Hello everyone & @BizBloke @giselle237 @justwise Like some of you here already know, I was refused a visa early last month, for the reasons highlighted below. (sorry, was unable to upload the letter, but these are the exact transcripts from the letter.) **You have applied to visit the UK for 7 days for tourism. In order to be able to to make a decision on whether or not to grant you entry clearance in this category I have taken into account your stated circumstances in Nigeria, the reasons for your visit and your proposed travel arrangements. **You have declared that you are employed and state that you earn 300,000 NGN (£672.05 Converted on Oanda.com, 05/09/2019) per month. You state that you spend 160,00 NGN (£358.43) per month on living costs. You state that your trip to the UK will cost 1,000,000.00 NGN (£2,240.17) which equates to over 7 months disposable income on a 7 days trip. Your proposed expenditure of your visit casts doubt on your intentions to visit the UK. I made some important mistakes, thanks to the agent who assisted me with the application. Now I am ready to reapply this month, and have a few questions and things to clarify, if you all don't mind. 1. My living expenses was stated as N160, 000 per month. Which is not a true reflection of my consistent monthly expenses. That figure was the estimated average of the amount that left my account the 6 months before my application, which contains loans to friends/family, one-time purchases of things like electronics etc. I am thinking of reducing my monthly living expenses to 80k-90k (keep in mind that I have a dependent that I give 5k per week) on my new application. 2. Aside my monthly 300k salary, I have a side income (amount not fixed) but has been consistent for a few years. The average amount of the last 6 months is 178k. This side income wasn't acknowledged in the decision to refuse my visa. What can I do to change that? 3. I am about to pay my rent, is that going to be a problem? Being that I will be spending a decent amount for my rent and at the same time willing to spend good money on a trip abroad? 4. What would be a reasonable amount to budget for the trip? I plan on spending 6 days, 5 days in London and 1 in Manchester for a football game. Your help and guidance will be greatly helpful to me. Thanks |

Wawu. The fiances messed it all up. I believe if you read up this thread yu would know how to tailor your visa application most especially the finance section. In this refusal, ur expenditure for a 7 day trip which yu pegged at 1million is far. Then ur disposable income translated to 140k... this was low as against ur spending 1million just like that. Whatever you do, do not rush in going back to the embassy now especially that you want to pay your rent. You must first remember how to adequately maintain your account so also that after the deduction for rent the ECO wouldnt say ur acct balance at one time was 1k. build ur account properly... reduce the dependents u re declaring on ur form. If they aint my children I wouldn’t list as dependent... ur budget for the trip should not be more than twice ur income after deductions of your monthly expenses Safely work around this with hostel accommodation(450k might b safe for you) Prepare a good itinerary for each day U can also decide to explain the side income in ur application form as well as cover letter with documentary evidence, but be careful not to come back here complaining if ur side income ends up confusing the ECO. i wish u the best. Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by oak202: 4:59am On Oct 10, 2019 |
Adex2066: The agent messed up the application considering the fact he stated your 160k as monthly expenses leaving you with a balance of 140k and you intend to spend 1m for a 6 days trip. 1. Reduce your monthly expenses to 40k-50k 2. You must show evidence of side business if You want to add it as additional income 3. That should not be a problem because it strengthen your ties to your home country in as much your balance can support your trip. Mind you , you should have excess above your trip budget as at the time of application. 4. Reasonable amount is 500k 5. Book hostels instead of hotels. It reduces your cost. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by Adex2066: 7:09am On Oct 10, 2019 |
oak202: I'm even more confused now about the rent because you are saying it is a positive while @giselle237 is a little worried about it. Note that even after paying my rent I will still have over 7m in my account. And also @giselle237 should I address the living monthly expenses and the 1m budget in my last application on this new one? Explaining that it was a mistake or rather just ignore it? Can you provide me with a sample letter for itinerary? |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by Suuz: 7:35am On Oct 10, 2019 |
Adex2066: Go ahead and pay your rent, as oak202 said, it is a positive thing because you won’t be paying for rent if you are planning to elope, that’s also a tie. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by BizBloke(m): 7:38am On Oct 10, 2019 |
Adex2066: I'd like to chip in some pointers: 1. These loans to friends/family, are they often returned? Unless "these loans" are gifts, they shouldn't count as monthly expense. You need to address this on your cover letter and mention what & what are loans and when they'll be returned and if any has ever been returned, that should go some way. This helps reduce your monthly living expense. If they're gifts, different ball game. 2. This means you earn 478k/month. You need to explain how you earn this side income and also, show that you get at least 178k per month from that; I'd suggest you work with the minimum side income instead of the average. Here, minimum will help you present a more realistic financial proof than average. 3. Is your rent calculated in your NGN160,000/month living expense? If no, here's what to do: divide it by 12 and then, you can effectively show what your rent is on a monthly basis and also explain that your rent is annualized and not monthly but it costs so so and so per month which at a certain time in a year (indicate when you usually pay your rent), you pay in bulk to your landlord. 4. NGN1,000,000 is too much (per UKVI consideration) to spend on a trip. I mean, it's your money but it's their rules. So you need to reduce the amount you've budgeted per expense category. Because you didn't specify the details of the different expense category, I can't say much about this but even without the knowledge of that, I think you need to cut your budget in 2, for starters. You've got a Leave Allowance? If so, should also help. Good luck! |

Paying rent with receipt/evidence strengthens ur tues. U cant have one year rent paid and run away... at least not immediately... I was only worried about your account balance after you must have paid rent as you urself said in ur 1st post that the rent is not a small amount. Explain in your additional information and cover letter the way u have explained about anything u want to clear up to the new deciding officer no money lodgements or huge deposits shud be found in ur acct without proof of funds origin Adex2066: |

Aibisoye0: This happened when I tried to book appointment for my sis. Your best bet is to re-do the appointment, you will get a message that you would make payment at the TLS centre, you ll be able to choose a date that way. Afterwards, go to contact us and shoot them a message, they will reply with a rebate form to be filled for the processing of your refund. |

Hello Everyone. I just got an email saying my application has been concluded. I applied for the priority visa on Friday (4th October). My question is this; after getting this email, does anyone know how long it takes for the document to get transferred back to the VAC and for pickup? |
