edi287: those supporting rohr are just doing so because they afraid of local coaches but they seem not to understand that we need to plan for the long term instead of short term results. The Senegal coach is a young and local coach and they are in the finals after al their previous woes with all their fine players. We need to go local as well and give our local coaches enough time to come up with a playing culture. All this jam body and anywhere belle face we dey play to get results will not win us any title abeg 1 Like 1 Share |

komekn:Why are you contradicting yourself? You said we lost the game from our wingbacks because they provided no cover for our Fullbacks FB. How is that different from my proposal of 352, playing a 5-man midfield to provide enough cover for the defense? Did you check their formation at all? They played a 442. Which translates to a 4-man midfield and that explained why they outplayed us in the middle because we played with a 3-man midfield. That is we played a man less. Etebo and Ndidi were completely overworked and by extension our fullbacks too in Awaziem and Collins. How else do you intend to curtail such lapse if not by crowding the midfield to provide a fighting chance for players? Switching to a 352 will give us 3 important advantage. 1. Naturally a 352 formation is a mass-attack, mass-defending formation without all the players particularly running the length and bredth of the field. 2. Your right wing backs and left wing backs will provide excellent support to your defense, midfield and attack at the same time. Aina is perfect for RWB, while either of Musa/Moses is perfect for LWB. 3. The midfield of Etebo and Ndidi will not be overworked and also our attack will have two potent people to disturb their 4-man defense rather than having only Ighalo upfront. Rohr bottled this match last night. He should go, and taking Mikel, Ogu, Akpeyi, Ezenwa with him 2 Likes 1 Share |

AIG07: I don't completely agree with you. I think until we find a better replacement we should still persevere with Rohr. What we don't know is the extent to which his hands were tied when it came too scouting and player selection. There are and continue to be other influences. He is not stupid he knew we had handicaps in midfield and defence. But did we invite enough players to be tested to consider other options, CAPITAL NO. He did the best with what he had albeit with some very stupid mistakes. Knowing fully well the kind of team Algeria is his selection was not the best. IMO. 1 Like |

Danielnino00: When you say talented squad do you mean top quality players❓We had two quality experienced midfielders in Etebo and Ndidi. Iwobi is good but he is not a top quality player hr doesn't have the CONSISTENCY. But the pertinent word used is squad, which implies a good number of top quality players. We simply do not that's the reality. In my opinion they did us proud and went beyond thier limited abilities. 4 Likes |

Rohr has tried for our football but he needs to be dismissed for a younger and more tactically sound and brave coach. This team with its array of very talented, young, promising and exciting players is being underutilized by the coach as far as I'm concerned. Rohr is a good coach but he's too rigid, unintelligent and outdated in his tactical approach. Taking time to praise your opposing team and their players before a game does not always pan out well for the psychology and mentality of your own players. It it causes your players to give unnecessary amount of respect their opponents and it also triggers fear and lack of confidence to the less experienced players of your team. Yes it's a good thing for a coach to be humble and show respect to his opponents but the magnitude at which our dear coach dispenses it to his opponents without measure is a very bad idea. it threatens our jeopardizes any form of morale and confidence that exists in some of your players especially the less inexperienced ones. A team where you have an already jittery Akpeyi. That would surely worsen his situation. But the problem is the new coach would most likely restart the team back to square one just like a newly refurbished laptop LOL. I don't pray for such to happen again. It was disaster 2 Likes |

realpoacher: You are saying what l am in principle but with different diction. Formation are not rigid, they change as the game progresses. If you have a winger who is finding it easy to beat the opposing players 1on 1 and 1 on 2,, that player becomes striker once he gets in the box, for example ronaldo, Zaha, etc. Whatever formation we played 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 in both the quality of wing back or full back is INTRINSICALLY CRUCIAL. Awaziem has intelligence but no pace and very limited technical ability. Collins has pace but not blistering buy no intelligence and technical ability. We are saying the same thing only difference I amusing the term fullback and wingback as being the same thing essentially. |

Tactically the Algerian team were better yesterday. 1.They did their homework well.Caged both Musa and Chukwueze and stopped Ighalo from getting into the box. I expected the coach to instruct his wingers to play through the middle since the Algerians have blocked the wings. 2.Wrong Sub:Musa was very poor today and should've been subbed b4 Chukwueze but the coach left him because he was the captain. Onyekuru for Chukwueze was wrong because Onyekuru is a LW not a RW.Most of his goals for Galatasaray came from the left. 3.Prior to the match the coach told his players not to foul anyone close to the box but they failed as the Algerians got the winner from a foul close to the box. 4.Ighalo is poor aerially and not a 9 for counter attack because he is heavy and lacks pace.He is mainly good inside the box as in more of a poacher as most of his goals have been scored from the box. 5.Immobility of full-backs:J.Collins and Awaziem were solid in defence offered very little in attack. One would have expected that since Musa and Chukwueze were caged that the full-backs will start attacking through the flanks. 6 Likes |

MetalJigsaw: this has always been my major issue with this coach. You are spot on but will many on this forum agree? secondly don't we have principles anymore in determining whether a coach should continue or not. A coach who cannot manage games that are almost ending in a draw loosing in dying minutes. [Argentina and Algeria]. A coach who has now come out to say that his players were thinking about extra time is the reason they lost haba. And finally a coach that has failed to exceed past results of local coaches, we are still debating whether he should go. chai who did this to us. Colonial mentality is our number problem as Nigerians, I just tire 2 Likes |

EEGA: How can you say that Awaziem was solid in defence when within the first 10 minutes he was completely routed. The referee was very generous not have given him a yellow card. The Algerians at a stage were show boating with him. Collins has no football intelligence just a lot more pace than Awaziem. Mahrez used hin for Suya. Both of them were scared to come forward and couldn't link with our wingers. This is where the game was lost. Ekong became jittery and nervous kicking the ball like police to nobody like a league one defender in England. Omeruo was better but he waa getting bullied and nearly conceded a goal if not for a miraculous save by Akpeyi. 1 Like |

MetalJigsaw: You use the term array of top young top quality players implied. Outside of Chukwueze who are you talking about are you comparing them to the players in the NPFL. Or is it in comparison to the top young talents in Europe what's your unit of measurement for top talent. Even Chukwueze l have always said we should be very cautious with him and not put too much expectation on him. He has played one season of professional football that's all. Give him time to develop he has long way to go. Because in this match his blistering pace did not work his skills did not work and his end product and service piece delivery was non existent. The Algerians studied him in depth and completely neutralised him. Now some will say to ask that question means Hate and negative prejudice. No not all you must compare them to too the top young talent in Europe. And add the question from that perspective. So apart from him who are our top talented exciting young players. 1 Like |

It's not his main wing, his main wing is the centreback wing, he play as a makeshift right back, how many centrebacks have the pace to challenge wingers? Even the goals that Algeria scored weren't from his wing, you are just downplaying his ability because he isn't an innit boy komekn: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by realpoacher(m): 8:19am On Jul 15, 2019 |
Going forward, Rohr should be sacked. He has done well no doubt especially in his man management but let the truth be told he has equally been given all the support he needed. Pinnick and the NFF have provided him with atleast 80% support for 3 years which no other coach has enjoyed probably apart from westerhorf. Rohr should go. His timidity is infectious and cancerous. In his stead, i am going to propose 3 candidates that i believe are going to give us the style of play that we all deserve and want. Also they come cheap and within our payroll. I am fortunate to watch almost all the matches of AFCON 2019 and therefore in good stead to make 3 solid suggestions. 1. Mr Nicolas Dupuis (Madagascar/France) A French man and the current coach of Madagascar team. Madagascar were ranked outside 100 coming into this competition yet their coach was able to make them play fearless with an attacking style to make you grin with envy. Even though they eventually bottled it against Tunisia but they showed the Tunisian's no respect. They are fit and extremely Athletic, the coach made them so actually. They score freekicks too. They were also composed for the penalty shootouts against Uganda. Think of what this man did with Madagascar at this tournament and think of what he will do with Nigeria at the World Cup. If it were Rohr incharge of Madagascar at this tournament, he would have told them they were coming to their first tournament and therefore have no chance against anybody. He would have probably played all 11 players behind the ball against Nigeria. Smh They benefits of hiring Nicolas Dupuis are immense. 2. Djamel Belmadi (Algeria/Algeria) He wasn't their coach when we walloped them in Uyo three years ago but he came in after that and improved the team in all aspects. Whereas our coach couldn't do the same for us. Imagine getting jittery against a team you chewed to threads not too long ago. It only shows your deficiency. We can hire Belmadi too though with his current stride with Algeria, he will come abit expensive than Nicolas. 3. Muhamed Magassouba (Mali/Mali) This man used complete rookies and teens at this tournament for Mali yet he played one of the most beautiful, exciting and entertaining football. His squad consisted mainly of Mali's 2013 and 2015 U17 members yet they delivered. It took experience for Ivory Coast to defeat them 1 nil. While Rohr made us believed that Teens cant play African football, this man proved him otherwise. Attack, Attack and more Attack were the only thing Mali knew, they were only outdone by that solitary Ivory Coast goal by Wilfred Zaha. ...... My submission I will pick French man Nicholas Dupuis anyday anytime as he currently fits perfectly into what we seek, Good man management, ambitious, cheap, style of play, and available. ....... Going forward, NFF should stop hiring German coaches as their game play, style are not our way of playing. Our style of football is the fluid, entertaining and attack minded. The Dutch, French and South American football are what we model after, therefore coaches from there are whom we should seek 3 Likes |

Rohr is too conservative. He has a squad that can actually poach at least 3 goals in every match against even the tightest defenses. He doesn't take risks. Prefers to pack bus from when the whistle is blown. If SE played all our matches the way we played when we were a goal down against Cameroon and Algeria, we should win this tournament. 1 Like |

nairalandankrah: I would prefer local but the issue of Egunje and other sharp practices has continued to plague our local coaches ad infinitum. I would not mind the Cameroon combination. Whatever foreign coach we get he must be black. I am sure Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand would take the job. But l think we need to expand the scouting of our players and be more proactive. I don’t know why Ovie, Tega Onomah, Ebere Eze, Dominic Iorfa, Fikayo Tomori, we're not invited. I haven't included Ademola because k haven't spoken to him to know if he interested or heard anything to that effect. There are others you could include there is no harm in trying them out. All Francophone African countries are filled with French youth internationals and players born in France predominantly. I haven't mentioned players in other parts of Europe not because they don't exist but we have overwhelming numbers of Nigerian at all levels of football in the UK. So that's why l haven't mentioned any from other parts if Europe. And I simply don't know them to be honest. But in addition the England is a quality league and conversely will have more quality players. Indeed the core of the SE quality players are playing in England or emanated from England. 1 Like |

komekn: How can you say we should persevere with Rohr? Did you see the gulf in tactical class? Let us keep result aside. We lacked intensity which is down to poor personnel selection due to playing dross and conservative for a long time. I was impressed watching the Algerians from a tactical perspective. How they tightened zones when we were with the ball. Systematically taking out playing chances. Like the repeated cages of Iwobi and Chukwueze. When it was time for us to build from the back, the Algerians came out in large numbers, nullifying any chance for us to build up from the back. Forcing us to result to long balls with no aim. See how they gave Ighalo no breathing space. Nullified us from having good goal attempts. Look at the exploration of spaces with long balls etc. Rohr had a lot of time to get our team firing on all cylinders but we are still a tricycle instead of a high speed race car. We need to select a sound tactical coach, with an expansive offensive strategy who will get our team ticking in a short time. Something Rohr does not have to offer. 3 Likes |
