I heard the system is so corrupt that once you can pay heavily for the cert, it would be handed to you, while those who know their onion in Medicine are failed yearly. While Nigerians continue bashing their Doctors, other countries have opened their borders to them.

I had a friend say to me, UK trained Doctor, 'I have never seen a Nigerian Doctor that doesn't have that stuff upstairs, he might not know how to use those equipment, but he knows the theory!'

While there are horrible ones amongst them, most of Nigerian Doctors are not doing badly with what they are given. Or can you compare with many other courses-- fresh graduate for fresh graduate!

Quite a number of my friends were offered jobs by their PPAs immediately after service. Some were encouraged consistently to join the Military. Will it have been this way if they were numbskulls?

I am 98% sure the story teller is not suffering from any drug reaction. Nobody is thinking of his symptoms even before he went to the camp clinic. Could he be suffering from that still?

Pylori test for bacteria in the stomach it has been known to cause physiological problems of different no concrete symptoms and get treated for the it your symptoms will disappear i suspect it has to do with the food you ate... Please don't ignore this.. Your symptoms sounds familiar to me... Hope this helps

Op I hope you see this message please go for this test I didn't want to go into details but I had similar symptoms pins in my left leg and sometimes left hand can't sleep at night cos my legs is going numb and cold waking up suddenly cos my heart is racing (did an ECG test was okay no heart problem, did full blood count was okay had my chest examined was okay) I could not concentrate on anything, fear of dying sweating at night even with the fan on.. I was a mess, stomach cramps too and heartburn burning sensation too.. Until one doctor made me do the h. Pylori test and was positive just two days of medication was back to my self.. But the side effects will drive u to the edge... You got ur whole life ahead of you. And a long way to go.. Get tested and rule dat out at least.... One love

Burning sensation, cold sensation and tingling are all symptoms of neuropathy. These abnormal sensations collectively are called parathesia. Experiencing these all over your body is now a different case on its own. I don't see a way to explain or attribute it to that injection.

Maybe you've have an underlying disease.

Please visit a hospital. I hope you meet a good doctor that'll help you and ask the right questions. Good luck.

Am a NYSC batch B, stream 1, 2018 corp member.

I was in NYSC permanent orientation camp Mangu, Plateau State for NYSC orientation exercise. After eating launch that was served in camp on the 12-August-2018 I started having severe heartburn, painful urination, abdominal discomfort and also felt like fainting. I took plenty of water that day and went to bed. I woke up the next day which was the day of the camp closing ceremony feeling much worse so I rushed to the camp clinic. I was given ciprofloxacin and metronidazole tablets by a doctor who was a corp member. No lab test was done to ascertain the cause of my problem. I took the tablets but didn't feel better.

As time went on my situation got worse and I struggled to walk so I decided to leave the camp and find a medical facility outside where I could receive proper treatment. When I got to the gate of the camp I was stopped by a police man. He told me I was not allowed to leave the camp until the closing ceremony was over. I told him about my health issue and that I wanted to find a medical facility outside the camp where I could get proper treatment but he still refused to let me leave and insisted that I should use the camp clinic instead. I went back to the camp clinic and there I was given an injection on the right thigh by a doctor who was a corp member.

In the previous days in camp I applied for relocation. It was not granted so I went to pursue the matter. I returned to the camp clinic later to complain that my situation was not improving but I was Ignored. I sat in the consulting room and waited but the doctors acted as if no body was sitting there. I didn't even collect my posting letter that day because I was busy pursuing my health issue. I returned home (to Abuja) that day.

Two weeks later I started having severe burning pain in the leg that was injected. The leg felt very cold but was not cold to the touch. Immediately the pain started I knew it was the injection I received at the NYSC camp that caused it. The pain is very severe in the foot and also in the thigh that was injected. The burning pain has subsequently spread to all parts of my body. I feel it all over my head and my face and its causing me constant headache. The burning pain is the type you have after very hot water pours on your skin. I also have tingling (sensation of being stabbed with pins and needles) in my hands and right foot. My right leg has become very tender to the touch making walking, sitting, and lying with the leg touching a surface very painful.

Recently my right foot has started to go numb on one side. Whenever the pain is very severe I start thinking of ways to take my life. I have been to different hospitals and also took medication but no improvement. The pain is only worsening. I wish for death everyday but death is not coming. I have informed the NYSC Zonal inspector and also LGI (Local Government Inspector) in my place of primary assignment about my situation and also discussed with my LGI in January 2019 about them summoning the corp member doctors who were with us in camp so I could identify the one who injected me and get information about what he injected me but he told me that it will be difficult or almost impossible to do that. I don't know what to do now.

Before all this happened I was planning to venture into business full time. These days I can't even concentrate when performing activities such a studying, thinking, and reflecting because of pain and constant headache. Am i pain 24/7. The best I do when the pain is at peak is manage to sleep. I have lost interest in everything including life. Has any one reading this been in a similar situation or know what I can do now to get out of this situation. I'd like to get your inputs..
Death looks more attractive to me everyday. It seems like the best option available now. I never knew all my dreams and aspirations would be shattered by just one injection shot.

Sorry man, but first of all, don't give up on life.
Secondly, for things like this, I would suggest you visit a reputable Teaching hospital and explained everything in detail to the Doctor that would see you there. I am sure, you would likely get help
I mean a reputable TEACHING HOSPITAL, where there are numerous consultants/specialist
Explain everything in detail includin all that has been done, where you have been to and the medications you have taken or so.

Is it NYSC doctors that set up the clinic. You people don't know how to talk. People that are doing selfless services. All what you guys go to do in camp is to flex and drink to stupor. You don't know how many lives they have saved? Ingrate.

Are you minding people that don’t reason before they spill thrash. Not all of them that report to camp clinics are even genuinely ill, they just jampack the place and make it more difficult and stressful for the doctors there .

I agree with your submission however you were a bit harsh in your response. The nurse gave that guy injection on the instruction of the doctor which this guy complained off even though he exaggerated the whole thing.

It was the doctor I laid my complain to who gave me the injection.

I do feel bad for this guy and hope he gets the necessary medical attention he needs at a good hospital
However, we need to be rational in our arguments and not get carried away by emotions.
First, he had some symptoms before the injection incident which shouldnt be overlooked. Secondly, a corps member doctor isnt paid to do what he does and is rendering a 'service' and shouldnt be blamed for such, we all know there are no labs or good drugs in camp. Also the camp doctor doesnt prevent patients who do not feel satisfied from seeking better care outside the camp. A lot of these issues shld be attributed to NYSC really.
I am a doctor and i'm good at my job, no doubt there are bad doctors but really its like asking an engineer to construct an highway with a chisel what we ask for sometimes.

Seriously I was sick wen I was in camp, only for me to get to d clinic and was given some trash as drug. I didn't take d drugs tho, knowing fully well d drug had nothing to do with my condition at that moment, just managed till I got back home.

Some nearly died in camp den. Honestly government need to look into this aspect, experienced doctors sud always be sent to camp, those guys can just be assisting them.

I don't even know d importance of the Nysc till now.

Op, please go to a government hospital, if possible, let it be a teaching hospital where we have specialists. I'm sure u wud get solution to it if u can do this. Act fast please.

Provisional diagnosis has killed many, but doctor's won't hear... See eh, if u go to any hospital and after telling the clinician how u feel, and he quickly prescribes drugs for u, please run... You apparently know next to nothing about medical practice.
In acute medical conditions empirical treatment is instituted(which is subject to review in the light of investigation findings) following clinical history and thorough physical examination. The clinical features the op presented with are in keeping with gastroenteritis and UTI and the doctor accordingly placed him on ciprofloxacin which is a wide spectrum antibiotic and metronidazole, an antiprotozoal agent.
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone which is effective for UTI. Ciprofloxacin and metronidazole are an ideal combination for gastroenteritis.
It important to note that the two drugs above have a wide safety margin and could not account for what op is experiencing.
It has rightly been pointed out that his symptoms are due to somatization and as such he will benefit from psychiatric review and management.
From the above explanation it is patently clear that it is your crass ignorance that is making you puke.

Sorry about the OP's plight.

For those saying they should have conducted tests, it's like you guys have not been to the camp clinic. There is practically no lab! There are medlab scientists but they cannot do any serious test there.

The clinics are ill equipped. Few drugs, few test kits, few Stethoscopes etc. Nobody can get the best care there.

Let's assume the doctor did not attend to the op, that would have been another issue.

The only place the OP could have gotten better care was outside the camp and he wasn't allowed to leave the camp.


And just like many persons have pointed out, there is something else going on here, it may not just the injection since it took two weeks to manifest.

The burning pain started in the leg that was injected and remained in that leg for some time before it started spreading to other parts of my body. However I will discuss the H.pylori with the doctor too. Thanks
