Beware Of Fake "Dentistry Course Or Dentists". by Mikolion87(m): 10:47am On Jul 25, 2019
It has become very imperative to point out to many unsuspecting prospective victims about many irregularities and academic/professional impersonations.

Some people parade themselves as "dentists" whereas they are allied dental or medical professionals who studied such courses as:
- Dental technology
- Dental therapy
- Dental nursing etc etc
Such courses are studied in either universities or schools of Technology e.g is the one in Enugu (School of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu).

They all are important segments of dental health but to parade themselves as dentists or "doctors", is illegal and a show of inferiority complex.

Another Misnomer is the "dentistry" Bsc course offered in ABSU which is a four years course. This is a great deception as these ones are not Doctors, not accredited, and cannot be inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. Nowhere in the world is a Bsc awarded for Dentistry/dental surgery. It's a Surgical specialty (Dental surgery). Anyone opting for it should be aware of the consequences of going in for a fake course. I believe this misnomer will be corrected soon.

The Main Dentistry/Dental Surgery course is a 6-7 years course and involves rigorous Training in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS exams) and Dental surgery (BDS exams), and culminates in the award of the degree of BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery), and subsequent induction into the Medical and Dental council of Nigeria as a medical doctor/dental surgeon. It is only studied in a University and always affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine from where its students are also trained. Be well informed and armed with the right knowledge.

You're welcome. Many people are not well informed about Dental surgery hence the reason for the scamming. This is because there are very few universities offering Dentistry in Nigeria.

@Lalastica.. abeg, many need to be aware of this. Thanks

I am tired of the over-respected term "Medical"

Thanks for the information though

Quite easy Ms. Na dem dey feel the need to show off and assert themselves at every given opportunity. Just look around and be inquisitive, you go definitely see one indicator to show the unsuspecting public that they are healthcare workers. A very common one is hanging of stethoscopes in cars. Lolz.

That being said, they are however learned colleagues. Without them, the core medics would surely hv a hard time. Shout out to the technologists in the house!!!

And you failed to include ur DROPPED OUT colleagues who majorly are the impostors. Do well to include them. Most of them were shown the way out either in part 4 or 5, and so they know quite a lot about DENTISTRY already which makes them parade themselves as DENTISTS. I am a technologist, and a PROUD one at that, never will I parade myself as DENTIST. I saw technologist weeks back on social media pretending to be a dentist but was quick to call him out for that.
