Algeria won this game from the midfield. They simply overran our trio of Iwobi, Etebo and Ndidi from start to finish. Rohr in his usual self was too rigid and slow to tactics change. If were him, in the second half i would have crowded my midfield by switching to 442 or 352 formation but purposely for this game 352 is perfect. At the start of the second half, i would have brought in Ola Aina for Collins. Omerouh, Ekong, Awaziem will be in defense. Musa LWB, Aina RWB, both of them will support Iwobi, Etebo and Ndidi making 5-man midfield. Ighalo and Chukwuese as two front man. At the 70th minute, remove Chukwuese for Osimehen, and 80th minute bring in either simon or onauchu for Musa depending on whether we chasing the game or not. Honestly, it cost nothing to play with a bravery at all times. I detest timid people 11 Likes |

sontoly: Etebo did try to control the game but then the fact that he has played every single minute in this tournament eventually caught up with him. Even Ndidi too. Now I think we should rue the fact that we didn't play our second eleven against Madagascar, even if we lost at least the other players for rest small. |

Its over for Rohr with the SE. An intelligent sports analyst will tell a good Coach from a bad one within a few months of his career. A good coach knows how to select players, read games and make the right changes. But it’s different with Rohr. We need a technical astute coach! Rohr is not it!!!! Akpeyi should never! ever! Smell the Super Eagles Jersey any more, not even the bench! The likes of Ighalo should bid the team farewell, including Mikel, Onachu, Ezenwa, & John Ogu. We need a playmaker! For the moment, Iwobi is incapable. Algeria, right from inception I knew they were favorite for this tournament. I always rooted them with Morroco & Egypt. Nigeria getting this far is a toss of luck. 2 Likes |

It's a shame we couldn't get a midfield controller in the U20 This should have been the perfect chance to fill the holes in the team with the U20 squad but stupid Paul Aigbogun wasted it |

There are a lot of positives moving forward. We have a young team and alot of talented youngsters to be blooded in. We are once again a force to reckon on in African football. We qualified from our group, knocked out the defending champions and made it to the semis but lost against a team who have conceded only 2 goals and rated as the best in the competition so far. Its high time we get it into our skulls that football have evolved rather than believing that we are the best always. Even if the nff sacks Rohr the greatest mistake they will make is entrusting the again in the hands of any of our ex internationals. The nff should get a younger but savvy coach from Europe to continue with the work Rohr hv put on ground. Like I said the future is bright but we shouldn't allow sentiment creep in which will destroy what we have on ground already 1 Like |

I'm gonna take the defeat in good faith...Algeria were obviously the better team from the blast of the whistle.. they had studied us very well and devised a plan to stop us and it worked..Kudos to them.. Our players gave tried but such things happen in football.. you can't win every time . But I think after the AFCON, the following players need to join Mikel in retirement... - Ighalo - Ogu - Akpeyi.. - Ezenwa Musa and Balogun should take a back seat in the team too.. As for Ekong he needs serious competition.. Even Omeruo.. If we are serious about building a better team for the future, then we need to let go of some old players .the Dutch did it and now their football is back on track... we can do it too.. The believe some people on this thread have that we don't have good players is a lie!! We have a lot of good players out there...talented players who are doing well at their clubs..both home and foreign born... they just need to be integrated into the team slowly.. We have limited time to start preparing for 2021 AFCONQ and Qatar 2022 As for Rohr, I can't totally support the calls to sack him now cus I tells can't think of any capable replacement available... the man has tried for put football no doubt but his conservative style is holding this team back...Poor tactical decisions and his inability to make daring changes into the team... If a capable replacement is available he should please go.. Nobody knew his when he was coaching Niger republic back then... the national team has boosted his CV 1 Like |

IMO Jamilu Collins is just another Idowu with a left foot. He tried against Mahrez no doubt. but his inability to drive balls forward was glaring...always passing sideways.. Unfortunately, Awazeim will miss the 3rd place match due to a booking...Aina may just move to RB unless Rohr wanna use Shehu or Simeon there (as a wingback ) 3 Likes |

Joebie: Forget that one. For most his career he has been a midfielder. If that's the case Iwobi should be on the wings since he has played like 30 consecutive matches for his club on the wings. |

Ndidi should be called out for giving away such a cheap foul. What the heck was he thinking? Didn't he see Omeruo in front of him (then again who is to say Omeruo wouldn't have committed a foul in the box?) 2 Likes |

I was expecting Ndidi and etebo to close this game and take it to extra time. Alas, they failed in doing that. The 3 goals we conceded in this tournament from set pieces were all committed by Ndidi. Going forward, we need new midfielders, creative one at that. I think Rohr has done his bit too, we need to try someone else with different ideas and approach towards the game 3 Likes |

First of all, Congratulations to Algeria. It's a well deserved victory. they did it in style and inflicted pain on 180 million people. They edged us out not because they have better players but A BETTER COACH. I can't believe we still have folks who still want Rohr to stay. Rohr staying is more or else being satisfied with Mediocrity. Are you not tired with all this Make shift approach. Deploying personel to wrong positions. I knew it was going to backfire. Awaziem has been solid all through but against weaker sides. I have always said this. Balogun remains our best defender. Rohr axed him without a replacement. He sets up his defense without a ball playing CB. He and Alloy Chose a comic goalkeeper in Akpeyi (don't even know what to say about this guy). Akpeyi will always be Akpeyi... He went and hide himself behind the wall and couldn't jump/fly. Rohr had 3years to assemble a team, yet he gave us this shit. I don't know why many celebrate him? He experimented for 3years with no result. I think we deserve More. As I have always said, we will never see the true potential of this team under Gernot Rohr. Well done guys. We live to fight another day. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Enough of the blame game...! Truth is, Algeria were simply better than us; their players are better. Whether we know it or not, we've a very thin midfield, I have always talked about it, in fact, after this tournament very serious scouting should begin. Our players tried their best, the Algerian midfield was stronger, and I believe this gave them a strong edge. The game was ending; I think that was why was cautious about making more sub's.,think it this way; how sure are you that those sub's. could have made a difference? Though the team were a bit careless towards the end, especially the person who committed that unnecessary foul, this is never the end; they must keep working very hard cos they have a lot to learn to be the best. Finally, though Algeria surprised me, I'm still very proud of this Super Eagles, because they've worked very hard to come this far, they are very young and have a long time to play together and improve, with a couple of quality additions to the team, they will achieve far more success. 6 Likes 2 Shares |
