I have a feeling if that handball was shown from the other angle, shown from the front view, it would have been a penalty

So Algeria won the tourney.

Good for them. They did quite well till the final.

And kudos to their coach, the turnaround of the team almost overnight is quite impressive. Hope Rohr can learn a thing or two from this

They didn't play much because it's a final and they were a goal up already. You have to play safe especially against a top team like Senegal.

They were the most consistent of all the 24teams. They defeated Senegal twice in this tournament. What can be more convincing than that?
You said "dominate from start to finish" & we saw NP such thing as domination in this final
You also said they beat Senegal twice (and whoever they beat in 1990) , what's scintillating in this final now fa

kai undecided

Give credit to whom credit is due. They did it in scintillating fashion. It's not in every tournament a team has to beat a team in the caliber of Senegal two times to win it. Don't try to downplay their success. The last time we won we were not this convincing.

If you all recall the discussion between Bascovanveli and I many months ago, we both discussed the possibility of Ighalo going on to emerge Afcon Top scorer on top of being Qualifiers top scorer and crowning it with an Afcon trophy to give him a shot at APOTY.

Well only a part of our thoughts came through. Ighalo did emerge top scorer back to back...

Bascovanveli, I am sure you remember the discussion.... I have personally had reservations about Iggy and his touch-and-go form.... But I always gave him my support to deliver.

He did struggle in the GWG for years but his latter periods with the team is quite a story to behold. He finished well even though he didn't start well.... And the race of life is for finishers...not starters.

You just have to give it up for Iggy (shown on Rohr's right)..... He retires a hero. And showed that he is farrrrrrrr better than that Overhyped Chris Boy called Niang....

I watched the game from 35th minute. Senegal dominated but were not clinical and did not utilize their midfield.

John Mikel Obi who retired from playing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Thursday has told www.aclsports.com that he expects his “son” Samuel Chukwueze to have a long lasting career with the national team.

Mikel announced his retirement from international football after Nigeria’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament while Chukwueze, one of Nigeria’s hottest young prospects featured in a competitive tournament with the Super Eagles for the first time in Egypt.

Quite a number of youngsters have come and gone during Mikel’s 14-year career with the Super Eagles and the former Chelsea star admits that it is more difficult to predict the success of young players nowadays but he still believes the Villareal prodigy will excel.
Image
“I think Samuel can last long with the team but nowadays; football with kids with money, you never know,” began Mikel to www.aclsports.com

“But I think he’s a good kid, he’s a good boy. He’s very humble, he’s a good kid, everybody likes him in the team and I speak to him quite a lot.[Is this a jab at some guys that we know?]

“They call him my son in the team. He’s a good kid and I think he’ll be able to stay here for a very very long time,” he emphasised.

While reflecting on his final tournament with the Eagles which culminated in a third place finish in Egypt, Mikel says he had no misgivings about how it went, especially as he was not needed on the pitch by the team at some point.

“It is what it is. That’s football. You have to know when to let go, I’ve been here thirteen years, I’ve played every game that I’ve been available for so not playing two or three games is not going to kill me.

“I’ve done it all. I’ve done my part, now the young guys can carry on, it’s just the way it is. They will have somebody who is going to carry on from them too so I’m not upset about it,” a magnanimous Mikel added.

Mikel featured in ninety (90) internationally recognised games for the Super Eagles, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013

Senegal forward did not play like they play in big clubs. They were very disappointing. Poor touches.

I didn't feel Niang (except that shot), Sarr, Diagne, even Keita Balde.

By the way, we should not forget that this Algerian team held Germany (eventual WC winner) to extra time in WC 2014 round of 16. But a dip in form for like 2 years made us underestimate them going into this AFCON.

I rated Morocco highly. Don't know what is wrong with them.

This is a golden generation for Senegal, I suspect they will end up like the golden generation of CIV, where they failed to win AFCON until their golden generation retired (except Toure). But I think this Senegal team will still win an AFCON - maybe 2023.

They still have good young players scattered across Europe.

In fact. majority of the players that played today for both Algeria and Senegal were ex-French junior international. Most of them were born in France. Even Mahrez was born in France (although never played for France at junior level). But most others played for French under-17, under-21 etc like our own Iwobi and Aina played for England for English juinor teams and Ekong for Dutch junior team.
