forgiveness: You cannot get to the semi-final of a competition and chose to change the set-up that has brought you that far. This is basic coaching rudiment. 1 Like |

Icon4s: Na lie. Chelsea won the UEFA Champions league after they changed the tactics to park the bus against Barcelona and Bayern Munich. You can start with the set up but you must have plan B if it doesn't work. That level is beyond the rudiment of coaching. |

Curtisaxel7: Did you watch Mikel's form against Burundi and Madagascar? He has lost touch. Even if you play him in the CM position it will still be a problem. Etebo has been one of our best performing players in the tourney, he has played 90mins of all games. And you get to the semi-final, to play a very tough Algerian side and you bench him for a Mikel who we know has completely lost steam? Who does that? 2 Likes |

Icon4s: Was he even defending well in that game? We needed a RB that has both ability to engage in checking the advancement of the opposing winger and at the same time adventure forward. Awaziem lacked one of these abilities but Aina is equipped with both. Chukwueze was pocketed because no player to support him one the flank for a one two pass or to make him drift away from his marker. Chukwueze was marked out with just one defender. A adventuring forward RB will double it to 2 against one. That would have caused them a lot of problem. Chukwueze supported Awaziem in that game but Awaziem as usual is never adventurous and that his why he relied more one his long balls. 3 Likes |

Icon4s: It takes time to impart the offensive philosophy and we have seen few coaches with inexperience out class the so called experienced ones. As I said before, the philosophy comes first. Most of the experienced coaches who will likely fit the bill for the job, will definitely lag behind when it comes to the philosophy. Remember Guardiola's first season was a disaster. It did not mean the team was going in the right direction. With time and support, our players will soak in the knowledge and mount the wings to fly. |

Glad to see Ebuehi train again. Rohr would still have started Shehu and Awaziem ahead of him had he made it to AFCON. Such a conservative coach we have. Can't wait to have him back in the NT. Aina on the Left, Ebuehi on the Right. No better way to solve the Full Back Equation. Rohr might just not use this formula. One of the reasons I want him out. He is Not progressive! TheGoodJoe: Inexperienced coaches can still do well in a club setting with the right set of players or with a backing to go purchase the right set of players. Talking about taking long for a coache's philosophy to sink, there is no such time in the national team setting. You are in a qualifiers group and then u lose ur first two matches and say ur teams philosophy has not sunk, my friend ur team is on its way out of the qualifiers and so is ur job on its way out of ur hands. Amuneke is not the right man for the Eagles job for now 1 Like |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:01pm On Jul 16, 2019 |
Icon4s: I totally disagree. Mikel was played off position and in the right position, he will use his most prized possessions. Vision and reading. In that position where he was played, he was totally hindered. That is the baffling thing about Rohr that puzzles me. For goodness sake, make positional changes during games. You can make transitions of playing style into games to boost players. Why not move Mikel to a better natural position and see if he does not shine. But Rohr, no, Mr. Rock of Gibraltar will not make the right moves. 3 Likes |

Icon4s: I think it was here someone pointed out a team not qualifying for a tournament could mean the team is working towards something big. We need a long term agenda with an offensive footie pattern being the target. A blip of not qualifying should not be the end of the journey. With lessons learnt and corrections, we can build a formidable side that will wreck havoc to even top teams of the World. That is why we were so satisfied with Rohr’s conservative system because qualifying was the goal, not building a top sound tactical team. 3 Likes 1 Share |

daveP: Etebo has been the most reliable in destroying but what Curtisaxel7 is talking about is cohesive coordinated build up plays. Being a creator of the forward play. Moving Mikel to Central midfield would have giving us a creative balance in build up play which Etebo did not offer to a quality extent. 1 Like |

Curtisaxel7: You have a nice point but I think at the end we have to look at the system of the manager. If we were going for expressive and build up plays, control and sublime passes, you above suggestions can work. However, when Rohr set the team to defend, and break down the oppositions play, the selected players fit the bill. Ighalo will fit the strong forward fighting the defenders and fouling them. Awaziem fits the rough fighting full back. Omeruo and Ekong are harder on the ball than Balogun. Etebo is a more rough tackler than Mikel. If we were set up to dominate the oppositions in play, that is where the suggestions of Balogun, Mikel will come in. Unfortunately, Rohr did not set up the team that way. |

Any feelers on tomorrow's game? Already getting jittery o, hope say we emerge the best loser tomorrow in the loser''s final. Cos those Tunisians are very good and compact o, na dem comet demselves from final with their unfortunate own goal. Also hope our boys are practising penalties too. Tomorrow's losers final is a must win so we can add to our bronze collection. Go Eagles, soar high!!!! I never see formation for the game tomorrow, please drop it like it's hot. 1 Like |
