For months now Allen Onyeama has been shouting himself hoarse that all over the world, gov'ts protect their indigenous airlines against bigger foreign competitors who are more often than not subsidised and supported by their various gov'ts. This is the case with Emirates, which curiously has recently been granted more concessions by the Buhari gov't even against protestations from local operators! So far, the Buhari gov't has ignored the pleas of Allen Onyeama for more federal gov't protection and support for local airlines in the face of unfair competition and lack of reciprocity from bigger foreign airlines operating in Nigeria!

There is something I've been willing to find out in Anambra and I think this is the right time and place to ask my question.
For those guys who currently live in Anambra, do you guys usually see rice products produced in Anambra in the various markets across the state? Lagos state's Lake rice was recently released at designated stores in the state for sale during this upcoming Islam festival, I want to know if Anambra does the same or the rice products are always available all year round or they are only available on paper ( I mean scam ).
Lagos is repackaging Kebbi rice, Anambra is known for long grain rice farming and production in Nigeria, Anambra boasts of four major gaint Mills, with many local milling plants across various rice farming communities in Anambra, Anambra rice are very common in markets both shops, packaged and unpackage. Not Lagos seasonal selling of Lekki rice, especially Christmas and Ramadan periods, Anambra rice always available in the markets from January to December.

Very good to know. I know about the Lagos rice repackaging stuff and I consider that lake rice a scam. I only asked the question because I wanted to know if the same scam was also happening in Anambra and it's good to know that our local rice are always available in the market. What are the names of the local rice brands in case I want to buy one?

Obiano Presents Over N700M Financial Intervention To Catholic And Anglican Mission Schools In Anambra
Anambra State Government has presented a cheque for four hundred and twenty- three million naira to Catholic mission schools, across the State.

Governor Willie Obiano made the presentation withnesed by the Archbishop, Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke at Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha.

The disbursement is for the four hundred and thirty-three Catholic mission schools in the State.

Governor Obiano, who directed all schools that have changed their original names to reverse it immediately, said that the rationale for reaching out to pupils is in line with government’s conviction that the formative years are very significant in their development.

In her speech, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha announced that government is building about one thousand, five hundred dormitories in all the technical schools, out of which the Catholic Church owned schools got two. Responding, Archbishop Okeke, who said that proper education is the best parents can give to their children, applauded the State government for its partnership with the Church which he noted equipped students from the state properly in representing Nigeria in the academic map of the world.

Also speaking, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Chief Patrick Ugbaja said that the move is part of the State Governor’s yearly intervention for the provision of infrastructure, which he had been doing since the handover of schools to the missions.

He explained that the fund is a combined cheque for the 2017 and 2018 Universal Basic Education and Anambra State government intervention fund for them to continue to execute their action plans. The event was attended by Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Primus Odili, Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Hillary Odili-Okeke, Catholic priests, teachers and students, board members of PPSSC, ASUBEB and other education stakeholders among others.
In a similar development, Governor Willie Obiano has presented a cheque for two hundred and ninety-one million, nine hundred and thirty-seven thousand, one hundred and twenty-five naira to the three hundred mission schools owned by the Anglican Communion.

Governor Obiano made the presentation at St Andrews DCC, Nnewi withnesed by the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Archbishop Godwin Okpala.

The Governor, who said that his administration had disbursed over two point-three billion naira since inception, explained that the disbursement was aimed at ensuring that every child in the state acquires western education, adding that his administration will continue to provide assistance to all schools in the state.

Governor Obiano expressed optimism that more support would also be provided to the teachers and pupils in addition to toilet facilities, accommodation, teaching and learning materials for proper upbringing.

While calling for religious harmony and tolerance, Governor Obiano further explained that other denominations did not get such money because they usually run their schools on private status He expressed satisfaction that the initiative has paid off, as morals are now being instilled with academics in schools. Earlier, the state Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, said the initiative had been accepted widely in the state.

Earlier, while recalling the era of decays in the state schools due to negligence, Archbishop Okpala stated that since the inception of APGA administration, Anambra state is well known for education, primarily because of the Governor’s vested interest in the church, affirming that the partnership between the church and the government is paying off credibly

However, am i the only one that thinks they could have done a bit better with the building housing it.....it kinda looks like a family house! I don't know if the problem is with our gov'ts or just a lack of imagination on the part of our local architects!

New Video of Onitsha.

I think something should be done about truck drivers that never maintain their trucks, park it all over the streets and the trucks always emit plumes of dangerous black smoke.

Onitsha is a key city in Nigeria, undoubtedly the biggest Southeast city today. Anambra State Government should please enforce environmental laws to make the place safe for the teeming population of the city.

Mission is the reason Anambra is top class in education in Nigeria. This system of running the schools through mission is something the rest of Nigeria should come to Anambra to understudy

Please stop saying that. Are you aware that the oldest secondary school to berth in Anambra and SE at large is DMGS-Onitsha which is own by Anglican Church. Anglican is equally the first mission to arrive in Anambra via Onitsha, from there they spread to other parts of SE.

Anambra is shared between Catholic and Anglican in almost equal proportion. You need to look up for dictionary meaning of word 'predominantly'

Abeg make una help me laugh oh, these are Peter Obi's achievements according to the midget liar and clown Valentine Obienyem his media aide, after 8 years as governor, during oil boom and good national economy. This is the achievements they are comparing to Obiano, who has virtually transformed Anambra to a frontline state in Nigeria today. I want to leave this here so next time any of the ignorant clowns will come here again to talk nonsense, I can refer them to this. Ndi ara.. grin grin grin

Nwabobo, mopolchi, nzeobi, SLAP44,
a. [s]He bequeathed over 75 Billion Naira to his successor;[/s]

b. completion of all the roads started by his predecessor and construction of massive roads that made Anambra during his time to be regarded as the best in network of roads;

c. return of schools to the Church and provision of over 6 Billion Naira used to rehabilitate the schools, as well as provision of two buses to them, INTERNET connectivity, borehols, sporting equipment, computers and generators to power them (note what he bought generators for and what others are today buying them for), complete turnaround of selected hospitals, including those owned by the Church ; grin grin

d. [s]building of a teaching hospital from the scratch;[/s]

e. two massive secretariat buildings;

f. paying close to 40 billion arrears of pension and gratuities owned in the State since 1999;

g. [s]attraction of fortune 500 companies to Anambra State whose records are open for everybody to see;[/s]

h. development of the permanent site of the Igbariam Campus of the State University with internal roads constructed;

i. erection of over 15 solid building at the College of Agriculture, Mgbakwu;

j. he met a state with no accredited health institution, but by the time he left, he had over 11 health institutions accredited, including two hospitals. He met none and accredited over 11, these things are easily measurable and is the language we expect to hear from governors elsewhere: I met this and left that;

k. [s]built over 30 bridges in different parts of the state and we have the names. Again, structures as these are easily measurable;[/s]

l. attracted the first Federal Government institutions such as Federal Secretariat, Federal High Court, Naval outpost at Odekpe , etc to the State. He also got the federal government to hand over some federal structures like Omor Rice Mill to the State. We are interested to know further attractions since he left and not cooking of falsehoods;

m. built the two business parks at Onitsha;

n. bought official vehicles for the first time for certain categories of government officers such as Permanent Secretaries, Judges, magistrates, etc;

o. bought over 600 patrol vehicles for the police during his tenure, which is yet to be surpassed

p. [s]The Only Governor that has bought Armoured personnel carriers for the Police, including the

ones stationed at the Lodge and Government House today;
[/s]
q. gave 100 Million Naira , buses and security vehicles to all the universities in the State; grin grin

r. improved the power system in Anambra through various efforts including purchase of over 500 transformers ; grin grin

s. Set up Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency and bought equipment for them;

t. built soil testing laboratory in the Ministry of Works;

u. supported local industries through various ways, including building access roads to their facilities. Innoson, Cutix, Dossy, Orange Drugs, Kristoral, Chikason all benefitted. In terms of patronage, bought over 1000 vehicles from Innoson. Introduced INNOSON to the Federal Government, etc;

v. started projects like Agulu Lake Hotel, Onitsha Hotel, NYSC permanent Camp at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Shopping mall at Onitsha , Awka and Nnewi , Three Arms Zone and set aside enough money for their completion. Note that Onitsha Mall was the exception, he fulfilled Government obligation to the project before he left.
