Emefiele, Obiano, Others Unveil Coscharis’ N12bn Rice Mill editorOctober 3, 2019 3:38 Pm By Obinna Chima The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele; Governor of Anambra, Mr. Willie Obiano; his Kebbi State counterpart, Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mustapha Shehuri, were among the dignitaries that unveiled Coscharis Farms’ N12 billion ultra-modern rice processing mill. In an address he delivered at the rice processing mill located in Igbariam, Anambra State yesterday, Emefiele reiterated the bank’s commitment to partner with the private sector to facilitate the development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector. According to Emefiele, the fact that Coscharis Farms Limited was able to commission the rice mill, was an attestation to the fact that the objectives of the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari towards diversifying the Nigerian economy and creating jobs through focused intervention in critical areas was yielding results. “We must also commend the determination and doggedness of Coscharis Farms to establish not only its Rice Farms but also the Processing Mill which will process not only its paddy rice, but also those paddies produced by local small holder farmers under our Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP). Emefiele pointed out that despite the challenge of flooding faced by Coscharis Farms last year, the company has kept to its repayment plan, saying a total of about N800 million had been paid so far. “This was notwithstanding the challenging flooding incidents suffered by the project that led to the CBN granting moratorium and tenor extension to the project twice, we thank Coscharis Farms Limited,” he added. Earlier in his speech, the President of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, said even though the vision to establish the farm was conceived about three decades ago, it was five years ago that he decided to pursue the vision of going into actual farming and keyed into the federal government agenda of de-emphasising importation and ensuring food sufficiency in the country. “We started with a land in Anaku that was abandoned for so many years because of the peculiar terrain which is prone to flooding. Despite challenges in mechanised farm development, I can tell you today that we will soon cover the entire about 3000 hectares of land that Coscharis Farms Limited currently own in Anaku. We also have plans for smallholder farmers in our surrounding communities to provide training, inputs under the out-grower scheme in cooperation with NIRSAL and other agencies. “The plan to build a rice processing mill is motivated by our desire to fix a problem. We want to create more jobs and also want to build skills in the region. “We want to process paddy harvested from our farm in Anaku into best quality rice. We want to contribute significantly to the government’s efforts to ensure food sufficiency through local production of rice. In addition, we want to set the pace for production of best quality local rice that will cause our people to change their preference from imported rice to locally milled rice which is known to be rich with important nutrients. “Rice is the most popular staple food consumed by every household in Nigeria and the country is the highest consumer of rice in the West African sub region and the second largest importer in the world, buying at least 2 million Metric tons per annum. Today, we have commenced the journey to accomplish these goals. “Coscharis Rice Processing Mill, Igbariam is a 120,000 MT modular ultra modern Rice Mill and this is the first phase with 40,000MT/annum capacity. The processing mill has come to stay in order to improve the quality of life of ndi Anambra as well as the economy of the state and Nigeria in general. The next phase of 80,000MT/annum will come on stream before the end of next year,” he added. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/10/03/emefiele-obiano-others-unveil-coscharis-n12bn-rice-mill/ 2 Likes 1 Share

Stakeholders Commend Appeal Court President & Anambra Government, as Court of Appeal is Set to Open in the State Following the revelation last week that a division of the Court of Appeal is to open soon in Awka, the Anambra State capital, stakeholders have been commending both Court of Appeal President Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa and the state government for their preeminent roles in bringing the appellate court nearer to the people. Both legal professionals and others have spoken to journalists in praise of the move, noting that the state ought to have been established in the state capital much earlier than now because, as Governor Willie Obiano has stated "over 70% of the cases at the Enugu Division of the Court of Appeal originate from Anambra State". The governor last December set up a five-person committee headed Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, to work for the creation of the appellate court. Mrs Patricia Igwebuike, the Special Adviser to the State Government on Legal Matters, as secretary, and the other committee members are Justice Anthony Iguh, formerly of the Supreme Court; Dr Uju Nwogu, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; and Mr Emeka Etiaba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. “The presence of the appellate court in our state will save our people the cost of having to travel to Enugu frequently in large numbers to obtain justice", said Daniel Ewelum, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria based in Kaduna but hails from Anambra State. “It will also reduce the time of obtaining justice and the huge fees paid legal practitioners for their services”. Chudi Onyiuke, a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Onitsha, noted, “the governor could not have assembled a better crack team to bring justice nearer home to our people. I know every member of the team, and they are a winning team any day anywhere. To both Chief Emmanuel Egbunonu and Mr Ejike Ezenwa, who practise in the state, the decision to establish a division of the appeal court in Awka came rather fast because of the calibre of people on the committee. "There is an important lesson in all this for all Nigerian people", Chief Egbunonu stated. "There is no replacement for meritocracy if Nigeria is to leapfrog in developmental terms". Mr Ezenwa concurred: "Meritocracy, which Governor Obiano has made a way of life in the state, "is the way to go". Frank Ndu Ndibe, a leading Lagos-based practitioner told reporters that "The Honourable Justice Bulkachuwa is one jurist reputed for a powerful sense of justice and is committed to service delivery. We are by no means surprised that she did the right thing in rather record time". Amaka Ezeno, a lawyer in Anambra State who has travelled on the messy Onitsha-Enugu Road on countless occasions to appear before the appellate court in Enugu, expressed gratitude to governor Obiano "for going beyond the call of duty to achieve this wonderful goal for our people". This morning, the chairman of the Anambra South Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife, an engineer who is also the traditional ruler of Isseke in Ihiala Local Government Area, sent a congratulatory message to Governor Obiano on the approval for the appellate court in the state, describing him as "a man of foresight and commitment". The letter signing the approval for the Appeal Court in Awka was signed by the Court of Appeal president who gave five conditions before the court could start, and the conditions include a court hall and residences for five justices. “We have already more than met the conditions”, according to the Attorney and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Nwogu. “For instance, the former Customary Court of Appeal building in Awka can serve as the administrative building, complete with chambers for five justices". Collaborating Dr Nwogu’s statement, the Special Adviser on Legal Matters revealed that five elegant storey buildings in an upscale estate in Awka have been secured as living accommodations for the justices. Mrs Igwebuike added that there are enough offices to serve as administrative and accounting units as well as a registry. “There are also sufficient accommodations for the staff for the takeoff of the Court of Appeal”, she assured. Anambralstson:Rather opposite Ekwueme Square. Obiano is the best biko, if Anambra had someone like obiano as governors before him, by now Anambra will be competitng favorably with states like Rivers and maybe even lagos. Obiano needs to fire his media aides asap. they are grossly incompetent. I dont know if they are afraid to confront and shut up the peter obi hate mob attacking obiano on social media. It's not even difficult to do because all the points favor Obiano. Some of them even have the nerve to compare umahi to obiano because Obiano's media aides are foolish. A governor performing like obiano needs to be on front burner in national discourse but because of useless media aides it looks as if nothing is happening. Very bad! 5 Likes 1 Share |
