Honestly, you have really tried for me. It shows the kind of person you are. Someone like you will always get help even from where you are not expecting it. I think I will consider the 2 options you have suggested. I guess I should ask architect to sketch out how the penthouse_like roof will be so that it does not disfigured the house. Also if the cost is negligible, I will put it on 3D just to be sure of how it would be on the house. Then I will still go ahead to do bitumen and felt as suggested. I kuku have an engineer introduced to me by my cousin but it was later I realized that the man is ill experienced engineer. I guess he is only used to bungalow. Once am convinced that it won't disfigure the house then I will go ahead. I will go to site today and snap the picture of how it is currently and send it here. Thanks for your advice and I really appreciate it.

Yes, snap the picture of that part of your house, where the Tank is currently seating, there are good people here who can help you sketch something that will beautify the place.
I did one of mine, myself, after seeing what was done elsewhere, it was not part of the original Arch drawing l got in the early stages. grin grin

Dont thank me o, l benefitted from here and l am determined to help others benefit, wherever and whenever l can offer FREE help.
One day, you will also remember to help others.

See, there are tons of knowledge hidden in the earlier pages of these thread.
Almost all questions anyone may have regarding to building has been answered but it requires patience to read through (some smart people have bookmarked all the important pages for themselves grin ) because there are also fights, arguments, insults and stuffs like that in-between, when disagreements occur. grin
You just have to filter it.
More power to your elbow.

Did you say Polystrene is cheaper?

The quote l got nearly doubled what l spent on casting in-situ.
or may be the price has reduced drastically in the last three years?

Make l go price am, l might need it around next year

That's correct sir. If Location is Lagos, there is a company around Sangotedo axis that sells from N15,000 a piece(A piece is 3 meters i.e N5,000/m) depending on sizes, and labour shouldn't cost you more than N1,500/m

HOuse, please what could be the reason for low water pressure for taps within a house. The water Tank is on a slab on the roof of the duplex. all external taps have very good pressure. i dont want to use a pressure pump.

This is very obvious; not enough gravity. To harvest the required gravity for a good water pressure inside, the water tank should be a minimum of one meter above the levelling blockwork AFTER the lintel. It is possible your water tank is almost practically sitting at the same level as your water heater or shower. You may only experience good pressure if your water tank is full; when half tank, little pressure. This is the classical disadvantage of on roof water tank construction. It needs careful planning and thought. It happens almost all the time with such roof tank adoption. External taps and downstairs kitchen should experience good pressure though. If your downstairs kitchen is not experiencing good pressure as well, look at the plumbing work. Smaller pipework produce better pressure.

For a simple solution, you may need to raise the height of your tank by two or three courses of blocks on the slab and then place the tank on the top of the blocks. You can only adopt this solution if you have the headroom to do so.

thank you so much for this. i will try to raise the tank with some blocks. the house was designed with a slant roof and the slab was placed after 3 coaches. external taps have perfect pressure but kitchen also experiences poor pressure.

Never knew this!
I got a quote some years back when l wanted to do a roof of my building and the quote was not that cheap at all (l was looking to reduce overall weight of my build) so l just jettisoned the idea. We had a very serious dicussion on it some years back, on this thread.

very soon, I will look into it once more.
I will appreciate if you have the name of the company and can share it with us here.
Thanks for the information.

Is it a good idea to use blocks, considering the weight of the Full-Tank that will be placed on it?
Why not just do small lengths of three feet high concrete beams that the tank will sit on, and then put something flat (like Hard Wood Planks) on it, if you dont want to slab/deck it with concrete?

Like @diordaves said, it has to do with Pressure, size of pipes used.
I have heard Plumbers say If you run the Pipe from the Tank, downstairs first and then run everything (all supply pipes) from there, Upwards, it will equalise/improve the Pressure of upper floors.

Also, there are some "pressure pipes" (if that si what Plumbers call it) that allows air to enter each discharge pipe taking water to each flat from the tank.
The principle as l undersrand it is that as the water reduces in the tank, it takes more effort to suck the water out. If air is not sucked-in (for closed tanks) to replace the water being sucked out, the pressure will fall rapidly. The air-pipes serves to reduce the inside pressure of the tank so it can easily give-up its water to the upper flats especially (increase the pressure).
I have it done when l had same problem and it improved the pressure for the upper flats. Give it a try, if you dont have it already.

This is a wrong approach!

Just tell him to share his drawing here so that professionals and others who can help him, can see it.
If he sends it to your own box, how will others have access to it and advice him, say as Home Owners who have just gone through the same process?
Note: I am not accusing you of anything. I am focused on the sharing of drawing only.

He is not looking for another Contractor, he just wants advice on Pricing, Items included and Quantity

@Chingymas:
It is difficult to offer any advice/suggestions without knowing the parameters of your build.

For example, length of Cables can be affected by the dimensions of your house, even by the shape or how you intend to run the wiring (Conduit vs. Surface). Number of Toilets in the building, where your Overhead Tank is placed, size of Kitchens, presence of Showers, outlet for washing machines, location and number of Septic Tanks, etc, can affect your plumbing needs

This is why your Drawing would help others to give you valuable opinion, aside letting you know how much some items are going for in the market and how many of such you might need, within some measure of tolerance.

You can (if you want), share your drawings here, while removing any sensitive personal information on it.
Just the bare bones.
A current picture of your build that cannot show where it is located, might also come in handy.
You can also share the current Invoice you were given by your workmen.

Cheers.

I plan to roof a single storey building (5-bedroom ensuite) and need rough idea of the total cost using steptile aluminium sheet.

I will also want to know if parapet (cast in-situ and not the precast type) is necessary other than for aesthetic - the advantages/disadvantages. Cost idea for that too will also be appreciated.

Cost for both roofing and parapet should be all encompassing...wood, nail, sheets, etc.
Thanks.

If you are around South East and needed tiles of any kind, or at a loss on design of tiles you may need, then look no further than Obilinks (aka writeobi) at Ogidi Building Material market.

Trailing his updates here on nairaland having realised he's based in the East, I kept tab of his updates, his comments etc, then engaged him on whatsapp on couple of chats. Quite satisfied of his approach, during home visit, I arrive his office anonymously and made further enquiries on tiles, and prices. Surprisingly his qoute on whatsapp remained same even as I already have the market price of selected tiles, which also remained same and slightly better with his qoute.

Having satisfied myself on that angle of trust, I left as I came, in disguise telling him that I need to do further research on prices. He simply said 'if they're same please come back to patronise me'. He availed me of some hints to avoid being supplied of incomplete or broken tiles at less price as I left.

Fast forward a month later, I reached him again through whatsapp to enquire about price of different tiles first so as to remain in disguise. Then requested that he sent more samples which he obliged. From his new samples I made my choices and he calculated the cost based on my quantity. I dere to say that his demeanour through both my physical encounter and online were very cordial, respectful, and diligent, which provided me the basis to trust him the more even above my cousins to the point that when the cash for purchases which includes other materials were withdrawn, I directed that he be given the whole cash so as to help us procure other materials not related to tiles.

Very impressed to say that the cash remained with him till the following day (cos it's already late to complete purchases) when my cousins arrived to behold he has done other purchases, arranged transport, and loaded all the tiles. Because I gave my cousins his office address and also directed them to leave such huge amount of money in his custody overnight they thought I knew him too well. But they were shocked and very worried about the money when I told them I didn't know the guy from Adam only online through Nairaland.

Note: I am not advocating that you intentionally leave huge sums in the custody of someone you barely knew especially when there's no proof, or insurance in the event of fire, robbery, or snake in the office during the period.

Back to the issue. My cousins confessed that their mouths were wide agape when they arrived Onitsha the following day to realise that not only did they not hear a story about the money as they feared *(Or even prayed for: so they can blame me offcourse)* but that Obilinks has completed purchase of other materials, secured transportation to our village, and loaded all the tiles and other building materials he helped us purchase ready for them to go.

Remaining cash balance of N52K and all purchasing receipts were given them and behold, it was only them that gave me stories of unforseen expenditure of police this, police that, feeding this, and transport that. Finally they returned N21K (Lol! Didn't I know that?).

All these transactions took place without revealing to Obilinks that i have been to his office. Due to whatsapp he realised I wasn't based in Nigeria yet his prices didn't change neither did he buy other things off market price. Very unsual for Onitsha trader.

Anyway, Obilinks, I repeat from my experience can be adjudged as one of the honest and reputable guys here in nairaland to whom one can confidently transact with even anonymously, yet get the best of services.

Please Obi, just keep up the kind of services you gave me, and surely the sky would be your limit.

Ladies and gentlemen if you are in the South East or environs, I recommend Obilinks Tiles. He can be reached through his link below
 https://www.nairaland.com/3311960/how-properly-tile-build.
Contact No; +234 803 2733229; Whatsapp; +234 908 5556202

I took time to explain this encounter cos we often say here that there are dearth of good people in Nigeria. But my experience with Obilinks surely confounds such assertions. Surely we still have trusted traders, engineers, and artisans in building construction, and this guy Obilinks (aka nairaland writeobi) is one of them I submit.

You can, what is essential is for it to have dimensions, so that distances can be estimated.

The building drawing will also give "spatial context" to the structural drawing..

If you can, some people put a WATERMARK on their drawings so that it does not get "lifted' wholesale. undecided

You are welcome
