BascoVanVeli: Someone attributed Finidi George joining Ajax to just National team boost but the player needs to be quality first. We have seen local players with national team boosts who went nowhere. 4 Likes |

Barryseal: To compare odey and lokosa to Finidi and Amokachi is an INSULT. Finidi strolled from the sharks of port harcourt into Ajax first team without trials same as Amokachi into club brugge. Nigeria was dripping with quality back then. We don't have that now. Let's face the facts, our league is dead. 2 Likes |

tbaba1234: Is Ozornwafor not on a positive trajectory? How about Philip Azango at Gent. Jnr Lokosa is doing well at Esperance playing in the Caf finals. Etebor is on to something at Stoke City. For what it's worth, the league have been serviceable. None of the national teams with a make up of NPFL players have been disgraced out of a competition, rather they have delivered Afcon gold, Chan silver and Olympic Bronze. Only God knows what we can achieve if there was real investment in our league. 4 Likes |

tbaba1234: Mechanic football limits quality players from excelling and being seen. You can not ask for gems on poor pitches. So the first step is getting better playing surfaces. Then promoting better creative football. Then you can identify the gems. 4 Likes |

Truidstar: I'm not comparing these players. I hope you don't have comprehension problem. I'm just asking what would have been if Lokosa and Odey scored 17 goals durring Finidi's era when the top scorers in the league had no more than 9goals a season. 2 Likes |

We are going too far by putting Qatar 2022 first in that title. That is not our next event. Every thread we have opened follows a sequence so why break that? We are already in a new dawn with Mikel and Ighalo making way. A new breed arises... A new era is born. And their next assignment is the Afcon 2021 qualifiers and the U-23 Afcon (after the final round qualifiers games coming up soon). After that comes Tokyo 2020 even before Afcon 2021.... So Qatar 2022 should not be first. So I dont agree that the title is okay. It should follow a sequence. "The Super Eagles Thread: The Dawn Of A New Era and Roads to Afcon 2021, Tokyo 2020 & Qatar 2022" Give it sequential focus. That is what I ask. Cc Terzurum5, Orkpekyandega One last thing, I repeat that the U-20 thread went dormant because no one was posting news and updates there. I was caught up in a lot of engagements that took me away for over six months and no one else took up the gauntlet. So why won't it go dormant? The U-17 thread is still relevant because we have an U-17 WC coming up and fortunately I am back now. And I would rather post U-17 news there than here. So whosoever wanna discuss it here can do so but I won't derail and that is why I rather go to that thread. When no one is ready to update a thread, it goes dormant naturally and yes it was the decision of the house to create both the U-20 and U-17 threads... So If it goes dormant, then it is on all of us. I was absent and no one else cared to post news. Chikena. Icon4s: 5 Likes 3 Shares |

Barryseal: Ozornwafor has not even played one season but i believe he will do well. Azango is not doing well at Gent Lokosa? Tunisia? Let us see his development. Etebo is one of the few local players in recent times that has risen but there are far too many failures. How many of these players with AFCON gold are still around? The league should be producing players that can serve for a few years. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Desperate Nigerian coaches want NFF to sack Rohr, says Pinnick President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has revealed that some desperate coaches, who want to take over the Super Eagles’ job, are those engineering some Nigerians to call for the sack of coach Gernot Rohr. Even before the Super Eagles beat Tunisia in the bronze medal match at the just concluded Egypt 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), some Nigerians had begun a campaign for the NFF to do away with Rohr, claiming that the coach had lost ideas on how to improve the nation’s football. Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Pinnick stated that no amount of campaign and blackmail against Rohr would force the NFF to change its stand about him. “Does it really make sense for the NFF to sack Rohr now?” Pinnick asked. “What are his offenses? Some Nigerian coaches who are so desperate to take over the Super Eagles are those engineering people to mount pressure on the NFF to sack the coach. But we won’t give them that chance. We know them, and what they are capable of offering the nation as coaches. “Nobody can push us around again on issues concerning appointment of coaches. We gave some of them the chance to prove themselves in the past but failed woefully.” “Rohr still has existing contract with the NFF and we believe in him. We appointed him in 2016 with the mandate to qualify Nigeria to Russia 2018 World Cup, and he did it. The Super Eagles finished unbeaten from a tough Group B that had Zambia, Cameroun and Algeria. We later extended his contract to 2020 after he qualified the team for the Nations Cup. The fact that the Super Eagles couldn’t win the AFCON title in Egypt is not enough for people to clamour for his sack. So many countries are looking for him (Rohr) as we speak. We should be thinking on how to build the team for future challenges and not how to look for money to pay off the coach and his assistance, and then begin the search for new ones. No, that is not in our agenda. “I want Nigerians to remember where we are coming from. Before Rohr took over, we could not qualify for two editions of the Nations Cup. He qualified us to Russia 2018 with a game in hand and also booked the ticket to Egypt 2019 with a game in hand. And in Egypt, Rohr qualified us to the round of 16 with a game in hand. So, why should we sack him?,” Pinnick queried. 3 Likes 1 Share |

tbaba1234:Most of those guys were not exactly teenagers when they conquered Africa. The likes of Egwuekwe, MBA and Uzoenyi were close to 30 if not more back in 2013. They were basically discovered in late in their careers, yet they added to our Afcon gold collection. If the previous national team coaches had believed in them earlier than Keshi did, who knows what would have been? How is it the players fault that he was discovered late? 1 Like |

Alot of you are missing something here. During their time, did we have all these options abroad? did we have players with dual citizens ready to play for Nigeria? Did we have a lot of Nigerian players playing abroad then? We just had to make use of what we had then which were the guys here in Nigeria and had no other Nigerian player's POOL to compare them with. So it's easy to say they were TOP quality since we had few options to compare them with. Most of the so-called good players all over the world then may likely not be able to make it in this era. People can disagree with me but this is the truth, the world is evolving, more technics, technologies, knowledge, innovations, etc... There was a time being strong, energetic and rough with a lot of speed was what mattered in football, but now, technics and tactics beat the majority of the aforementioned. the competition now is HIGH and REAL!
