Just because your ancestors was forced to be kicking their elders instead of waking them properly from bed doesn't mean this current generation of unfruitful land should continuing slapping your fathers..

No wonder Ekweremadu's disgraced means nothing to you people . Putting tradition into practice

I’m only saying don’t blindly follow something just because it’s called tradition. Many, many traditions have been discarded because they made no sense. It should never be ok for a frail old man to go to the trouble and risk of prostrating to a young man especially when it is probably based on subjugation perpetrated by the young man’s ancestors.

Stop condemning others people believes.. Its so wrong.

Just because I see going to church as a waste of time does not warrant me to stop friends and family from attending.

Every tribe, clan and set of People on the surface of the earth have their own traditions and norms which is unique to them , and usually developed over a long period of time.

Yorubas just like Japanese are taught that humility and respect are of utmost importance in maintaining peace and order within a society.

Showing respect to elders or traditional institutions like the oba is not a bad thing because it is needed to maintain peace and harmony amongst the Yorubas

It also worth noting that such respect does not reduce the intellectual capacity of the person showing the respect.

Showing respect also does not mean those institutions cannot be called into question under modern laws (constitution) when necessary.

It is mostly symbolic of our culture just like the Japanese.

He is already a Righteous Spirit of God Almighty.. You touch him pere, you touch another Anobi ISA, Jesus Christ. He is just a wiseman bringing Understanding to the 59 year old Oba.

Well said, but don’t u agree that traditions that make no sense should be discarded or at least modified? The elderly run a risk of breaking a bone or collapsing in the process of prostration. We should also not pretend we don’t know how a traditional practice likely started and take that into account in determining wether it should be continued or modified

It do not agree that it has to do with the Yorubas or their traditional values. After all there are very many arrogant Yoruba people out there who cannot prostrate before any man. If that was the case, young men could not have removed the cap of the late Bola Ige in a function. Obasanjo simply tells us all the importance of humility. It is a deep lesson for all to learn irrespective of age or tribe.

He was not forced to visit the king. He went on his on and showed example to all. Traditional values cut across tribes.

Not all old men can do what Obasanjo has done, and nobody would fault them. Even the queen of England receives bows and curtesies from her subjects. It is their tradition, and they're not changing it anytime soon despite all the social advancement in their society.

Obasanjo may be old, but is definitely not frail at the moment. He is still going strong. Many of his age mates would never attempt going to the palace, talkmore of prostrating. You're using the one rule applies to all in this situation, but rather should have assessed individual circumstances.
A king's father can never visit the palace, because he wouldn't want to prostrate to his son. Rather than that, he would stay in the confines of home, and will never be seen with his son in public at any function. So also will I not expect to see a frail elder in the palace
Personally, I believe Obasanjo is just a show off. He doesn't even use a walking stick and is still very agile at his age. Some of his mates or even younger are bedridden and housebound now, but see him still jumping around like a man in his 60s.

I don't know whose ancestors can be comparable to that of Jesus(Anobi Isa) and the three wisemen who came from the far East to prostrate and give Jesus Gifts..
OBJ is training that 59 year old, Oba, a Heavenly Lesson in Knowledge and Understanding.
Those who have eyes and ears, let them see and understand what the Spirit is saying.
