Hi Graceee. I will break your question into 2 parts for a better explanation. There is 1. The validity of the Visa and 2. The amount of time you can stay in Brazil withing 1 year.

1. The validity of the Visa

To the best of my knowledge, the validity of a Brazilian visa can rage from 1 month to 10 years. Factors determining the validity of the visa ranges from reciprocal agreement between your country and Brazil for example USA and Brazil issue 10 year visas to each other citizens. For most countries, visa are issued for 1 year. You can also be issued a 1 month visa if the visa officer has reasons to suspect the motive of your travel. (Please note that even with all this, the visa officer has the power to modify the validity even with country agreements). This is not common.

2. The amount of time you can stay in Brazil withing 1 year

No matter the validity of your visa, you are not permitted to stay in Brazil for more than 180 days withing 1 year. (90 days and extension for another 90 days while in Brazil). Of course if your visa is valid for 1 months, you can only stay for a month. This case is very rear. The only exception to the 180 day rule is with EU citizen who enter Brazil visa free but cannot stay for more than 90 days in 1 year.

If I were you, I would evaluate the claim I made. I said someone didn't come back to update us. You didn't talk about it. Your last statement negated all your submission.

They did biometrics and were even advised about safety and security measures while in Brazil. But on Sunday, the husband was called from the embasssy and was told they got a mail from Brazil that the wife needs to do medical test. So what's fasle info here. If I could remember vividly, someone alluded to preg tests in the previous pages, may be you or someone else, not sure.

I like to be more optimistic. It is important to note that, the challenges of obtaining a Brazilian visa just like Nigerians applying for any other visa has nothing to do with giving birth in Brasil. Typically, any other country applying for a Brazilian visa is dealt with at the embassy level except Central African Republic, Nigeria, North Korea, Senegal whose visa application is sent to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for approval in Brasilia. I kind of understood why they have to do this when i got to Brasil and met many of my fellow Nigerians.

Birth tourism is not yet a big problem in Brazil. In fact there is no law that states that it is illegal. I was told all kinds of barriers will be awaiting me in my adventure to give my child a better passport. Some people may focus on the negative and challenging part which may sometimes be discouraging. Good things don't come easy. Well... people are traveling to give birth in Brazil everyday. You either seat and focus on the negative thoughts or you rise above the challenges and do like i did.

To obtain Brazil visa is very difficult now, I mean extremely difficult even in Europe as a Nigerian. They refer Nigerian application to their ministry of Internal affair and they will just refuse you without reason why you are being refuse. Nigeria passport is dead when it come to Brazil visa.

You might want to apply for a medical visa. You might be asked to do a pregnancy test, I don't know where you are applying from though.

According to Justwise info above, yes.

ohhh! that so sad, i suspected that as well cos I am fully aware of some countries that have started carrying out pregnancy test as far back as 3yeaars ago at their brazil embassies, but never knew they would start so soon in Nigeria. However,guys here is an eye opener, as an alternative you can consider giving birth in Chile or Argentina (both also in South America as Brazil). As at 29th March 2019(wikipedia), Chilean passport is the 14th strongest in the world and Chile passport is one of the only three passports in the world that is visa free to USA and Canada, the other two are Brunei and South Korea Passports. Chile also offers Citizenship by birth to any child born there. Also Argentina offers citizenship by birth to any child born there and argentina shares same border with Brazil. So guys you can consider those two countries as well as their passports are in the top 20 strongest passports in the world for your child.
