How can one law BE applicable to Kenya and not on the other nations? If the maritime boundary is the extension of the land boundary, then the status quo changes on all and this decision will open up a litany of cases. If the maritime boundary runs parallel to the equator then the status quo remains. I thought Hague was going to be felt in Kenya, well they did nothing...what of ICJ? Kazikazi: |

God has blessed these west african country called Nigeria with abundant mineral resources but it a shame that we chose to ride on the back of oil only, therby ignoring other sectors like gas sector and minning sector but hope seems to have come as the federal government of nigeria has embarked on a journey to locate and discover new mineral in nigeria, and trust me it has been a success so far . Just read and enjoy FG Discovers High Quality Platinum Mineral In Niger By ADEMOKOYA TEMIDAYO - 2 months ago The Federal Government say it has discovered high quality of platinum group elements in a village in Niger. Alhaji Abubakar Bwari, the Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, announced this on Monday at the groundbreaking ceremony of AG Vision Mining Site in Suleja Local Government Area of the state. Bwari said that the large mineral deposit was discovered at Kuchiko village in Suleja. He added that the quality of the discovery was higher than that of South Africa, regarded as the highest deposit of the mineral in the world. “A preliminary report by the company shows high deposit of minerals we are looking for. “From what we have seen, the results are quite encouraging. The platinum group they have seen so far, the quality we have is higher than that of South Africa. And they are world largest producer of platinum group metal. “That goes to show that Nigeria is highly endowed with this mineral. But what we are looking for now is the commercial viability of the mineral,’’ he said. He said that the discovery was made by AG Vision Mining, awarded the exploration project in 2018. He said that the Federal Government had earmarked N15 billion for exploration of minerals in Nigeria to generate detailed geoscience data of quality and quantity of available minerals in the country. He said the project aimed at addressing one of the key challenges in the development of the solid minerals sector, which was the absence of bankable mineral data. “No investor will take us seriously if we are unable to provide the kind of accurate, verifiable data that speaks to both the quality of mineral we have in Nigeria. “This project is the biggest exploration activity of its kind ever embarked upon by the ministry,” he said. According to him, the project is domiciled in the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) and it is being supervised by the MMSD, it is also funded through the Natural Resources Fund. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the N15 billion was drawn from the Natural Resource Development Fund to the ministry as intervention fund to focus on exploration which is the heart of mining. He said that the project was designed to be executed and funded in phases, from the desktop studies, geological mapping among others. The state minister said that all exploration companies and consultants handling exploration projects should provide reports at the end of each project phase. “The objective of the project is not limited to the generation of detailed geoscience information like ore reserves, mineral occurrences, discovery and reporting of new minerals, quality and grade of ore and minerals. “The objective is to also improve the geological knowledge of the locality, generate wealth and employment along value chain; the outcome of the project will be used for policy and research purpose.” Dr Abubakar Mua’zu, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry said that the project was timely as it would attract more mining investors into the country. Dr Abdulrazak Garba, the Director-General, Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) said the project was initiated to bridge the gap between exploration data and mining development. Garba said the project was also designed to know locations of minerals such as gold, lead and zinc, silver, copper, tantalite among others in Nigeria. Mr Fadi Ghazale, the Managing-Director, AG Vision Mining said the event was another landmark in the roadmap towards development of Nigeria’s solid minerals industry. According to Ghazale, AG vision mining is currently exploring in many states, such as Niger, Ogun and Oyo states. (NAN) ![]() ![]() ![]() 1 Like |

More on our mineral resourcess ![]() ![]() MARITIME FG to establish port for solid mineral shipment Published April 25, 2019 Anna Okon The Federal Government has commenced moves to rehabilitate the old Burutu port in Delta State and dedicate it to shipment of solid mineral. The Managing Director, Nigeria Export and Import Bank, Mr Abubakar Bello, gave this indication at a recent stakeholders’ meeting on the cessation of Cabotage waivers. According to the NEXIM bank chief, Nigerian importers have challenges moving their bulk cargoes to their place of use. Bello who was represented by his Special Assistant, Mr Hope Yongo, said that most of these cargoes were in millions of tonnage kept around the River Niger. He said, “So what we did was to look around and see how we could deepen the inland waterways so that we can use barges to move them. “We discovered that there is an abandoned port somewhere in Burutu, it is one of the first ports in Nigeria and it is lying fallow. “So we are partnering with the owner to convert it to a solid mineral port.” He said the bank was considering moving solid minerals like coal, iron Ore, lime stone and the rest through the port. Bello explained that although the bank had been involved in the project over the past five years, it was busy developing the inland waterways in preparation for the movement of the cargoes. On how soon they hope to commence operation, Bello said that before the end of the year, the Burutu port should be ready for use. The Federal Government has also developed new mineral export guidelines to ensure accurate data of mineral exports. The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Bwari Abubakar, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Technical Matters, Mr Henry Davies, during a mining summit in Lagos, also disclosed that along with the guidelines, the government had decided to reduce the time for processing of mineral export permits from two weeks to two days. “We have also created an Investment Promotion and Trade department in the ministry to ensure smooth transaction throughout the solid mineral value chain,” he said. 1 Like |

South Africa ~ Stats SA has published the latest quarterly GDP data, covering the first quarter of 2019, showing a larger contraction than expected. The data shows that South Africa’s GDP declined by 3.2% in the first quarter – a much bigger drop than estimations of around a 1.6% decline. The drop was mainly driven by declines in manufacturing and mining, the stats body said, with the final figure reflecting the largest quarterly drop in about 10 years. The primary sector declined by 11.4% as agriculture recorded a 13.2% drop and mining declined by 10.8%. The secondary sector recorded a drop of 7.4% driven by declining manufacturing and electricity industries. |
