All these things happen because we're in a hellhole called Nigeria.

That is why people who fail out of medical, dental, pharmacy schools and the rest would simply go and open "chemist" and before you know it, they are already hanging stethoscope and even operating fake hospitals and government agencies charged with the responsibility of regulating these professions would do little or nothing about them.

Government should realize that Nigerians are stubbornly dishonest people who claim what they are not just to swindle people of their money not minding the negative consequences of their actions. For that reason, regulatory agencies of government should be empowered and fully reinforced to carry out their duties.

It's unfortunate that most of our politicians are illiterates who don't even know that there's a high correlation between the activities of these quacks and our poor healthcare indices.

So basically a registered university in Nigeria ABSU is scamming students and the Medical board is just looking

This is a huge misinformation, Abia state university uturu (ABSU) to the best of my knowledge doesn't have Dentistry in their course line up... Which faculty will Bsc dentistry fall in? Which body regulates such discipline... Please clarify before giving a false news which is a dent to the image of this noble institution.

It has become very imperative to point out to many unsuspecting prospective victims about many irregularities and academic/professional impersonations.

Some people parade themselves as "dentists" whereas they are allied dental or medical professionals who studied such courses as:
- Dental technology
- Dental therapy
- Dental nursing etc etc
Such courses are studied in either universities or schools of Technology e.g is the one in Enugu (School of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu).

They all are important segments of dental health but to parade themselves as dentists or "doctors", is illegal and a show of inferiority complex.

Another Misnomer is the "dentistry" Bsc course offered in ABSU which is a four years course. This is a great deception as these ones are not Doctors, not accredited, and cannot be inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. Nowhere in the world is a Bsc awarded for Dentistry/dental surgery. It's a Surgical specialty (Dental surgery). Anyone opting for it should be aware of the consequences of going in for a fake course. I believe this misnomer will be corrected soon.

The Main Dentistry/Dental Surgery course is a 6-7 years course and involves rigorous Training in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS exams) and Dental surgery (BDS exams), and culminates in the award of the degree of BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery), and subsequent induction into the Medical and Dental council of Nigeria as a medical doctor/dental surgeon. It is only studied in a University and always affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine from where its students are also trained. Be well informed and armed with the right knowledge.

So which right do you have to declare someone's certificate illegal or null and void? Who the hell are you? And bear it in mind, absu don't offer such thing as dentistry, stop misleading the public. Stop it! Gerrarahie

I received information about two persons offered admission into Bsc dentistry (four years course) at ABSU, and I browsed online. What I saw amazed me. Just Google "Bsc dentistry at ABSU". However, I am of the opinion that, that online post is fake and is a move to financially swindle the uninformed public who may be offered a fake admission to a none existing course. Whichever it is, the public need to be properly guided still.

Lol.. I don't need to have a special right to do that. I just need to have the right information. If it's not Dentistry, it can never be "Dentistry". The course is uniform and unique and there can never be a second class "dentistry". Four years dentistry course is already a give away to its incompetence and fakeness.

In Dentistry, one is first trained in General Medicine and Surgery before narrowing down to the Oral and maxillofacial region of the body. More like, studying Medicine and Specializing at the same time. 7 years is even not enough to complete its full curriculum, let alone four years.

People need to be aware of allowing quacks handle this delicate region of the body. The oral and facial region has spaces which are in communication with the brain.

I just called a number provided on that post after several failed attempts.. The person on the other end claims to be working in ICT of ABSU, and he said there's no such course as BSc Dentistry. It is either he is fake and used the post to swindle money, or it might be an error from their system.

Whichever it is, it is good a thing this is exposed, so that many people won't fall victim of this scam or error.

This is exactly why people need to be enlightened about dentistry.

Dentists are Doctors/Surgeons, hence are in same class as other medical doctors. They are not same with hygienists or therapists and dental technologists.

I had suggested in the past that the number of years be increased to 12 years. So with that, you are miles above 4 years

Lol... The clarification and distinction is very necessary bro. People confuse these two professionals as one. You are probably a dental technologist. Be proud of what you do ☺.
