Desperate Nigerian coaches want NFF to sack Rohr, says Pinnick

President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has revealed that some desperate coaches, who want to take over the Super Eagles’ job, are those engineering some Nigerians to call for the sack of coach Gernot Rohr.

Even before the Super Eagles beat Tunisia in the bronze medal match at the just concluded Egypt 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), some Nigerians had begun a campaign for the NFF to do away with Rohr, claiming that the coach had lost ideas on how to improve the nation’s football.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Pinnick stated that no amount of campaign and blackmail against Rohr would force the NFF to change its stand about him.

Does it really make sense for the NFF to sack Rohr now?” Pinnick asked. “What are his offenses? Some Nigerian coaches who are so desperate to take over the Super Eagles are those engineering people to mount pressure on the NFF to sack the coach. But we won’t give them that chance. We know them, and what they are capable of offering the nation as coaches. “Nobody can push us around again on issues concerning appointment of coaches. We gave some of them the chance to prove themselves in the past but failed woefully.”

“Rohr still has existing contract with the NFF and we believe in him. We appointed him in 2016 with the mandate to qualify Nigeria to Russia 2018 World Cup, and he did it. The Super Eagles finished unbeaten from a tough Group B that had Zambia, Cameroun and Algeria. We later extended his contract to 2020 after he qualified the team for the Nations Cup. The fact that the Super Eagles couldn’t win the AFCON title in Egypt is not enough for people to clamour for his sack. So many countries are looking for him (Rohr) as we speak. We should be thinking on how to build the team for future challenges and not how to look for money to pay off the coach and his assistance, and then begin the search for new ones. No, that is not in our agenda.

“I want Nigerians to remember where we are coming from. Before Rohr took over, we could not qualify for two editions of the Nations Cup. He qualified us to Russia 2018 with a game in hand and also booked the ticket to Egypt 2019 with a game in hand. And in Egypt, Rohr qualified us to the round of 16 with a game in hand. So, why should we sack him?,” Pinnick queried.
anybody who doesn't know this is new to Naija football

Most of those guys were not exactly teenagers when they conquered Africa. The likes of Egwuekwe, MBA and Uzoenyi were close to 30 if not more back in 2013. They were basically discovered in late in their careers, yet they added to our Afcon gold collection.
If the previous national team coaches had believed in them earlier than Keshi did, who knows what would have been?
How is it the players fault that he was discovered late?
Mba was 25 then, 6 months after he was poor at the confederation cup barely a year after he couldn't make the world cup party and nobody batted an eye lid

Everton doesn't want him yet. With all the club appearances even in the Champions league over the past 3 yrs, I believe he should be more than qualify.

He would probably get loaned again. His handlers are just using it as a way of not letting his value drop.

Everton is about to sign Moise kean from Juve , for 27.5 million. If they needed Onyekuru, he should have been staying cos it's not as if they don't need a Striker.

Chelsea Striker Tammy Abraham Seemingly Open To Representing Nigeria
Published: July 30, 2019
If
Tammy Abraham's Instagram bio is anything to go by, the Chelsea striker is still open to representing the Super Eagles after recently adding a Nigeria flag to his profile.
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is believed to be searching for a new number nine following the retirement of Odion Ighalo after the Africa Cup of Nations and the Chelsea Academy product fits the bill.
Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick had claimed back in 2017 that Abraham had pledged his international future to Nigeria after meeting with the striker and his representatives in London, only for the player to deny that he was switching allegiance to the three-time African champions.
Though Pinnick had claimed that he had a close relationship with Abraham's father, he was unable to persuade the youngster to play for the national team at the 2018 World Cup.
Two years have now passed since that controversial incident and the 21-year-old has not been cap-tied by the Football Association, meaning the Nigerian Federation are still in the race for his services.
The likes of Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Callum Wilson, Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling are ahead of Abraham in Gareth Southgate's pecking order of strikers, but that could change if he has a good start to the season.
The England U21 star has scored an impressive 60 goals in 130 games as a professional.

I pray this falls through

Ex-Nigeria U20 Captain Azeez Firing On All Cylinders, Nets Winner Again For Granada
Out-of-favour Super Eagles midfielder Ramon Azeez displayed his predatory skills in front of goal in Granada"s 1-0 victory over Spanish opponents UD Almeria in their pre-season encounter on Monday evening.

The 26-year-old took advantage of a defensive mishap in the opposition area to score what proved the winner against his former club.

Nine days ago, the former Flying Eagles captain netted the game winning goal for Granada as they claimed a 1-0 win over Championship outfit Reading in Marbella.

Azeez started his professional career with La Unión and was on the books of the club until July 2017 when he joined CD Lugo after ending his association with the club.

Last season, the Future Pro Academy product played 13 league games in total for Granada but failed to find the back of the net in any of those games.

Azeez last pulled on a Super Eagles jersey against Republic of Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in September 2014.

you are right but there is chances of a white english boy erupting from no where with atleast 10 goals in the epl this season or next and if that happens tammy will be forgotten by the english fa.

moreover southgate will prefer starting rashford as a striker instead of tammy. england is blessed with young flank players coming up so i see no reason deploying rashford to the flanks only if kane starts. tammy's best bet in international football is with nigeria. with england he will gain few caps but with nigeria the chances of becoming the teams undisputed number 9 is very high but sentiment aside i don't think he will turn back to play for us so he is good as gone

Of course the whole gambit about work permit is nonsense. Nigeria is in the top 50 FIFA ranking and Onyekuru whose official age is 22 just made the country's Afcon squad on the back of a successful campaign with Galatasaray in Turkey an EU country. In addition to his successful spell in Belgium.

The guy over qualifies for a work permit. His agents are withholding information. I don't think Everton see him as a prospect in their future. Granted his agents are quite brilliant, they know how to play the propaganda game having linked him to PSG and greasing Colin Udoh's palms to announce he was a medical away from signing for Bayern Munich.

At the same time Tega Abrahams collects the number 9 jersey for Chelsea and scores in pre season against Barcelona.

At the tender age of 21, has had three seasons of first team football was the top goal scorer in the championship. Can be described as a consistent continous top class outstanding player.

Probably now worth in the region of £50 million if Chelsea will even accept that.
