The Presidency has appealed to those playing politics by capitalising on the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin in Ondo state, to stop it.

In a strong statement issued Monday night by Garba Shehu, the SSA Media, the Buhari government said: “Times of tragedy like these are not the time for politics. It reveals only disrespect for the departed and her family. And we hope that those who stand in positions of influence recognise and understand this”.

Although the statement did not identify those who have been exploiting the tragedy to hit the Buhari administration, in the last 72 hours some critical remarks have been credited to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Wole Soyinka, Pastor Tunde Bakare, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and a host social media commentators, with sympathy for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

On Monday, Obasanjo penned another letter in his series to President Buhari, using the tragedy as anchor and warning that the nation is at the precipice, “dangerously reaching a tipping point where it may no longer be possible to hold danger at bay”.

In the statement issued by the presidency on Monday night, government made a pointed appeal to the critics and appealed for national unity.

“It is incumbent on all leaders across the country to consider their language and its potential consequences. Insecurity is an issue that Nigeria must face together as one nation – united”.

The statement noted public concerns on the unfortunate attack and recalled the concern of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

“The President has already issued a statement expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs Funke Olakunri and followed up with a telephone call.

“The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has in addition, paid a visit to the grieving family in Akure, Ondo State.

“Her death is a tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family”, it said.

Then Nigeria is finished ... If that's all the Asorock urchins could make of the genuine concerns from well meaning Nigerians.
Mr Buhari, Nigeria is older than you. It will still exist long after you have joined your ancestors. Fear God and do good today. Sycophants and jobbers will want the status quo maintained ... But patriots have seen a dangerous pattern and will wish you get off your bums and arrest the runaway security situation asap!

Useless presidency.
Kidnappers have taken over our highway and the government does nothing
about it, preferring to attack critics.

Writing letter about the evil Boko Haram he brought upon us as a nation, when their wings could have been easily clipped.

The presidency and the entire APC are the ones playing politics with human lives. if not, why was Tinubu more concerned about absolving the suspected killers from the crime than condeming the crime

I was surprised that Tinubu was afraid to condemn the crime for reasons best known to him

FROM THE ARCHIVES: CHINUA ACHEBE'S LETTER TO OBASANJO (2004)

My Dear President Obasanjo,

I write this letter with a very heavy heart. For some time now I have watched events in Nigeria with alarm and dismay. I have watched particularly the chaos in my own state of Anambra where a small clique of renegades, openly boasting its connections in high places, seems determined to turn my homeland into a bankrupt and lawless fiefdom. I am appalled by the brazenness of this clique and the silence, if not connivance, of the Presidency.

Forty three years ago, at the first anniversary of Nigeria’s independence I was given the first Nigerian National Trophy for Literature. In 1979, I received two further honors – the Nigerian National Order of Merit and the Order of the Federal Republic – and in 1999 the first National Creativity Award.

I accepted all these honors fully aware that Nigeria was not perfect; but I had a strong belief that we would outgrow our shortcomings under leaders committed to uniting our diverse peoples.

Nigeria’s condition today under your watch is, however, too dangerous for silence. I must register my disappointment and protest by declining to accept the high honor awarded me in the 2004 Honors List.

Yours faithfully,

Chinua Achebe
Annandale-on-Hudson, New York

Where is Obasanjo's reply to the above letter?

............... .......... ......................... .........................

This man below has said it all......
Good to know we still have reasonable youths like this on this forum.
Unlike some dead brain youth all around.
