. The 'women rule' was one of the primary reasons. He wasn't in control and his garrulous wife got louder than ever, up until he was ousted.
