None that we know of. Cobb, Marshal, Ross parent stock eggs are shipped in directly from the core producers like aviagen, Cobbvantress etc. You know how the big guys love to dominate the market with their unique breeds unlike the AA+ that’s all over the place. EMMAACHILE: |

Turks:Is it really worth it to start hatchery? Just trying to figure out how a new hatchery can easily sell out 100,000 or more DOCs weekly. That's not a small capital to start with. |
Re: ... by Turks: 2:37pm On Sep 02, 2019 |
They can sell out 200,000 DOCs easily. First, they start out with outgrowers scheme to show off their strains. This is how they break into the broiler market. Pistotita: |
Re: ... by Nobody: 3:36pm On Sep 02, 2019 |
Turks: Exactly the method I was discussing with a friend all through last week. In my own opinion, poultry outgrower scheme is quite easier to start and manage than vegetables. With good financing, right technical know how, it's a very good business. But the challenge of outgrowers scheme is making sure one buys the birds when they are matured. So, it means finding market of 50,000 - 200,000 birds or more every week. What methods vendors or big farms use in selling 100 tons and above birds in Nigeria? Is it an easy ride? Or a difficult one? 1 Like |

Turks:Turks, i learnt from a seminar dat an organic way to solve dis is , boiling egg shell in water and dem giving dem to drink.what do you think |
Re: ... by Turks: 4:12am On Sep 03, 2019 |
This isn’t true. You best bet is giving calcium supplements. This doesnt go against the organic rule. Bentila: |
Re: ... by Turks: 4:20am On Sep 03, 2019 |
Most of them have companies that fall over each other buying off them seeing as they offer dirt cheap prices. They can also afford to sell on credit based on an understanding. Another major factor to consider is the fact that they produce in bulk; this way, profit margin is a lot higher and remember, they have cooling vans and trucks so they can afford to haul merchandise throughout Nigeria and sometimes, outside the borders of Nigeria if need be. What I’m trying to say is this, it’s piece of cake for them. The demand for chicken in Nigeria is staggering and can never be satisfied. Pistotita: |

Turks: Of course, the power of adequate financial resources is just high. Anyone willing to sell to malls and big grocery stores should know the thumb rule. Payment 2 - 3 weeks after delivery. That's not a problem. Even big fast food and eateries do same. But selling to those caterers should be "cash and carry". Those ones can owe till thy kingdom come. lol. I am just surprised that we haul chickens to neighboring countries when frozen chickens are imported in large quantity. Confusion....lol. To gain a reasonable market share of this business, the competitive edge is to produce different quality strains/breeds of broilers. Yeah. I am kinda interested in free range broilers for pro organic. There are some strains that are tough. But they are all slow growers. Lol. When you allow them run here and there, they just don't get "reckless" weight like those ones in cages and deep litters. Also, they feed well on pastures. I'm so interested in this area. I think I should get ready to launch a mini hatchery. It's a very nice business if one knows the technical areas. And also knows the importing and licensing aspects of the parents. I'm working on this areas. I know big boys aren't interested in the slow growers, so, it's fine...I gat a way to it. And who knows, those fast growers can come in later. But from the look of the situation, Ross and Cobbs are the way forward for 4 to 10 weeks broiler production. One needs to look into it very well before leaping. 1 Like |

Our private label concentrate from Germany has arrived. This is for 2000kg feed. This will be mixed with some probotics and enzymes in order to avoid drugs as much as possible. Preparing to raise for last part of the year for at least 200-350 broilers. For the first time, I will be aiming to raise without antibiotics. |

EMMAACHILE:I guess you are growing them for 7 -10 weeks. That's like saying you want each to get to around 4kg to 6kg, or more. Though, I don't know the content of your conc, but looks like you are aiming at more than 6kg chickens. And how weeks do you intend raising them? And what is the estimated weight of feed per bird? How is the market at your end? Selling live? Or are you processing them? Like how much per bird? |
Re: ... by Nobody: 9:05pm On Sep 22, 2019 |
Pistotita:Target duration: 6-9 weeks Target weight: 3-4kg Feed to be consumed: 5.5-8kg Fcr: 1.6 to 2 Purpose :Sell some in dressed weight/frozen and keep some for family consumption. We want to test the market if possible with free antibiotic broilers. |
