I know most people hate Sanusi for always speaking on the side of truth or what he perceived to be the truth. He was a prince and later became an Emir, he did not need to confront the powers that be and be on the side of the poor masses, but he choose the risky path and has been paying for that choice.
Ironically, one would think the youth would support him, but the youth rather support the Atiku, Saraki, APC, PDP, in fact the status quo.

Please try and watch it. You will find out that Lamido Sanusi is about the only elite left that shows serious concerns about the poor, especially in the north east, and hence his troubles with the elites and their supporters.

This is another speech he gave after he became Emir, in which he lambasted the political elites in Nigeria. You can see genuine concern in his voice.
I suspect this speech is the Genesis of his present predicament.
