Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

WTF did I just watch? Holy Christ on a bicycle! Lots of abominable stuff happened in this movie, things that would break a faint hearted.

It's been a long time I watched a horror movie. So I tried watching The Nun today wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. 5/10 for me

In Bruges-
A dark, bloody, comedy of errors. There was nothing too sacred to be depicted, including a child with his head blown open (basically anathema in Hollywood and literary arts), the thorough ass whopping of a woman and calling a dwarf 'short arse' right to his face.

7.5/10

"A child with his blown open. . ."?

American Beauty (a rewatch)

Most memorable quote in the film;

"That's right, I was choking the bishop, chafing the carrot, you know, saying "hi" to my monster!"

A Serious Man

I know that this film had some sort of message going or something, but for the life of me, I couldn't get past the fact that the protagonist was a friggin weakling. In fact, I'd say if there is any message this movie tried to pass along, it's a lesson on how not to be your wife's_bitch, cuz the protagonist to all intent and purpose was his wife's_bitch. The meandering plot went nowhere at all.

Really?

Have you been to a Nollywood camp before?
Has any Nollywood actor/actress landed in the hospital because the hazard of playing a character?

Do they take the character to their personal lives that they even stop to responding to their own name?

Has they been any drastic transformation in their physical attributes?

Can they study a new language for the sake of their job?

Have they been a drastic change in accents in stereotypical character?

You think it's all about money?

You cant give what you don't have no matter the amount you are paid.

The most successful Nollywood stars have been acting like they do for more than a decade and they are famous here, so you think you can suddenly turn them into the Hollywood way of acting like a light switch.

So you think they will suddenly switch from a habit that has acquired them fame and fortune at the drop of the hat.

You talk about a studio that will bring out the best in them, so suddenly your brain started working. the studios here have already made them famous and rich, so what are you blabbing about?
Why should they switch to another studio that will risk their health, take so much time and energy from them?

Am sure you won't understand where am going with this.
How many action movies does Nollywood make? Do you think Hollywood romance flicks and dramas land anybody in the hospital?
Has any script or character called for any drastic change in their physical attributes?
I don't know about you but I've seen some actors portray various accents from thick Yoruba accents to Ijaw accents.
Give them a role that requires them to study a new language and see if they won't learn it.
Method acting is very rare, even in Hollywood. Not everybody is Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale. So don't make it sound like there are a lot Hollywood method actors. Method acting is even more popular in Britain than the US.
Are you trying to say that in the whole of Nollywood, there's no one with a smidge of acting talent? This defies even the laws of probability.
You know what's better than fame and fortune? More fame and fortune. We're humans. We can never have enough. Even if they're as successful as you imply in Africa, a bigger pay cheque and audience is enough to motivate the willing.

Perhaps, the Coen's weakest film of those I have seen.

Kaycee and pryme, you guys need to understand, the first thing is the script. Maybe when there's a script that requires Nollywood actors to go 'method', then we might be able to judge better. 93 days which was about Dr. Adadevoh's role in the Ebola scourge (hope I got her name right) cast Bimbo Akintola in the role as the doctor. They don't look alike but effort was made to similarize the two people. If we have more roles that require the actors to undergo a transformation, it might also help. So first the script requirements before anything else.

Thanks. I have downloaded the bolded because of the great reviews I saw online. I will look for the others to downloaded.

Martin reminds me a bit of Tarantino, mostly because of the often totally irreverent nature of their characters' dialogue. No subject is too taboo for them to discuss. It is very unique, albeit jarring

The bolded is one of the top reasons I love Tarantino's movies.

Little

4/10.

Little imagination, little acting, little dry, little boring, little makes you cry for wasting data, little annoyed right now.

Toy story 10/10

Seeing this movies as an adult for the first time I miss not seeing it as a kid, I can only imagine how awestruck I must have been and how inspiring and sophisticating I must have found it.

Such brilliance, hilarious, touching, amazing story, satisfying ending and the voice cast was excellent.

Would tackle the franchise now. grin

You are changing the initial points I raised, I said top Nollywood stars, these set of people think they know it all, you cant teach these old dogs new tricks.

However I agree that we have upcoming actors that can/will match Hollywood, BUT THEY CAN NOT BE THE TOP NOLLYWOOD STARS unless they will have to unlearn what they think they know.

I disagree that we dont have movie scripts that require drastic transformations.

Compare these 2

300 - did you see how the Spartans looked?
now compare that to
Igodo (I dont know if you have seen this movie - its one of the few Nollywood movies liked because was more like a folk tale).

We are not just there yet, for us to get there we have to send people to Hollywood to learn the ropes.

the lion king is a certified hit regardless of the rating because it's a classic, it will gross at least $1 billion.

Do you know how many Nollywood actors endanger their lives when they play those "witchcraft" and 'Ritualist" roles?

Do you even want to know what their eyes see that ends them in "deliverance" sessions?

Seriously, I was pissed. I only finished the film because I was expecting the dude to snap in the end, a man can only take so much, right? I was dead wrong. He not only took it all in the ass like a_bitch, he also liked it.

Sure, let's compare a 2007 Hollywood movie to a 1999 Nollywood movie. That's absolutely fair. You could have, at least, said Gladiator, instead of 300 to provide proper time range.
Now, that aside, what was the budget for both movies? Could the studio or actors afford proper trainers and dietitians? Were the actors given enough time to get in shape?
You see, that it's not just up to the actor's alone. I'm not changing the initial points you raised. I'm just saying those points are null.
