By the way, we should not forget that this Algerian team held Germany (eventual WC winner) to extra time in WC 2014 round of 16. But a dip in form for like 2 years made us underestimate them going into this AFCON.

I rated Morocco highly. Don't know what is wrong with them.

This is a golden generation for Senegal, I suspect they will end up like the golden generation of CIV, where they failed to win AFCON until their golden generation retired (except Toure). But I think this Senegal team will still win an AFCON - maybe 2023.

They still have good young players scattered across Europe.

In fact. majority of the players that played today for both Algeria and Senegal were ex-French junior international. Most of tehm were born in France. Even Mahrez was born in France (although never played for France at junior level). But most others played for French under-17, under-21 etc like our own Iwobi and Aina played for England for English juinor teams and Ekong for Dutch junior team.

Did you see the celebration in Paris ? It was as if France won the afcon

That Senegalese no 9 is the worst striker I have ever seen. How did that guy get to play football professionally?

He got sold because Club lacked funds. The funny thing is we beat Man City to signing him.
We have first refusal but that imbe Emery is making Xhaka captain instead.

Congrats to the Algerians for a well-deserved trophy. They were truly the best organised team at the AFCON.

By the way, I think the reason why the "golden generations" of Ghana, CIV and Senegal have largely failed to shine in the World cup and AFCON in this century (barring CIV's feat in 2015) is the nature of their midfields. The midfields of these three teams comprises only box-box players and defensive midfielders. None of them had a midfield orchestrator in the mold of a Debruyne, Pirlo, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Mikel, Okocha, Oliseh, Riquelme etc.

Midfield orchestrators/deep-lying playmakers are important especially in really tight games. These kinds of players have the ability to unlock stubborn defenses with one key pass. Most times, when creativity was needed, there was nobody that took the mantle for the aforementioned teams.
