Obasanjo is a man of Culture, of Peace, of Humility, of Perseverance, of Courage, of Love, of Excellence, of Worship and of high moral Intelligence.. He is already a Righteous Spirit of God Almighty.. You touch him pere, you touch another Anobi ISA, Jesus Christ. He is just a wiseman bringing Understanding to the 59 year old Oba.
Hear the voice of The Supreme Spirit.

Yes, OBJ has to do that, he is a subject to the king and as such must accord obeisance just like all other subjects do.

There is no big deal there, i just like the Yorubas because they value their tradition.

then that means this stupid stunt of revolution by sowore was useless after all because in revolution you don't just beat elders and leaders who are wicked and evil oppressors you kill them with regards to age, position or influence
if things don't change right now I pity the state of this country in the next 50yrs

Just because your ancestors was forced to be kicking their elders instead of waking them properly from bed doesn't mean this current generation of unfruitful land should continuing slapping your fathers..

No wonder Ekweremadu's disgraced means nothing to you people . Putting tradition into practice

Sigh... everybody has their own traditions, and as long as leaders and the population behave themselves, all is well. About Ekweremadu's beating, in past times in Europe, leaders were killed if they went too far, traditions and bowing aside. In many places, including Yoruba, English, or Igbo land, there is a healthy respect for authority, and there is also space for dressing-down or removing somebody who exceeds or abuses their authority.

Even Igbos (I'm Anioma BTW), with all the pride of being republican/egalitarian/decentralized (as in no paramount chief) had/have hierarchies based on age, family, personal achievements, gender - though it must be agreed that social mobility in Igbo land is the highest in any culture I'm aware of, which makes it hard for hierarchies to become tyrannical.

Nonetheless every society (Igbo included) has its social system of complex interactions and a system of checks and balances, including respect of constituted authority (until that authority exceeded its bounds). You see a different set of checks and balances and ways to remove tyrants in Yoruba (Oba, Bashorun, Oyo Mesi), in America (president, senate & reps, judiciary), in the UK (mnarch, Lords & Commons, and Judiciary), and among the Igbo (lineage headships, influential age groups, titled people, first daughters, and secret societies)

So seeing an octogenarian two-time president and former General of a country's army (ironically relatively modern imports to Nigeria by the British Empire), bowing before constituted authority (vested in a person 30 years younger) illustrates how strongly we hold our own traditions, in spite of the modern influences.

This is not to say we should blindly do whatever we are told, but to understand the reasons for certain traditions, appreciate and accept different people's traditions, and review/edit them as appropriate.

Culture is the total way of life. Culture is the customary beliefs, social norms, and materials traits of a RACIAL,Religious or social group. The word culture is derived from a French term which in turn derives from the Latin "COLERE".I think Obasanjo will become King some day.
