The Imo State Government on Wednesday made good its promise to fully revive the rubber estate at Obitti Community in Ohaji Local Government Area of the state when the committee on Imo Rubber Estates Limited parleyed with landlords and stakeholder’s of the largest rubber estate in the state.

Dr. Ray Opara, Chairman of the committee who led Imo Commissioner of police (CP) his team and other members of the committee to the host communities where hostilities by youths had stalled production activities for years before the intervention of the rubber committee instituted by Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Opara said the committee was on assignment to resuscitate, investigate the environmental and human damage caused by past administration and the operations of the aggrieved youths and landlords who frowned against neglect by past administration.

He said,” Our governor Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has given us the mandate to resolve the long protracted problems in the rubber plantation. The governor brought us together to ensure this investment is resuscitated to the benefit of Obiti people.”

The Chairman who seized the platform to solicited corporation and support of the people assured them that Imo Government will revalidate staff list and add more staffers.

He averred that Gov Ihedioha has a different approach to governance, charging stakeholders and youths to reason among themselves and present the committee with names of their children ready to work for possible employment.

According to him, “Give us your utmost corporation today and we will revalidate the staff list and ensure your children are carried along in the sphere of things in the rubber plantation. Whatever the problem is that has kept that place moribund, will be resolved. We are aware of the agreement you have had before with past government but ours will be different and you will benefit first”

Opara who raised eyebrows over the rate at which rubber trees were being cut down by the people enjoined them to desist from such act because the establishment was for their interest.

The Chairman who was so impressed with the community overwhelming reception during the visit out of his personal purse offered a monetary award in form of scholarships worth N400 thousand to secondary school pupils whose parents are land owners in Obiti community.

He said,” through my foundation, Chibuzor Foundation, the scholarship will be given to pupils who performed excellently particularly those who took first position from JSS1-SSS3 in the coming examination.

The Traditional Ruler of Obiti community, HRH Rze Emmanuel Odunze, in his welcome address commended Governor Ihedioha for remembering his community and for deeming it fit to resuscitate a company that had gone moribund for several years.

He assured the members of the committee that if Obiti Community gets what is due to it, as promised by the government that his people will surely cooperate with government of Gov Ihedioha.

unless there is a professional private firm that would have some stake in running this rubber estates it will never work

That bridge from all indication might have been destroyed by Ihedioha himself. If he could still go ahead to demolish Freedom Square today after series of other destructions it is getting clearer now that many of the damaged Rochas Okorocha's projects was deliberate nefarious destruction. This is the latest destruction of the artificial rocks and waterfalls at Freedom Square.

This monument collapsed, it was not destroyed by Ihedioha. There was no case of bulldozers or any heavy machine or people bringing it down under the orders of the present governor. Don't spread fake news.

Ooo, come on, Sir. A monument that was there throughout the tenure of the former governor just "conveniently" collapsed like that? I'm guessing the rains that fell this year were just too much for it? Please, let's try to be unbiased in our analysis.

By the way, there have been this outcry about Douglas road. Someone I contacted actually told me the situation have so degenerated that you'll be robbed at gunpoint in BROAD DAYLIGHT, and according to her, all this started after the demolishing of the marker by Rochas. It is claimed that the traders there even know the boys perpetuating this evil, but cannot do anything about it.

Let's not build another lawless agbero dynasty in IMO as is being witnessed in some southwest states, please.

I hope Ihedioha will look into the security challenge there and save inhabitants of Owerri. Don't just arrest those boys, try to ensure they r put away for good, please.

My town is presently battling with a devastating flood disaster that has rendered so many homeless, jobless and hopeless. While they are busy playing their politics in Owerri the deputy Governor should know his home is on fire without any help on sight from both State and federal government. This flooding is a biannual occurence and the Government of Okorocha never allowed things to degenerate to this level but now that we have the deputy nobody cares.

You are NOT from Imo state!
Go back to your state! Foreigners like you that helped to ruin Imo State!

You could have let Okorocha know about the so called "Flood" instead of the useless epistles you wasted time writing here.

I am not surprised..I knew it will come to this https://guardian.ng/news/engineers-recommend-demolition-of-okorochas-tunnels-others/amp/

This is the right thing to do. Imo state as a whole is a huge mess and eyesore, Owerri particularly is worse. There's no single infrastructure standing today in Owerri, everywhere is just bad devastated unmotorable roads.

The culvert tunnel is a disaster waiting to happen just like the flyover. Ihedioha is very proactive.

Abogwara come and carry your collapsed culvert tunnel and flyover because Ihedioha is coming with his bulldozer lol

Prof. Viola Onwuliri, a one-time minister of Nigeria, will be sworn in as commissioner in Imo State.

Isn't this rather surprising?

Everyone just want to be relevant.

It seems that people tend to lose their senses when they join politics.

I had some regards for that woman back in the day at FUTO though because I thought she was different.

let me see whether she will perform..if she does then it will erase my thoughts about her accepting this role..rochas also offered her commissioner role in his first tenure but she refused

Ihedioha is like a mad man with cigarette lighter in a gas station. Presently he is putting speed bumps on 8 lane highways buillt by Okorocha to ease movement in order to spoil the road and blame Okorocha. Rumour has it that he also wants to demolish pedestrian bridges built by Okorocha and reduce the highways from 8 back to 4 lanes.

I laughed really hard after reading that line. grin

Given your disposition in this forum, it will be difficult for anyone to take you seriously when you criticize the present governor.

Well, I have always believed that nothing good can come out of Imo PDP.

However, I need Ihedioha to prove me wrong.

Judging by the way that he is picking avoidable fights, I think he buttresses my stance on his party.

Useless old man shut up. Okoroawusa wasted 8yrs for nothing, even though he incurred heavy debt. Ihedioha is here to fix Imo state, though he can't achieve much because of outstanding heavy debt and infrastructural deficit he had to tackle.

I case you didn't know it's obvious you are politically biased and I'm not even sympathetic to PDP. Umahi doing wonders in ebonyi is from CPC right?
The governor has not fully settled in and you are already making conclusions, If you really are interested in what's happening in Imo state follow the governor's hadle on twitter. You should also understand that to have a good system, you need to set up a reliable framework for government to work on, which involves partnerships with professionals and effective legislations which roachas your saviour never did. Instead it was rather random spendings, and gifts and deceptive philanthropy he was doing. Look at what is happening in Imo state now, everyone is complaining of the bad state of the infrastructure.

Ihedioha had a lot of house cleaning to do, so chill niqqer

Using the EFCC to go after the Okorochas, for me, was completely unnecessary. We must learn to see things from a broader perspective. Imo State needs jobs...and the agency will just render them useless.

Besides, the EFCC doesn't return to state monies that were looted in the state. This argument has been on for years.

Given that Rochas and his goons stole the money and invested it in the state, he should have let it ride.

I remember how Sullivan used the EFCC to victimize Chimaroke Nnamani.

What was the result? The antigraft watchdog killed eastern region's biggest telcom Rainbownet and the best private radio station in the region at the time, Cosmo FM. You and I know what such moves usually lead to - more unemployment.

Today, Chimaroke is a senator, and Sullivan has become pollitically irrelevant.

you honestly think it was ihedioha that directed efcc to go against rochas?with the way efcc operates you really believe that?have you forgotten rochas also has very strong oppositions in the top echelon of his own party?

As for the line of investing the state and letting it slide I hope you know there is this thing called cause and effect?like people in future doing much worse in that regards knowing 'nothing go happen' and simply bleed the state to stupor?

Huncle, if you have had eyes for details, you would have spotted that I said Imo PDP. Yes, I did that for a reason. Those guys are terrible people; no apologies. Yes, I know what went down in the Ohakim adminstration in the name of Clean & Green.

Also, I have closely followed Enugu politics since 1999, and I know that the same party did a good job in Enugu until now.

That said, I am not and can never be a fan of Rochas.

I just want a better Imo State.

No, I am not impressed with Ihedioha so far...

I won't write more than this.

The governor is still new.

He is still on vacation...

Let's start asking what he has done after 100 days in office.

That's a standard yardstick in Nigeria and elsewhere in the world.

This time, we have to be particular about the quality of road projects because Rochas left so much to be desired in that area.

You deserve a little exposure. First of all there is not a single proven evidence that Okorocha looted but rather a media jingle singing it to your head. Ohakim and Udenwa were also Governors but couldn't develop Imo as much as Okorocha and today they own chains of properties and investments in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos, South Africa, USA, France and Dubai with little or nothing in Imo State. If you visit Okohia(Ohakim's town), Amaifeke(Udenwa's town) and Ogboko(Okorocha's town) you will notice that only Okorocha has investments in his hometown including 2 Rochas foundation Colleges and he is the only one that actually built modern infrastructure in his hometown. Before Okorocha became Governor there was one Rochas foundation at Ogboko. Also when you move to Owerri you will discover that only Okorocha has his family members investing and doing business in Owerri even after his exit as Governor. Udenwa's family is in Abuja while Ohakim's have been doing Abuja, France, Lagos and South Africa. Another fact is that Okorocha owned the highest number of valued real estate in Owerri before his emergence as Governor in 2011 which includes 2 Hotels, 3 banks along Wetheral road and a lot more. Based on these facts you can tell who loves the State most and is a patriot

What's wrong with Nigerians?
Why can't one lawyer or judge buy a mower to weed the surrounding?
Do they expect the governor to always do that for them?
What is wrong with our people?!

You missed a little detail, the court building is yet to be occupied by the judiciary, the building is still under the state government authority so a judge buying a mover is totally out of place because the judge don't even have access to the building.

The Governor haulted the move from the old high court to this site for reasons best known to him but even at that he should have maintained the infrastructure until when ready. The building and electronics might be covertly vandalized in order to blame his predecessor.
