I've always believed the root of the mass exodus of Doctors in naija isn't because we're underpaid, its majorly because of the hostile work environment we're working under.

Heck people see Soldiers and shiver in their boots, but see Doctors and treat them like crap.

Like it or not, a Doctor's place is second to none in this life. There might not always be war or insurgency but there'll always be illness and diseases. Infact during & after the war, there's no way there won't be illnesses to treat.

Even Soldiers respect Doctors more than Civilians do! So sad!

No mind dem, patients go dey behave like sey dem geh sense pass the Doctor wey dey the profession. They don't know the doctor also has a right to fire the patient, just as much as vice-versa.

I dey always document crazy things inside folder to avoid stories that touch, cos I already have a bias for the average Nigerian patient as being rude, mannerless & uncouth. Video all you want, shout all you want, Allah na my dead body go treat you for that place if you misbehave.

hello I am a doctor...there are some level of verbal /potentially physical insult /assault that will make me refuse to attend to a person or the person's dependant ..... I can't allow a patient or patients relative treat my anyhow or insult me.....never ... Doctors are human too.... but then I try to tolerate patient and their relatives...I do my best to accommodate patient and their their relatives shortcomings/attitude....... BUT if you pass your BOUNDARY I will defend myself in everyway... but we need to listen to both side before judging ..no one has heard the doctor's side

Any doctor so-called should have the right attitude to practice the profession. General hospitals witness deluge of patients because of the cheaper cost of treatment and specialization. Cases have occured where patients die while waiting for attention/treatment. If human life is not cheap in this country, comments like the one above ought not to be made. Patients and their family members are standing between life and death and desperation sets in. You observe no kind words or sympathy from the medical personnel on duty. That's wrong. I think the medical personnel have to undergo psychological training to handle issues like this with more humanity. Their job is primarily to save lives...not to waste them.

All those good for nothing doctors talking about boundary or limit should know that no amount of provocation can allow a banker ask you to leave or tell you to go with your money, they will look for a way to manage you.

You guys need to calm down. You only heard from the woman and then the doctor must be evil. How are you different from people burning thieves on the street? This is jungle justice. Did you watch the video? Why are other doctors, nurses etc not attending to the woman? If her daughter is sick, the next thing she will be doing is to carry phone and be looking for trouble on social media? Was she not supposed to look for a superior first etc? Was she sounding like someone whose child was really sick or someone who just wanted to start trouble? Calm down....

I had same or even worst experience with the Igado doctors early this month as I rushed my 1 year 3 month old baby to the hospital around 4 am bcs she couldn't breathe normally but they told me that I have to wait until when morning doctors arrived but to my astonisment I didn't see any doctors till around 11 am


I had no choice than to selve medicate after calling a friend doctor who prescribed drgs for her

Ask her doctor to honestly tell you how many patients reports her in a day...you will be shocked! You assumed your wife relates well to patient without even working with her. You are funny. Ask her....she will tell you

How do you know that the child was actually sick? A lot of parents bring their well children to the hospital just because they're worried. A hospital is a very busy place. Healthcare workers are trained to focus on those who need help the most first and foremost.

This is a case of a mother & her sick child. Guys picture a scenario where you take child or any close person to d hospital and Doctors shuns you how will it look like except you don't use hospitals in naija. (Government hospitals especially).

Whose fault exactly is it that there are long queues with few doctors ? And who suffers from seeing an impossible number of patients? In Nigeria instead of faulting the right quarters we will be fighting those who are still trying to work under serious constraints! A doctor has the right to refuse to treat and a patient has the right to refuse treatment except in an emergency situation ! After the quarrel and he treats the child and something naturally goes wrong he could be accused of treating a patient with vendetta in mind !!!!

at that point the child needs a medical attention and not to know who is right or wrong I guess you have not lost someone due to medical negligence abi

It is likely the other way round. We gave had experience of negligent doctors. This has happened to my brother before. Refusal to admit a kid with meningitis at a children's hospital left him cross eyed. The story did not end there.

No doubt some doctors out of one reason or another display negligence of their duties. That is where maturity and experience comes in. Generally most Nigerians from all walks of life just have this bottled up hot temperament waiting to explode. People are just harsh and hostile. Attitudinal change comes in here and it starts from u &I.

I don't think the Doctor should punish the sick child because of anything the mom must have said.It's all about emotional control and a medical practitioner should never allow his emotion gets in the way of his job.
Having said that,some females can be extremely difficult to attend to.I witnessed an incident last week,where an elderly woman insulted an FRSC official just because she was told to wait a while due to network isssues.She said,YOU ARE STUPID,YOU WILL NEVER GROW OLD' to an FRSC official.I witnessed everything and the FRSC man didn't say/do anything to warrant that at all.

I do visit her time to time and the report I got from her patient, staff and even the director which is a family friend makes me happy about her. I respect those who leave up to their oath. You are to save life first.
