Madrid peaked 2003 and signed poorly to replace those players so they suffered. From 2007, the new rebuilding process took shape and by 2009 that team was reaching its peak. Pellegrini had 96pts with that team. They fired him because they felt he was not fully maximising the peak of the team so they hired Mou. He did only one better by winning league. He did not maximise the team so he too was fired. Then Carlo and Zidane did the rest.

Pep met Barca that had passed their peak. Rijkaard signed aged already established players and they helped him from 2003-2006. By 2007 they lost their way. They let him try but by 2008 it was clear he could not maximise their potential so they fired him. Which is where the story gets interesting. They wanted a manager to maximise the team's potential but Pep said I will get rid of Ronnie..Deco etc and rebuild. Enjoy the ride.
