Things I picked out from today's game
1. I think the formation was spot on ( the formation I saw was 4312) with guen and willock playing left and right midfield respectively and xhaka as a deep lying playmaker while ceballos behind d strikers. I feel from first half the formation tried but the personnel were wrong. A ceballos in willock or guen position and a torreira in xhaka position would have been the best. We created loads of chances with such formation and limited LFC front 3 influence and turned them to a cross and nod team, which our back was really ready for. We missed a torreira who can screen defensive line( with tackles and interceptions) and quickly launch an attack

2. The two upfront ought to be pepe and lacazette not auba. The two can take on defenders , harry defenders and force error. Starting auba, to me, was a big mistake.

3. Pepe is really a winger we need. it is nice seeing and having a winger who can beat his man and also take an outside 18 shot. I won't blame him for missing that goal cos he's left footed and the ball was on his right. From all his clips I've watched, he rarely uses his right which I feel he needs to work on. So cos of that I won't blame him for missing with his right, even messi and salah weren't so good with their right legs at that age.
Auba misses too many chances for an elite striker, and mostly against big teams.

4. Luiz is to blame for the 2nd goal, it was so foolish committing such a pk like that, but I won't blame him for the third cos he's on a yellow card, so been one man down at that stage isn't worth it. Monreal should have brought salah down for a yellow but he didn't. Those are the kind of tactical fouls we need.

5. Emery should tone down on his incessant passing from the back. Haba! Even man city doing that doesn't do that all occasions. I've seen ederson punt the ball straight to kdb in midfield. Also, we're so slow passing from the back thereby allowing our opponents time to regroup for more pressing. Compared to man city who are faster in doing it, we were laboured and predictable passing from the back.

6. We've really stopped the pressing we normally do to our opponents which aided our 22game unbeaten run last season. This season we hardly press and I feel that is affecting our midfield dominance.

All in all, we need to be positive and let's try to beat all this small teams. At least, top4 is d goal here and not title challenge.

true, a 3-1 loss at anfield won't affect confidence going into Tottenham game like a 5-0 or 6-1 loss. That's was why I was one of those saying we need to be pragmatic at anfield. Under Wenger, we were forming "attacking sides" against big teams yet receiving cricket scores. I said it here earlier, if a whole guardiola can be conservative last season at anfield with all their technical players, who are we not to be. We really missed laca and torreira in that game which I feel, and I guess if those 2 had started, it will really be an end to end game, with them having all the possession and attacks but we having most of the clear cut chances and counters. All in all, we move forward to Tottenham.
