The team hasn't improved much. You are right on that. But we still got to the SF. That's Rohr's only saving grace.

The 3matches that remain as the highlight of his 3years reign are.
Nigeria VS Cameroon - Uyo where we won by 4-0

Nigeria VS Algeria - Uyo 3-1

Nigeria VS Argentina - Russia 4-2

Thought he was going to build on those amazing football... But alas he took the easiest way out-Conservatism. Obsolete and archaic approach. Where is even the counter attack his team was known for In his early days.

Well, I'm not disappointed.

We see things differently and this is not the first time I'm stating g this...

Awaziem might not be weak but wasn't solid. He was caught out of position few times. Hardly won ariel duels. He was a makeshift and there is not emotional in that. It was Shehu @the world cup.

He has done well to bring stability to the team. But if we must progress we must do so with someone else not Rohr.
He won 2nd balls, was rarely beaten, tried to help the midfield in our own half alot.
I'd have started Aina but how are we to know things wouldn't gel.
Rohr leaves a tad of things to be desired and I still can't shake off my memory of the team during WCQ but I don't need to have divination skills to tell you we'd enter a fairly stormy phase if Rohr's gig is totally disbanded.
I don't know how it'd sound to the NFF paying another foreign [technical] assistant to Rohr, it's not like [worthy] coaches are lying fallow anyway.

Algeria won this game from the midfield. They simply overran our trio of Iwobi, Etebo and Ndidi from start to finish.

Rohr in his usual self was too rigid and slow to tactics change.

If were him, in the second half i would have crowded my midfield by switching to 442 or 352 formation but purposely for this game 352 is perfect.

At the start of the second half, i would have brought in Ola Aina for Collins. Omerouh, Ekong, Awaziem will be in defense. Musa LWB, Aina RWB, both of them will support Iwobi, Etebo and Ndidi making 5-man midfield.

Ighalo and Chukwuese as two front man.

At the 70th minute, remove Chukwuese for Osimehen, and 80th minute bring in either simon or onauchu for Musa depending on whether we chasing the game or not.

Honestly, it cost nothing to play with a bravery at all times.

I detest timid people

With your approach we would have been flogged comprehensively.

The best part of our gam was the midfield.

This game was lost from the wing back positions. They
by passed our midfield and almost similar to what we did to Cameroon. And there was no service to our wingers.

However, wing play is not just about dribbling but the final quality ball. Chukwueze and Musa thier final balls were far from accurate and precise.

The situation was further compounded because Algeria had studied Chukwueze in depth. On the occasion he tried to dribble past or outpace them he was neutralised and caged.

Musa actually using raw pace had more successful runs but very poor end product.

But they started defence with attack and attacking our RB and LB. I knew that Awaziem was always the weakest link. To play the wing back position you need pace, intelligence and technical ability.

Awaziem has no pace although he is intelligent with limited technical ability. Did anybody see Awaziem go 1 on 1 and beat anybody

Collins is very limited technically but l assumed he had pace. He is fast but not fast enough.

All the Algerian players were beating our fullbacks for fun all the time and anytime. I was afraid that Awaziem would get sent off because he was getting overrun all the time. He eventually got a yellow.

This was the first area we lost the game. Our full backs could not connect with our wingers. From the beginning they were under pressure and that caused our CB'S to be jittery how we survived the first half and conceding only one goal was a miracle.

I would have played Simon and Aina playing as wingbacks they have better football intelligence and Simon has pace to burn. Aina may not have blistering pace but he better football intelligence than Collins.

My view the game was lost mainly from our wingbacks positions IMO.

for the first time in a long time I missed a victor moses. I must confess. mahrez was there for the algerians but we had no one today to rise to the occasion.

But i must also commend Ighalo when you consider how mane and co has been missing penalties this afcon. He did tried to get us back but we lacked a match winner which algeria had.

these foreign coaches will not help us in the long run, we just have to tell ourselves the truth and for how long are we going to continue to waste tax payers money paying these oyibos in dollars and still they struggle to achieve what local coaches have achieved in the past. Even local coaches like Eguavoen and Amodu took us to afcon semi-finals. Rohr is unduly over favoured and I doubt he can achieve more with this team

I'm gonna take the defeat in good faith...Algeria were obviously the better team from the blast of the whistle.. they had studied us very well and devised a plan to stop us and it worked..Kudos to them..
Our players gave tried but such things happen in football.. you can't win every time .

But I think after the AFCON, the following players need to join Mikel in retirement...
- Ighalo

- Ogu

- Akpeyi..

- Ezenwa

Musa and Balogun should take a back seat in the team too.. As for Ekong he needs serious competition.. Even Omeruo..

If we are serious about building a better team for the future, then we need to let go of some old players .the Dutch did it and now their football is back on track... we can do it too..
The believe some people on this thread have that we don't have good players is a lie!! We have a lot of good players out there...talented players who are doing well at their clubs..both home and foreign born... they just need to be integrated into the team slowly.. We have limited time to start preparing for 2021 AFCONQ and Qatar 2022

As for Rohr, I can't totally support the calls to sack him now cus I tells can't think of any capable replacement available... the man has tried for put football no doubt but his conservative style is holding this team back...Poor tactical decisions and his inability to make daring changes into the team...
If a capable replacement is available he should please go.. Nobody knew his when he was coaching Niger republic back then... the national team has boosted his CV

Ighalo stays till further notice. We need Osimhen to move to a good clubside so he can continue improving.

This game was won solely by tactics. Caution when taken overboard will only limit. I saw the Algerian players on a number of occasions, showboating, something that Rohr sorely clips. Allow a player full expression, but with a goal in mind. With full expression comes flair, and with flair comes flexibility and creativity. We are too rigid. Rohr's overbearing proclivities towards caution is also behind the hype he sprays on the opposition, nobody goes far with that attitude. If you like, give to Rohr the France national team. There is little Rohr can do to improve, seems like his philosophy has much to do with his personality. I don't hate Rohr, i am only at sympathy with him because he needs the wins more than i do.

Liverpool are prepared to sell Taiwo Awoniyi this summer.

The Liverpool Echo says CSKA Moscow have become the latest team to enquire about Awoniyi.

The 21-year-old is a target for a number of clubs despite having never played a first-team game with the Reds due to work permit issues.

Awoniyi was most recently on a second loan spell at Belgian side Mouscron, where he scored 11 goals and claimed three assists in 16 appearances after joining in January.

CSKA Moscow have been keeping tabs on the Nigerian forward and are willing to pursue a permanent deal.

And Liverpool want £15million for Awoniyi, but are open to another loan move.

We have Onyekuru and Oshimen on the bench plus Kali, I don't think the Algerian bench has anyone close to that except maybe Brahimi.

In defence we have Aina and Balogun on the bench, I am sure Aina would start for Algeria easily. We have a better squad, not better individual players and that's what matters in tournaments

Stop....just stop....please.....do you think they want osimhen and onyekuru....do their players even know them?

Why are you looking at super eagles as if they are Germany.... You think aina will start ahead of youcef atal for them?....

The fact that you don't know their players doesn't make your own suddenly better...let's not jump to quick assumptions abeg

Things we can take away from this AFCON:

1 The Algerians were/are the better team. We underrated them here and i am envious at how much they have improved from 2016 till now. We stand to gain if we learn from them.

2 The Goal keeping department needs serious overhaul. I don't blame the GKs..really I don't. They won't feature if they don't keep getting call-ups. We need to scout for 3 quality keepers because none of our current 3 inspire confidence

3 Rohr tried his best. Our team has not made it to the AFCON in 6 years. We got so far by a mix of ingenuity, grit and luck. Rohr needs a really good tactical assistant (or technical assistant).

4 Our two central midfielders should be applauded for giving a good fight in this match and in the entire tourney. You can't give what you don't have. Neither Ndidi nor Etebo are creative midfielders/playmakers. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that we couldn't create enough chances. Tackling is important but doesn't score goals. Excellent passing and ingenuity does.

5 We need to scout for more consistent strikers. Ighalo is so inconsistent, it can be annoying. Same goes a good creative central midfielder(s).
One wonders the idea behind taking four midfielders to a major tourney without any marshal among them.

6 Mikel should honorably bow out. Knowing Rohr, Mikel would keep getting call-ups if he doesn't retire. Rohr is very conservative and prefers to stick to known players. This can backfire.

7 Osimhen and Onyekuru need to step up. If Rohr kept on benching them for almost the entire duration of the tournament, there must be good reason. Mbappe is in their age grade and has done wonders that belie his age. They should aim for such. Had they been reliable, I am sure Rohr would have no qualms subbing out a Misfiring Ighalo.

8 Ogu should also just retire. If he hardly features in the entire tourney even when we were quite shorthanded, I wonder at his importance to this team. I also wonder at what unique footballing attribute he possesses that keeps earning him invites.

9 Chukwueze is one thing we can take away from this tourney. He is still very young and can improve if he keeps his head down and doesn't let praises get to his head (like nacho, success). If any new club cannot guarantee him first team soccer, he should remain at Villareal and improve.

10 A moniker commented at the inconsistency of our players. This much is true though I would single out Ndidi and Etebo as our only consistent players throughout this AFCON. Our players may need counselling. Consistency is what sets apart ancestors from men from boys in football grin cheesy If you can't be consistent, then you may stagnate your career. You get paid big bucks for showing up at every game, no matter how many games you have to play. They need to groom themselves to be consistent.

11 Our defence isn't as solid as we are made to believe. We conceded in every match right from the second round. I thought Rohr was a good defensive coach? Two or more good defensive additions won't be bad. Balogun should find a new club and bench warmers shouldn't be tolerated.

All in All, we gave our best and fought hard but at the end of the day, the best team won. Up Super Eagles. We live to fight another day

Its good to be respectful.....our so called big name players were absent

Iwobi and ndidi.....xxxxxxx

Bout about must be happy wherever he is

Meanwhile ghanaians and size bansi people have come to troll us

Yes, the better team won, but when was the last time we convincingly dominated any team we've played throughout the tourney?

Rohr sets up his team to play in a way that brings out the best in the opposing team, this happens after he has run around telling everyone how not up there we are.

He should go and had we proceeded to the finals, I'd still not compromise on my earlier stand. He doesn't read games, he's only blessed us with tepid display which is totally disturbing considering the amount of talents at his disposal, he can't improve.

Sometimes, you just need someone who would realize there's nothing much to lose, so let's just take the risk anyway, Rohr isn't that man.

Honestly guys - in as much as we don't have great players and all - I don't think Rohr is getting the best out of this team attacking wise.
I feel there is latent attacking potential that could be unlocked with the players we have. Rohr is too Conservative for me.
I'll give him till 2022 but the way his fanboys are defending him is getting frustrating. My guy is not the new Westerhof and never will be.
Let's see what will change in the next two years.

No blame blame here.

Algeria was better than us.

Accept defeat sir.

Bro this defeat is like death- irreversible and real. One has no option than to accept it nevertheless one can still do a post mortem to find out the reasons for the defeat even if to comfort one's self.

Algeria no doubt wanted it more than us and were the better side.

Honestly, immediately I saw Mahrez standing behind the ball for that freekick, I just knew it was all over. I knew Akpeyi's poor positioning as a gk will come into play.

That FK was hit well but not high into the roof or top corner of the goal. A decent gk would have punched that away with good positioning but unfortunately we were let down by our team's weakest dept all tournament.... The GK dept.
