My Whole entire point...the only thing we remember is the VFX and Blue people speaking one savvy language. Can't even remember a single dialogue or a single scene delivery that blew me away.

Some movies are unforgettable, while some are unmemorable. Another James Cameron movie, the Titanic belongs to the former. 21 years after watching that movie, I can still remember almost every line scene. However, prior to today, anytime I think of Avatar, all that flashes through my head are images of a bunch blue aliens with long faces and big eyes running around. The storyline is a blank because the entire movie itself is very unmemorable.

I watched Kick Ass same time with Avatar and that one stuck in my head, not the mighty, groundbreaking Avatar

And I Still haven't seen avatar. Read the plot on google and it didn't seem interesting. But it doesn't become highest grossing for nothing..
Let my endgame just overtake it.

i gained interest in SW few years back when i binged on the first 6 movies (prequel and original trilogies),that interest is gradually dying

Don't bother watching if you won't start from the very first movie in the franchise (it has been in my laptop for ages and i haven't gone beyond the first 25 minutes). I'm not a Star Wars fan myself.

I was never a fan of Star Wars like you, in short my first Star Wars film was 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and I instantly loved it. Since then, I've followed the rest of the Star Wars including the the solo ones like Solo: A Star Wars Story.

I'll encourage you to watch them all, but while majority of Star Wars fans dislike Solo, I enjoyed it very much, I still have the large file in my hard drive drive. In short, I love it more than The Last Jedi which is critically rated higher than Solo. If I'm to rate them in order of ones I love the most, It'd be:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

I'll encourage you to watch all 4 and decide if Solo is worth it or not. Koice gave the reason why the movie was disliked, and it had nothing to do with mediocrity.

You can also start watching the whole franchise from the beginning if you have such patience and time on your hands.

Go ahead and watch Solo. It's a standalone, and actually a very fun origin story of one of Star Wars iconic characters, Hans Solo.

However, you need to watch "The Force Awakens" before venturing into "The Last Jedi" for context.
