How has China ripped kenya off? Kenya main debt to Chinese is SGR (600Kms completed and operational rail done in record 3yrs) - it's 50% concessional loan (nearly zero interest) - and 50% commercial loan - and our SGR is already achieving 5yr projected target on it's 2nd year of projection. SGR did not give Mombasa port as security. What Kenya Ports was made to sign is reserve 40% of cargo to SGR or pay for it. The rest of chinese loans are mostly concessional and competitive with Brettonwood loans (Imf & WB).

I mean you can talk about Ethiopia struggling with SGR loan - because they already asked for 30yr extension - Kenya has no problem - and has historically never had debt crisis - we know what prudent management of funds is - something Nigeria or Tanzania have no idea what it's mean.

obaaderemi:
Of course. So boasting about Kenya's importance in China's belt and Road initiative is just plain silly. grin Nigerians should be the ones boasting about that because we receive more stock of Chinese investments than Kenya or any other African country except South Africa. And yet Nigeria's debt to China is smaller than Kenya's debt to China. The Chinese have seriously ripped Kenya off.Nigeria and others must learn this. grin

u're one of reasons I love to make jest of rvp. U're just so gullible.

Abj/kad line is not our most important line unlike ur nairobi/mombasa line, ours is just a section of lagos-kano line. Abuja n kaduna are not populated like lagos.

Economic-wise...Ur two major cities are Nairobi and Mombasa, Abuja/kaduna are not our major cities.

So having a certain amount of passenger n comparing it with abj/kad is just funny.

Then what was the point of building a new Abuja.Kaduna railway line ??

Now that is car manufacturing - re-badging Chinese cars - like Nigerians and Ghanians are doing is crazy and won't be allowed in many countries - and would be treated as importation.

or Abuja - to Airport one - that cost nearly 1B dollars and transport 400 passengers daily!! You see Lagos - Ibandan or Lagos metro would be top priority - but because big cats are in Abuja - they will prioritize anything in Abuja and leave Lagos to rot away.

Lagos - Ibandan - distance of 150km - SGR still under construction since 2006 - and expressway - since I hear 1970s smiley

abj/kad is a section of lagos-kano rail line. Lagos-kano is more than 1300km, so d project was divided into 5 sections.

Precisely - it's huge jungle. If you ask them for car designs - you bet they won't have it - neither will they have any car designer in their payroll - they just have guys who bring in complete knockdowns from China - and guys to assemble it in Nigeria.

You like deceiving yourself. Kenya has been refused extension of its loans because it is struggling to pay what it owns China currently. This is already fuelling fears that the Chinese are preparing to relieve you of your Mombasa port. You are in a debt trap. grin Face it. Your flowers and avocados can not save you.
Ethiopia on the other side has been allowed by China to renegotiate its loans, so they are not afraid of losing anything to the Chinese.

Ethiopia’s renegotiation and rollover
of debt indicates that this BRI project
is unlikely to have a Hanbantota-
esque Chinese takeover
. In contrast,
Kenya’s Mombasa-Nairobi railway
another Chinese-designed and built
SGR which has seen similar concerns
over debt-burdens—but curiously has
not received similar concessions from
China—and has struggled to gain
further funding from China for its
expansion.
Your politicians have sold you down the river.

mobius is still a not a vehicle company to me... grin it was incorporated in 2011 and it's just building a factory in nairobi (according to my findings).. u can prove me wrong by posting pics of mobius production line.

Mobius has only two brands (mobius I and II) mobius sold only 40 vehicles so far. grin u can't compare that with innoson. We even sell our vehicles to far-away Gambia. grin

Innoson also have different brands, he even produce firefighting vehicles with garbage trucks.

You're confusing - extension of SGR rail - new loan that Kenya wanted - and existing loan that Ethiopia asked for renegotiation for loan terms - for a loan already disbursed.

Kenya has not had any problem repaying existing chinese loans and has NOT ASKED for any debt renegotiation.

The negotiation with China is on completion of Phase 2B and 2C - railway from Naivasha to Kisumu city and finally to Malaba(border with Uganda). Kenya wants China to give 50% grant on that - because beyond Nairobi - Kenya do not really need the rail - China want kenya to pay for it - and also put down security - plus for Uganda to sign.

This would be like you finally get to Lagos-Kano - and now you want to do KANO to Niger border..that would mainly benefit Niger(not Nigeria). Obviously Nigeria won't be getting to KANO anytime soon.

We are back to splitting manufacturers by race. IVM doesn't manufacture vechicles - they will not get Certificate of Origin in any country outside Nigeria or Ghana - they are re-badging Chinese cars. Mobius are making sturdy cars for Africa - not importing junks from China.

Mobius last I checked were using KVM - in Thika town - for their manufacture. They have original designers - have hired top guys from top European and US car manufacturers - and are actually manufacturing a car. Re-badging Chinese clones of cars is not something we need to discuss here.
