If the NUGA and the ministries of sports and education do their job properly finding athletes for some of these sports won't be difficult. Intervarsity games are important for a reason. We can all see what HiFL is doing for our football and we know it's possible for other sports.
Secondary schools try with interhouse sports, but how is their record keeping? Do we have scholarships and bursaries for student athletes? What are sport facilities like in post secondary schools? Are we prepared to review our academic curricula to make it more flexible? How understanding are our lecturers and professors? Will they (within reason) accommodate our student athletes? Will athletic scholarship recipients be selected on merit?
What about our law enforcement and military? Do they not know how to swim (if they don't we should be very concerned)? I remember reading about a Kenyan medal winner who is also a police officer. The military organizes in-house competitions, are they not able to spare a representative or two?
The truth is we are not going to go very far if we don't make some changes; you cannot give what you do not have.

Sometimes, wen I watch all dis American high school movies,I always envy dem,dey take sport very serious dere,its not always abt book all d tym,can't count hw many times my were invited for football match with oda schools, but no,we were always serving some form of punishment and not involving ourselves in anything sport is always part of d punishment

Schools need to do better. In my school it was taken seriously for the most part. Some people broke rules, punished juniors, etc. during that time, but I think that most students were able to show up if they wanted to. Girls were not really interested but at least they had things like skipping rope Sometimes they'd even take roll call, ask all of us to run 2 laps, etc. Interhouse sports was very important. They announce the winners in our old students group every year

I remember going for basketball tournaments, football matches.. School even used to give us N100 allowance then. We'd use it to buy suya before we come back I'm lazy about sports now but my school gave me a solid foundation and I'll always appreciate that.

Where I did my first degree it was also taken seriously. Student athletes were often accommodated by lecturers, TAs and lab coordinators. Not that they wouldn't get the necessary work done, they'd just work around their schedules.

I think one of our biggest problems is rigidity. We must learn to be flexible and accept change
