hopefulLandlord: The op should go to gsm arena and see the specs of both phones side by side. He can take it a step further by going to mega plaza and checking out the phone by himself. If I wanted to compare a product , I would certainly not come to nairaland. I would go to forums or blogs with actual techies. If that was too hard I would check out reviews like Linus tech tips. The truth of the matter is the op should face the reality he does not have IPhone money and he will thus never really appreciate the value of an iPhone 11. The numbers should be all the reason . Why are iPhones constantly outselling google flagships? |

ornicus:maybe the nairalanders that are using the phone can say something? we're yet to hear a good answer from anyone. for the records, I have no horse in this race this is the issue though, most of the so-called "advantages" techies would bring up would be unimportant to the average iphone11 user. there was a time I wanted to decide what to get between iPad 3 and the latest galaxy tab at the time and one of the argument for the iPad was that it boots some milliseconds faster than the tablet. you'd agree with me that this argument while it's probably true isn't a deal-breaker for the galaxy tab and I don't think I'd lose sleep over the milliseconds I have to wait for the Tab to boot up compared to iPad overwhelming majority of iPhone users I know just use the phone to make calls, send messages, snap pictures for social media. things I suspect OP's phone would do just as good The truth of the matter is the op should face the reality he does not have IPhone money and he will thus never really appreciate the value of an iPhone 11.I find this condescending to the OP and a lot of assumption on your side even if it might be true it doesn't counter his question at all The numbers should be all the reason. Why are iPhones constantly outselling google flagships?Something selling more doesn't mean it's better than less selling ones. there are a lot of factors that can make similar/inferior product sell more than its counterparts that are unrelated to their capabilities. |

olumide4christ:I have no responsibilities, no siblings, no girlfriend, and the only responsibility I have is my Mom. Infact I have been saving since last year April 12 after NYSC and I don't spend past 20k in a month, I stay in a very remote place at Ogun State.... So you should have the idea of how much I have in my bank, spending 100k on a phone is nothing to me Like I told you, I'm a Gamer, after work the only thing I do is Play Game on Console or on my phone if there is no light, I don't drink and I don't fornicate. All I do with my free time is Play PUBG. Life is not all about struggling.... I have more than 1.5million in my account and by the end of this year, I'm sure getting to 2M. Next year I'll still save hard, so me enjoying my Gaming phone ain't a bad thing, it's really helpful for me in my journey, sometimes instead of wasting time chasing some pedalstal like my colleague, I'm here Gaming. |

hopefulLandlord:You are right but with my nature of Job, there is no time. I work 6 days (7hours) and 2 days off, I work with a FMCG company, I would have invested in my Mom's business but Mom stopped working last December. The only business I know is fish business which more like Family business, I won't have time to monitor it. Last year my Ex I tried to help her start up a small business, commited like 100k to it but the lady thought she was smart and took the money and she changed after, even broke up with me. she doesn't know what I was really doing, I gave her a notion I was working at a Fast Food. I believe sometimes it's better to just save, anything can happen and when life happens, one will surely have time and there will be resources to rely on, for now it's better for me to just keep saving, plan my month, don't spend past my budget, take care the love of my life (my mother), once a while spoil myself with nice stuffs (good clothes and shoes). Honestly this Country is Messed up. |

GeoAfrikana: You can purchase a ₦150,000 and still carry out your charity work. That's possible when you have the funds to spare, you buy the best money can buy and you don't feel the need to rationalize and overthink it. Bottom line is that money makes it easier to do such. |

9tailskid: You don't get the point bro. A #150k laptop is within my budget but beyond my need. In American slang, when you're made to buy a product that you don't need they say you've been "ripped off". How does a #600k phone make your life better? How does it improve your life? |
Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by hustlelegit(m): 7:47am On Sep 30, 2019 |
I don't see y there should be any justification of me spending 600k on a phone. I can if I have the strength to afford it,if i can't I can go for the less expensive one. Na my money, if I buy am i buy am Noni I owe nobody an explanation. Or do you think the rich will care....i can only see the poor ranting and ranting always. U get money u no live better life, u dey find rational justification upandan. People wey buy wristwatch worth 30m nko, shebi it will tell the same time as that of 2500, same as cars also. U get money u spend am na problem, u get money u no spend am na problem, u get money u stingy to ur self, u no get money na problem again. Nigeria Chai I fear Una ooo. |

GeoAfrikana: Guy u just said 150k is within ur budget but there are low budget laptops that has the same specs as ur 150k budget laptop right? Do you know Mark Zuckerberg T-shirt costs around $300(108k) to $400(144k)? So my question for you is why will mark go for a more expensive shirt when a 10$ shirt can perform the same function the shirt of 300$ is performing since the shirts are plain blue. What value does a $300 shirt adds to Mark's life. |
Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by GeoAfrikana(m): 8:01am On Sep 30, 2019 |
hustlelegit: These questions are for Mark to answer not me. I don't pay $50 for one shirt let alone $300. But you, how can a #600k phone improve your life? |
Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by 9tailskid: 8:15am On Sep 30, 2019 |
GeoAfrikana: I think the American phrase "ripped off" is better suited to when you've been tricked into buying something that's either fraught with faults or costs more than it's actually worth. Just like buying an old Color television for the price of a 4K just because you're ignorant. You keep saying a ₦600,000 phone like it's the benchmark. It's not. For some people a phone of ₦50,000 or less is even overkill for them. I legit know people who balk at the idea of buying something just because they're constantly fighting a war of "values and rationalizing". It's all about perspective and how much you've got... It may not add value to your life but then again who's asking? |
Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by GeoAfrikana(m): 8:28am On Sep 30, 2019 |
9tailskid: As I mentioned in a comment at the beginning of this thread, it's not about the money. It's about paying for what doesn't make your life better. Even if it's #10 biscuit. It would still be unwise to buy it when you don't need it. Sometimes, I go to an eatery and order for just one piece of meat even when I can comfortably afford ten pieces. Why? Because I don't see any extra benefit in a second piece of meat. |
Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by hustlelegit(m): 9:11am On Sep 30, 2019 |
GeoAfrikana:Whether it improves my life or not is nothing to concern yourself about. Since I can afford a 600k phone that simply means there is an improvement In my life. So me buying a 600k phone doesn't mean a Shit to no-one and I gat nothing to say to no one. |
Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by GeoAfrikana(m): 9:16am On Sep 30, 2019 |
hustlelegit: Lol. The fact that you can afford it is enough justification for you to buy it. Do you know what happens when people do things just because they're able to do it? |
Re: How Can You Rationally Justify Spending N600,00 On A Phone? by ZesusHVWritter(m): 9:49am On Sep 30, 2019 |
GeoAfrikana: Let me try to break it down for you. Life is a sequence of priorities and alternatives. Different people with different priorities. Rational thinking to you might be absurd reasoning to another. What is really important in the area of phone buying is budgeting>reasons for buying. Your financial earnings is a major factor when budgeting for a phone. If I buy a phone of 600k now, it might not be rational to you, because to you earning such figure and spending it on a phone is irrational. To me. I bought the phone because my budget allows me to spend 600k on a phone once every 7 years, or 95k every year. So you know, there are people who spend more than 600k on phone every 7 years. Take for instance someone who buys an itel device 15k. To him/her that is a good way to spend on a phone. In less than 2 months he spends another 35k on another itel phone because the first itel was poor all round. In 3 months he goes for an infinix device of 45k, because the previous itel was poor in battery, charging and display. In 4 months he dumps his infinix for Samsung of 150k because the infinix was just another regrettable buy due to its outdated components and poor assembly. So let's calculate how much this person spent on a device due to poor choices and lack of budget management. 15+35+45+150=245k in a year. Rationally that is wasteful to me. But that same person if he sees my receipt of buying a device for 600k just like you, he would see an irrational individual, but he spends more in a single year, than I would in two years. So difference between us is Budgeting. There is no general rationality, or human rationality when it comes to phone buying. There is only income>buget>choice. |
