Kennydoc: I think you misunderstood the OP. Those things you mentioned: satisfaction, pleasure, fulfilment etc, are part of the value (categorized under intangible value). As regards cars, someone may be earning #1-2m per month and still decide not to get a car because he doesn't need it — maybe his job doesn't require him moving about or he's in a place where the public transportation system is very comfortable and easy. |

GeoAfrikana:Look at it this way. You said you use a Google pixel right? I don't know which particular model you use but I can bet that the pixel you use cost nothing less than 150k. I use a phone of 60k and I can never spend more than 80k on a phone. Now, me seeing you spend more than 150k on a phone is the same thing you see on someone who spend about 600k on a phone. So what am saying is thst all is justified as long as you have the money. |

There’s nowhere in the world that close to $2,000 is easy money. It doesn’t matter where you are. I just think the phone is not a big deal. It’s certainly overpriced. That’s what my comment meant. Not that the money to buy it is not a big deal. Hangulsaram: |

studentofTruth: Very good! If then 600k phone can give someone intangible value, why is the OP making it seem like those who buy such are irrational? Some people buy iPhone 11 cos of the camera. To them, the pleasure of taking super amazing pictures with the phone justified the cost of it cos to them, the cost isn't a big deal. |

cococandy:You can not compare making the bolded in America with Nigeria, over there ur one month salary (i mean average salary if not the minimum wage) is enough to get it unlike in Nigeria, where even a full staff banker have to cough out almost two month salary to do so , how much more ordinary worker that depends on the new minimum wage of 30k a month. It will take his 2 year salary to do so. So don’t even try to compare both Biko. 2 Likes |

CAPSLOCKED: I feel OP's question is being misunderstood. a 4K phone wouldn't have 4g, most likely wouldn't have camera, Bluetooth, Xender, good security etc Now let's compare Xiaomi redmi note 7 which goes for around 45K or so to the present iPhone 11 and there's barely anything that you can do with the IP11 that you can't do with the Note 7. of course one can nitpick one or two unimportant things that the IP11 can do that the Redmi can't but I would be certain such things aren't being used by overwhelming majority of IP11 users. many of the users of iPhones even in its heydays basically use it to call, text, snap and watch movies. they barely use it for anything else and are ignorant of the capabilities of the phone they're holding in short bringing in 4k phone to the argument is a sign of having misunderstood OP 1 Like |

Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by cococandy(f): 4:26pm On Sep 29, 2019 |
Hangulsaram: I’m not comparing. I’m just saying it’s not easy money. Living expenses also aren’t the same in these countries. Monthly house payment for a four bedroom family house is about the same as $2,000 on average. Many places cost more. Some cost a little less. How many Nigerians are paying monthly rent or mortgage of 600k to 1 million. Every month? Yet that’s what some of us pay here. So, yes it might be easy to make that in month, but it just goes out as easily in expenses. To have it as free spending money frivolous things like an iPhone is not easy. 4 Likes |

GeoAfrikana: Sir I really doff my hat for your kind of reasoning. Honestly, if everyone (rich and poor) reasoned in the same way as you do, the world would have been a far far better place. Its your kind of reasoning and life philosophy that makes people like Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, etc give a large proportion of their earnings to charities in underdeveloped countries in Africa and the rest of the world. However, the average Nigerian & African mentality thinks that enjoyment of life is all about being loud, flaunting what you have to oppress others & never about uplifting the less privileged. Keep it up, sir! |

muffyt05: Their irrational spending can build a nation or wipe out poverty from probably some states in Nigeria Check out their luxury houses, yatch, cars, expensive arts and decor, you go bow They do these things because; they can afford it and not because it’s necessary I met a guy once who bought iPhone 6 and blackberry Porsche as at the time it was released, two of the most expensive publicly sold phones as at then, the guy’s statement was, he always loved gadgets, and now he thanks God he could afford to go for the best... the guy was/is making cool money, owns a Nigerian restaurant abroad and some other businesses When better money touch your hand rationalities would fly out the window |

Insane . Those making them don’t even use them .americans and other developed countries who uses them pay monthly from their earnings some get deal for as low as 11usd a month which makes it easier for them to own it after payment spanned for few years. Here in Naija people pay cash to own these so call phones and mostly use them for irrelevant stuffs like their Netflix IG Facebook and other social network rather than using it for more productivity stuffs they rather share and slay all day on those platforms 1 Like |

My dear, there are many things the 600k phone can do that your 100k phone can't do. Anything that makes one happy, the person should go for it. What shall it profit a man to make enough money and not spend it on himself. |

anjorin4: Bros...you spent your 1 month salary on top of a phone I tell you...that is nowhere near financial wisdom! I have been an entrepreneur for 7 years now, worked in paid employment for about 6 years, my highest salary in paid employment was N325,000; as an entrepreneur, I have bought 2 cars, land, started building my house, sent my children to school AND to date, the most expensive phone I ever bought was a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 at the cost of N85,000 in 2013. The note is even spoilt now. I can't wrap my head around the fact that you would spend your 1 month salary of N100k on a phone, no matter how powerful, when there are so many responsibilities ahead of you in life that would need money. 1 Like |

GeoAfrikana: If an ordinary Nigeria can think this way, I believe there will little to no kidnappers, ritualist, robbers, yahoo yahoo guys, corrupt politicians and civil servants in this country. Because most of these people are moved to steal, loot and embezzled money that they don't actually need. Imagine someone stealing to acquire 46 exotic cars and houses. Imagine a person stealing to acquire jewelries that worth billions of dollars, while her community lies in slums of poverty. Mostly, the major cause of depression. When we learn to live simple, live becomes simple. 2 Likes |
