Personally, I won't want to serve in the same unit with such a guy (war hero or not).

War is structured to kill lives on the battlefield to save lives at home not to save lives on the battlefield and jeopardise the lives of those at home and the field.

I agree, but the strength of character it took to stand firm in a belief is nothing short of admirable.

Unfortunately, studios won't even toe that path unless for smaller independent production companies.
Truth is that, most people want to see films that are based on existing properties; be it a book, cartoon, another film, comic book etc.
It's very evident from the B.O figures you posted above.
Very few directors are given leeway to produce original films with huge budgets except few like Nolan.
Let's even start by asking the last time an original concept made past 800 million dollars at the B.O.
I believe this is just a season reflecting viewer's taste.
When it'll pass, I can't say.

first off, there is very little actual original stuff out there. several so called original movies are derived from ideas, concepts from older movies, books, etc

a large part of star wars referenced the heros journey [which a lot of movies also reference as a basic template]
large parts of the matrix referenced ghost in the shell. the prime concept, man at war with AI is even older
xmen referenced MLK and Malcolm X

the movie industry is over 100 years old. the print industry 300 years. there is very little 'original' stuff out there

it is what it is. give the audience what they want
the moment the audience does not buy the movie, the series goes into hibernation or death

after solo flopped, all those starwars stories stopped, not so cry cry
same has happened with several dreamworks cartoons. once they do not hit a threshold, that is the end

I would like you to define what the audience wants cos in a case like The Lion King, the title alone is above 800 million dollars.
Meaning Film studios can use anything to bait in film goers, at the end of the day, what matters is the content.
Disney is simply building on the Nostalgia of their renaissance era.
So far, reviews (from critics and audiences) have indicated an average to not so good film.

"But hey, its the Lion King, gotta be good like the original"
Box office doesn't always reflect quality.
So tell me, what does the audience what?

Case in point:
Alice in Wonderland (2010): 1.025 billion, built on the nostalgia of the fantasy novels, but average reviews.
Alice through the looking glass (2016): 299.5 million, probably trying to build on the first film's success and failed miserably.

Now, that doesn't change the fact that there are other factors that might contribute to a film's failure.
But a studio should aim for quality if they want consistent bucks and not nostalgia alone.

Try giving film goers some little credit please. smiley

film goers are film goers. they are not critics. they are watching the movie to have fun and be entertained, not harp on how the original was better. you want pointless movie criticism - go to cinema sins or everything wrong with

even though, thanks to my stacking of movies, my kids have watched most of the classics, they do not need to have done so. you think the world begins and ends with you? there are millions of people out there seeing the lion king for the first time. the fact that you watched it 20 times before and you believe the version you watched is superior does not matter.

so before i watch any movie i must have watched or read all the original source material? why?am i watching the movie to write a thesis or do i want to be entertained?

It's gonna get even worse for the competition next year.

I tell you. Omo the thing just weak me. No competition at all. Even Universal that showed some grit is seemingly weak now. Disney sweeping it all the way.

Definitely Disney's year, they might even get up to 9 movies in top ten, possibly even 10/10. We are not even talking Malificient 2, Star Wars , Frozen 2. The competition doesn't even come close. Only movie that's going to come in between them is gonna be Hobbs and Shaw.

do not bother. even if you find an audio track, it is very unlikely it will be the exact same lenght. you will just waste energy muxing and demuxing . and offsetting.

Fargo 9/10

This movie, God. After watching, I couldn't get it out of my mind and one hour later I was rewatching. The way the makers mix the chaos happening with little mundane things like watching TV, having dinner, it just denotes masterpiece. Little things like a bloody psychopath killer being shocked by a woman on tv breaking the news of her pregnancy to her lover, the coen brothers are worth their onions.

And they actually led people to go digging around Fargo in search of the briefcase, because of the whole true story thing, haha, incredible.
