Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr, captain Ahmed Musa and a representative of the Nigerian media Christian Okpara participated in the voting for The Best FIFA Football Awards main prize - Men's Player. The voting breakdown published by FIFA showed that Musa picked Lionel Messi, who eventually won the award, as the top player in the world, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah. Rohr, who also has a French passport, gave his first vote to PSG striker Kylian Mbappé, his second went to Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk while Real Madrid's Eden Hazard placed third on his list. Nigeria's media representative, Christian Okpara chose Sadio Mane to win the award, while Cristiano Ronaldo was ranked behind Virgil van Dijk. For the Women's Player Award, Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby picked Megan Rapinoe, Henry Amandine and Ertz Julie in that order, while ex-captain Desire Oparanozie ranked Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Sam Kerr first, second and third respectively. The media representative, Okpara opted for Megan Rapinoe, Wendie Renard and Alex Morgan. Megan Rapinoe (Reign FC) won the award ahead of Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride) and Lucy Bronze (Olympique Lyonnais). |

Age might be part of the reason why coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr isn’t keen on inviting players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to his squad for games, Owngoalnigeria.com reports. Rohr who has called more players from the NPFL to the senior national team of Nigeria more than any coach since 2013 hint at age as part of the reason why he isn’t keen on inviting them any further. The coach said he is focused on inviting young players who are going to be useful to the future of the team and sadly he hasn’t seen the one that has caught his attention in the NPFL lately. ” The idea is to get young players who can last the team in the next few years and that is why we are interested in the youth teams from the U17 to the U23. We don’t have them much in the NPFL, hopefully that will change next season “, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com. He went further to say he won’t hesitate to call up any player who he feels can contribute to the team if he finds one in the NPFL when the season gets underway. ” Not possible to ignore a good player. We will call anyone we see that can help us improve. The season is yet to start as soon as we find a good player we will call the player like we did in the past with local players to push for a spot”, Rohr stated. |

Coach of the Nigeria U23 and CHAN Eagles team Imama Amapakabo has taken a swipe at players playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after his team 1-4 loss away to Togo in the CHAN Qualifiers. Imama watched from the bench as his team fail to build on the early goal they scored in the team to lose 1-4 and the coach has now suggested that the players found it hard to interpret or understand his tactics and formation. In an interview monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com on Brila FM, the former Enugu Rangers coach said the problem goes beyond the players as most coaches in the NPFL also don’t know how to apply tactics and formations in games. ‘It is a difficult thing for Nigerian players; based in the Country, to interpret tactics and formation, with due respect even some of the Coaches in the league don’t understand tactics and formation, so how do you give what you don’t have,’ he told Brila FM in an interview. The coach who also doubles as the assistant coach of the Super Eagles is however confident that his ward can overturn the 1-4 result suffered in the first leg in the second leg tie in Nigeria next month. |

ChrisKels:North Africans generally hate France because of what they did to their fathers (Chibanis) you know that situation where a father keeps saying bad things about someone continuously around a toddler? They grow up harboring same hatred in their hearts. The French government has for years refused to compensate them for the works they did after they migrated in their hundreds in the 60s and 70s during the French labor shortage |

Yes and although Macron did acknowledge France's wrongs against the Algerians in an address last year where he supposedly dropped "an apology", it doesn't suddenly erase the deep seated hate the Algerians based in France have for the French. You can imagine what a France vs Algeria match would look like. Lol... #Bloody Triniti: 1 Like |

Well Chris... I suppose your question has been answered. Even though Algerians live in France, their general hatred for the French remains. They live in peace in France though. And yes generally, they would put Algeria first like Ismael Bennacer and Mahrez did. But the likes of Zidane and Benzema played for France and recently, Algerian born Nabil Fekir chose France and played at the world cup. When Algeria won the Afcon you needed to see how the French-Algerians/Algerians based in France celebrated. They littered the streets of France. It was a sight to behold. But no one celebrated more than the Algerians back home shaa... Mehn the crowd was much. Part of the reason they celebrated is pride. France had recently won the FIFA World cup so when Algeria won the African World cup aka the Afcon title... They now had something they could also hang unto if any French say, "Playing for Algeria is a waste. What will you win?" So the battles of the late 50s and early 60s with the French is the core reason and it has also extended into a thing of pride for them. Algerians do not feel intimidatrd at all. They are a very proud people. ChrisKels: 2 Likes 1 Share |

Icon4s: The screen shots give an insight into the historical deep seated bitterness and never ending hidden hatred towards France by Algerians. From that bloody civil war the fought to gain independence from France in 1962. The younger generation may not feel so bitter but it still lingers. Don't forget Zz Zidane is of Algerian origin.

Gernot Rohr: My squad against Brazil ready Nigerians rooting for Chelsea’s duo of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori to don the Super Eagles colours would have to wait a little longer, according to Coach Gernot Rohr. Though enthusiastic about the prospect of adding the duo to the Super Eagles, the German said it is a long process before the players can make the expected switch since they had already featured for England. He cited the fact that Abraham and Tomori have played with the English youth teams would make it difficult to process their eligibility for the Super Eagles. He used Torino’s Ola Aina as an example of how difficult it was to change nationality. “The two players (Abraham and Tomori) have already played with England and there is a long process to follow before they can feature for Nigeria,” Rohr said in a chat with NationSport. He added: “It took NFF one year before we could get Ola Aina to play for us.” Meanwhile, Rohr hinted that he has already submitted the Super Eagles team list for next month’s International friendly between Nigeria and Brazil to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The Super Eagles will face the five-time world champions on October 13 at the National Stadium in Singapore. The thee-time African champions, Nigeria begin their qualifying campaign for the 2021 AFCON on November 11 against Benin Republic at the southern Nigerian town of Benin City. Sierra Leone and Lesotho are the other teams in their qualifying group. Source: Today.ng |
