'I will always love you, no matter what.' He winked.

'I know.' She winked back.

He nodded. 'Yes, the two of us know.'

She came to wrap her hands around his neck again.

'I love you so much.' Her voice was cool and dreamy.

'I love you so, so much.'

In his mind, he thanked God for everything. God was, indeed, his strength. If not God, how would he have held himself back in the first place?
How would he have succeeded in holding himself back from going beyond what he had done with her?

She too appeared to be very understanding. But it was more like she was teasing him and watching how strong he was in restraining himself.
That was Raphael's thinking. Whether he was correct or not, he knew he had not done so bad.

'When did you say you're travelling?' Her eyes locked his.

'By December 22nd.'

'I wish I could go with you.'

He smiled. 'Don't worry, I believe very soon, we'll be able to do whatever we want to do without any inhibition.'

She nodded. 'Any way, I'll still see you before you travel.'

'Even if we don't see, we could always call each other.'

She nodded again. She checked her watch and realized time had gone. She stood up.

'I should be on my way. I'll give you a call later today.' She picked the car keys from the center table.

'That will be fine. I appreciate your coming.' He stood up too.

They held each other in a tight embrace again. He continued to smile and hold her tight. They were like that for a long time.

'I don't feel like going.' Again, her voice was dreamy. "I feel like being with you forever.'

He laughed. 'It's not yet time for that. When it's time, we'll be together forever.'

She nodded. He was right.

He realized he needed to prod her. 'My dear, I do want anyone to talk to you anyhow on my account. It's time to go home for now.'

'Alright.'
She unwrapped her hands and stepped out of the sitting room. They held hands as he accompanied her to the car.

'I would have driven you home, but you know how it is.' There was apology in his looks.

'I know.' She opened the car door and stepped inside the car.

The engine came alive. She smiled at him, waved and drove off.

Raphael waved back at her and remained at the gate until her car was out of sight. Then he returned to the sitting room. He sat on the sofa
and thanked God for another successful time with Janet. He had no doubt that God would continue to be his source of strength.

There was a knock on the door again. Now, who again could that be? He went to the door. He was surprised to see Becky there.

'Hello, Becky. How d'you do?'

She was all smiles. 'Fine.'

'Come in.' He ushered her inside. 'Janet left not long ago.'

'I know.' She sat on the sofa while he chose to sit opposite her.

'Okay, you met her on your way here?'
'No. I've been around for some time.' Becky looked excited. 'I saw her car parked outside so I knew she was around. I had to stay at the shop
of a woman who sells drinks not far away to pass the time.'

'Really?' His face creased into a slight frown. 'Why did you go through that trouble? You could have come in.'

'I didn't want to disturb you.' She gave a knowing smile.

He ignored her snide reference. 'Anyway, how can I entertain you?'

'Don't worry, I've taken snacks at that woman's shop.'

'I see.' He picked the remote control and switched on the television. He scrolled through the channels and took it to the African movies
channel.

'Why are you still seeing her?' Becky eyes searched his face.

'Seeing who?' It was quite obvious he was feigning ignorance, but he didn't mind.

'Janet, of course.'

'What d'you mean why am I seeing her?' He avoided looking at her. Instead he focused on the t.v.

'It's an open secret that the director has ordered the two of you not see each other again.' Becky's smile was between teasing and mocking.

Raphael was surprised. 'I didn't know everyone knows.' He shot her a glance.

'Yes everyone knows. So, back to the question, why are you still seeing each other?'

'Love is not something that can be stifled.' He sat back on his seat.

'You really think you're in love with her?' Again, her voice had tinges of mockery.

'I believe so.' He nodded to himself.

'And you think she loves you?'

'Yes I believe so.' Again, he was very assertive.

'But how could you be so selfish and insensitive?' The question came as a surprise.

He felt stung by the accusation.

'How?'

She snorted. 'You ask me how. Is it not obvious?'

He shook his head. 'Please, explain what you mean.'

She sighed and gazed at him. 'You ignore the one that first loves you for this one.'

Raphael frowned. 'I don't understand what you're talking about.'

There was a brief silence.

'Why do you hate me so much?' Her eyes remained on him.

'Hate you?' He was surprised again. He shook his head. 'I don't hate you, Becky.'

'Really?'

'Of course. Why should I hate you?' He tried to gaze at her but soon moved his eyes away.

'So, why have you been ignoring me all this while?' It was a challenge. Among other things, Becky had come to challenge him.

'I didn't ignore you. You and I have always been friends even before Janet came into the picture.'

'Why then did you ditch me for her? Why did you terribly let me down?' Now, the challenges had moved on to become an accusation.

He felt something was definitely wrong somewhere. 'Wait a minute, we were just friends, remember?'

'You use her coming into your life to spite me, and it's so unfair.' Her tone had indignation. Plus bitterness.

He felt perplexed. 'Becky, you're taking this thing beyond what it is.'

It was Becky's turn to have tears in her eyes. Raphael was confounded.

'Oh, please, don't do that. I thought you understand better.'

She got up to come and sit by his side, sniveling.

'Becky, I never knew you took it like this. Alright, I'm sorry.'

She put her head on his shoulder and held him.

Raphael shook his head in utter confusion. He didn't know whether to hold her in turn or just talk to her.

But the confusion soon disappeared. Oblivious to him, while her left hand encircled his neck, the right one unbuttoned her blouse. When she
had unbuttoned it, she put his left hand on her bust and squeezed.

He was momentarily shocked and unable to react. Then he came out of the trance.

'No, no, no, Becky. I can't do that!'

She gripped his hand and held on tight to his neck.

'Becky, wait, wait!'

She did not listen to him. Rather, she put her lips on his own and kissed him hard.

He had to exert more force to stop her kiss and to disengage himself from her grip. He hurriedly stood up and moved away from her. He remained standing, the door within his reach.

'Becky, what has come over you?' He shocked at her audacity.

As if she didn't hear him, she went on to completely unbutton her blouse and remove it. The red bra she was wearing had lacy edges. He gazed at her in befuddlement. He wanted to look away but couldn't.

Within the next few seconds, several thoughts came into his mind.

Oh boy, what are you waiting for? A voice asked. See fine babe. Look at those curves. See her shape, so gorgeous! And look at those sexy
bust! Na so you go dey look like mumu?

'Come on, I didn't come to fight you. I come in peace.' Beck stood in a daring pose with a big smile.

He stared at her with his mouth open.

'And why're you looking like that?' Her tone was sarcastic. 'You've seen me like this before, haven't you? Well, except that then I was mostly
lying on my tummy; and I wasn't facing you directly like this.'

He said nothing to that. He realized he was breathing fast and his mouth was dry.

Another mind blinked red light.

'Don't you you like me at all? Why're you acting as if you hate me?'

'I don't hate you.' It was a mumble. He could hardly hear himself.

'Then, why are you behaving like this?'

The red light continued to blink.

'Becky, please wear your cloth. You're a good and decent lady, I've always have regard for you.'

'I have regard for you too. Is it a crime to like you?'

He gulped without answering.

'Tell me, is it a bad thing that I like you?'

He paused briefly. ' No, it's not.'

'So, come on.' Her smile was half teasing and half mocking.

No, you can't! Don't be another Samson in the hands of Delilah.

'I can't. It's a sin.' His voice was croaky but it was more audible. 'Wear your cloth and let's relate decently as we used to.'

She appeared to muse over what he had said.

'I will, but I need a promise.' The teasing remained.

'What promise?'

'Come, let me tell you.' She beckoned and broadened her smile. 'Come over here.'

In addition to the red-light, he could hear an alarm in his head.

In addition to the red-light, he could hear an alarm in his head.

He knew he was wasting time. In her current state, reasons had taken flight. She seemed desirous of getting what she wanted.

'Something must have come over you today.' He knew his verdict was apt.

Becky continued to stand in that I-dare-you manner. She still smiled at him. Her hands were akimbo.

'I always thought you're a man. Why're you behaving like a sissy? If you are really, really a man, come and take me.'

Yes, if indeed you're a man, go and take her, the former voice concurred. Only a fool will lose this opportunity.

But the latter voice said only one word: Don't!

He shook his head. Sanity must prevail.

'I'm a man, but what you said is not the way to prove that one is a man. A real man must say no when he sees bait. Now, I'm going to ask you
to leave.' He pointed at the door.

'You're such a fool.' Her voice was full of scorn. 'A very big fool.'

'Just wear your cloth and get out of here.' The finger still pointed at the door.

'And if I don't get out, what will you do? Beat me?' She took a step towards him in that daring mode.

He sighed in exasperation. 'If you don't go, I'll leave the place for you. So, please go.'

She remained on the spot, glaring at him. From her looks, she wasn't in any way ready to wear the blouse or go away.

He moved towards the door. He had had enough of the scene.

Without hesitation, he opened it and stepped out.

It was her turn to be shocked when he did what he said he would do.

Raphael moved out of his apartment and out of the compound. He went to stand by the gate.

Something must be wrong somewhere, he thought. Becky had never behaved like this before. Something must have come over her!

Becky was in chagrin as she watched him leave the living room. So, he could make good his threat and leave her!

What was wrong with him? Why was he acting as if he was holier than the pope? She had only come to express her feelings for him, and had
taken the bold steps. Why was he acting as if she had committed a crime? Shouldn't he have jumped at the offer?

Apart from Janet coming from a wealthy background, Becky felt she was better than Janet in all other ways. Becky's desire for Raphael was not because she lacked a man in her life; her desire was because she liked him.

Her eyes moved from the shoulders to her bust, her waist, her thighs and legs. What she could see was a very attractive and beautiful body.
She believed Janet could not stand her beauty. Why couldn't Raphael grab the opportunity that was freely offered to him?

Now, he had even stepped outside. What would she do now? The way he left showed that he had the determination to do so and would not
return as long as she was there. Becky shook her head.

She felt so disgraced. This was the second time he would be overtly rejecting her. The first one was very subtle. This one was even worse than the earlier one.

No man had ever treated her this way. How would she offer herself to him and he would treat her with so much disdain?

She felt so disgraced. This was the second time he would be overtly rejecting her. The first one was very subtle. This one was even worse than the earlier one.

No man had ever treated her this way. How would she offer herself to him and he would treat her with so much disdain?

His phone was ringing on the center table. In his haste to leave her, he had left it behind.

Becky moved to it. The caller's number was stored as Janet dear. Becky hesitated briefly and decided to pick it.

'Hello, who's on the line?'

The caller paused. 'Hello, is this not Raphael's number?'

Becky smiled to herself. She recognized Janet's voice.

'Yes, this is his number. Can I help you please?'

'Where is he?' Janet sounded like she was making a demand.

'He went out to get some drinks.'

'Oh, I see. I'll call back.'

The line was disconnected.. Becky smiled to herself. She would teach Raphael a bitter lesson. She brought out her phone and copied Janet's number on it. That number would soon be useful.

She waited some few more minutes and then decided to leave. If he thought he could spurn her, he was making a big mistake. Before she left, she removed her undies, brought out a razor blade from her bag and cut the pant at the straps. She then dropped it on his sofa.

Raphael waited for several minutes before Becky finally came out of his apartment. She went past him as if he wasn't there. Raphael could not even look at her. He was too shocked by the whole scenario.

But he was glad as she walked away and out of his view. He shook his head again and returned into his apartment. As soon as he entered the sitting room, the undies she left caught his attention. He moved closer to have a look. Why did she do that? What could be the motive? He knew that whatever could be the motive was sinister.

Maybe she was planning to come back, his mind thought. Quickly he went to bolt the door. He would not open it for her if she should come back.
He picked the wear and put it in nylon. Then he took it to the bathroom and left it there.

The moment Becky was out of the vicinity of Raphael's house, she put a call to Janet. It was time to start executing her plans.

'Good evening, ma'am.' Becky scowled to show seriousness.

'Good evening. Please who's on the line?'

'I'm Becky. I 'm one of the teachers at Apez College.'

'Good evening, Becky. What can I do for you?'

'I was the one that picked Raphael's phone some minutes ago when you called.'

'Really?' There was surprise in her voice.

'Yes. I understand you're in a relationship with him. It's not my business, but my conscience is bothering me.'

'Over what?'

Becky allowed a pause before she continued. 'I want to tell you that he is a wolf in a sheep's clothing. He pretends to be godly but he is far from that. I've been in relationship with him for some time now, so I know him very well.
'When he wanted to start the relationship with you, he told me it was for whatever he could get from it; that he would never leave me. I didn't like the plan, but he assured me not to worry..'

Janet sighed over the line.

Becky continued her lurid tale. 'This evening, I went over to his house since he asked me to come over, and since I live not far from his house. He told me you just left. We were chatting when he said that he was in the mood. I wasn't in the mood, and I told him.
'I thought he would understand that I cannot always be in the mood for him. He wanted to have his way as usual but I said no. He struggled with me and tore my underwear.'

Becky have a dramatic pause. 'Can you believe that? He practically tore it. I had to leave his apartment in a hurry. I felt he was just using me too, that he doesn't really love me as he says. I'm fed up with his antics and felt I should let you know that he's up to no good.'

There was a long pause across the line. Becky wondered if Janet was still there.

The latter's voice finally came over. 'Are you sure of all these allegations you're making?'

Becky smiled to herself. 'Of course. If not that I don't want it to become a scandal, I will go straight to the police station to report the matter. But, I won't do that. Even as I speak with you, my underwear is in his place. In my hurry to get out of that place, there's no way I could take it.'

There was another long pause.

'How long has your relationship with him been going on?' Janet's voice sounded tired.

'Over a year.'

'And it's still going on?'

'Yes, up to this evening.' Becky was gleeful. 'With what he did not long ago, I'm convinced he has been deceiving me. I don't think I want to continue again.'

There was yet another long pause. 'Alright, Becky. Thank you for the information.'

'You're welcome, ma'am.'

The moment Janet disconnected the line, she realized she had a headache. She dropped the phone on her bed and went downstairs. She could not even think straight. What Becky had said was too much for her.

She met Zizi in the kitchen.

'Well-done. Can you please get me some analgesics? I have a headache.' She touched her forehead slightly.
