As a value investor in the parent company, I would want management to do their best in recovering a good slice of the market share.

exactly my tot also that is why i referred to it as flagship. though i wasnt aware of the PF angle u just brought in.

i pose the scenario / question to oga bigjay so he cld look at those scenario versus his gut feeling. Also i wanted to be sure i am not being blindsided

thanks appr8, so oga bigjay we go to the next one since HF is out of it

where lies the next outsize movement oin NSE?

Is his investment in HF performing optimally? Honeywell is a conglomerate, are there other businesses in the group that can do better with more cash?
Will the competition and choke hold of Crown and FM in the flourmillig space be suffocating?

...good thinking !!
I am inclined to answer to the affirmative(a yes) with both question.

These sort of critical thought process are requisites that can quite plausibly give rise to an asset sale, spun off and /or divestiture.
An aquisation by one of the 2 chief competitors u mentioned(FM and OLAM) or another entity can not also by ruled out.

Maybe not for monetary reasons(in view of the counter-position by @ northeastern), but because HF may likely never match the competition. So struggling to breakthrough with margins might make them concede to a sale.
...especially when u consider that:

1) HF has a relatively low market share.

2) The current spate of contracting margins in the flour business space have marjorly(over 80% shift) been the result of lower volumes(even with increasing prices) ...for which HF has had the most hit.

3) Unknown(unquoted coys) brands are gaining more momentum given the pursuit for lower price points brought about by a decreasing average purchasing power.
Price points are mainly driven by the purchasing power of the lower class. ...with the middle class almost wiped out and the upper class seeking for cost management relief.

4) The current board and management of HF does'nt appear to have the technical-know-how that's required to match the competition in that business segment.

So who knows !! @ Sir otudeku may decide to leave that space for good. maybe. ...just maybe.

On the flip side, the recent wave of expansion drive by the coy is one of the factors I think might cast doubt on the possibility of touring that line. ...particularly in the short term.

Only TIME will tell !!

What is the reason behind the melt down that is currently going on on the nse?

Most of the companies are not doing badly in terms of results.

Its clear that among the tier 1 banks, FBN(and by extension FBNH) is the least efficient. From the scrutiny on this thread recently, I have derived the relationship between that and the current management. The only time I attended their AGM, I observed a one-man-centric atmosphere that lends credence to all that.

However, I also like to look at the potentials of companies. We see the potentials in FBNH from their top lines. No doubt, FBNH bottom line is being negatively impacted by NPL issues. I believe the inherent potential in FBNH is the reason the market prices it at a PE that is at a premium to UBA/ACCESS.

Can we try to derive the actual material potential in FBNH, maybe using their efficiency ratios(ROAA, ROAE) before their NPL crisis?

On Access, its important to note that there are yet more benefits/synergies to be unlocked from this merger. I suggest we scrutinize the stock further to stay steps ahead of the market.

If we wait till results surface, we will be acting like every other person. But if we dig deeper and are still not certain the direction we should go, then we can wait for results for more clarity.

1st off, let me appreciate u for the show of understanding and humility with accepting my advise.
It shows u are a mature fellow !!
On this day, u have gained my respect. ...and I will gladly be ur pal with sharing common goals.

Now on UACN, I trust u read my several analysis on the stock(inherent value in view) and why I believe its an asset of high driven value potential. ...which the planned unbundling exercise has only aided to.
With what I already know of that stock(analytical commutations), I will gladly load so much more(as price drops) and sleep very well !!
But all the same, thanks for ur concern.

Cheers.
I love the UACN stuff. But my problem with it is that I cannot place a particular price to the unbundling of a thing. It's so hard to place a value, more so that there is no monetary consideration. Given the current state of the market wherein most stocks are hugely undervalued, more confusion is created as we cannot determine the rate at which the end product of the unbundling will be "undervalued" by the market. That is why I prefer not to do more than just watch and see.

It is not sustainable
We are gradually getting there.
For example, how many Nigerian governors today are not graduates?

it's sustainability is relative.

What this ruling will afford those without certificates but with money or willpower is far reaching except we acknowledge this as a rare exception.

I know the question regarding the governors is rhetoric but with proper assessment, one begins to ponder if these educated governors really are educated. There is really no difference between someone that buys a certificate and one that doesn't have the certificate when it comes to knowledge or competence display in most cases.

I also believe in hope. So we are getting there but we need to remove as much clogs from the wheel.
