What is the state government doing about the people that create and sell in an abattoir close to an International airport, at the end of the runway for that matter. Instead of discussing and finding way to bring solutions to the problem he result to blame and jibes.

Enugu airport should be downgraded as the new Anambra international airport will take off soon and water won't be an issue.

A CHIEFTAIN of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Chief Chinedu Eya has warned that the planned downgrading of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu state will lead to National crisis.

“Aside overcrowding of the remaining international gateways in the country, increased security concerns and loss of income to the Nigerian Airport Authorities if the downgrading succeeds, no country anywhere in the world will choose closure or downgrading of its already existing international gateway to rehabilitation, upgrading or reconstruction. It doesn’t make economic sense to me;” Gwiyi Solomon, Chief Eya’s Media Adviser quoted him as saying.

I was desperately waiting for this! That airport looks too ordinary!! There was a day I booked a morning flight, got to the airport and met tons of people unattended to. It was the first time I heard that the airport doesn't switch on its generator until 6am.

Who are you blaming? When FG upgraded it to an international airport, it became FG’s responsibility to fix it. Airports don’t fix themselves anywhere in the world. People do.

Maintenance culture goes a long way. I'd like to believe certain things were put in place to better manage the airport. I can't remember the last time something was said about MMIA. So bad was the Akanu Ibiam runway that one prays just to get in the air.

Personally, I am of the opinion that it is not worthy of the international status. The airport gets busy on some days but scanty and almost empty on most part.

You are missing the point here, bro. FG plans to spend over 10 billion Naira in upgrades in a wing of MMA, but doesn’t see the need do anything else but downgrade the only “International Airport “ in SE region. Why can’t FG spend 20 billion on the Enugu Airport?

Let FG fix whatever issues the Airport has. That’s the right approach. When SE complains of marginalization, we all laugh and blame them. Things like these show the inequity in our country.

There was no national crisis when his party people from the same SE was cutting the money budgeted for the airport. Now that the airport is not up to standard it will cause national crisis.
