Hey guys, I havent been available because i moved from my former city to Toronto, and the move was really stressful. I am taking a graduate degree at Ryerson University, my second degree here. I am not in the habit of defending myself about my facts. They are facts. Earlier in this thread i did post a few of my paystubs just to buttress the fact about my earnings. I set a target for myself for last year and i met it. I set one for this year, i couldn't meet it because my hours where cut drastically. I have set another for next year, and i will meet it. I will keep saying it, it is absolutely possible to make 100k on a so-called menial job, but like i said, you have to put in a lot of overtime and sometimes augment with a second job. This is a picture of my tax statement from 2018. Although, i have learnt now that you have to be smart about making money in Canada. Because of my earnings from last year, i wasn't approved for a student loan, so i am paying for my degree from my pocket. My sisters were both approved for loans and grants when they applied for school. My elder sister just got a grant of $10k, though she has 4 kids anyway. So when you earn, make sure you earn very well or try and stay below $42k a year if you plan on accessing some government benefits.. Babyvet:
We are talking about his income not his savings .Go read the op post , he said his salary for last year was around $100,000 [quote author=Babyvet post=82116176] 22 Likes 2 Shares |

You made a lot of valid points and i support you. But just a clarification. I never said everybody will make six figures, i have friends who do, but they work coporate jobs. But what i said i made, i made. The kind of shifts i put in is not meant for everyone. The fact is that very few people can put in such shifts cos you will have no life, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE and its just for a short time. I had a short stint in Lululemon working as a network engineer in Vancouver, and no one in the team made less than 90k, and my team was 90% indian too. Canada has very good paying jobs, but dont wait for those jobs, get something doing while waiting for those jobs. mofedamijo: Please i want to beg Nigerians to always read, and also do their own research, that's the best form of Education, having said that, what this op posted so far doesn't add up by 2%, if you must make six figures in North America, then you must be in a very high paying job, listen to me and listen attentively, no matter how much bonus you get, if you're not in a certain sector or certain companies, you can't make six figures let alone save six figures, and even if your boss is your father, the board of the company and state have specific salary structure. Even if your father gifts you over $10,000, you will be taxed, so i don't know where the op got all these figures he posted. $16/hr job will never give you six figures, even if you decide not to sleep for 365 days a year. Secondly, you have a limited amount of hours you can work, even if your body is made of rock.
Thirdly, nobody envies him or anything, but Nigerians must be told the truth at all times, and you should also do your own research. we have Nigerians who left 1.0million naira job, just because they were told Canada pays like crazy, be wise my people, Canada doesnt pay like crazy, do your own research, you find someone who is a highly skilled individual working in Walmart, why, no job for his/her skills out there. I have so many Indian friends in Canada, gurus in I.T, they all left India where they are well paid, only for them to land in Canada and no job.
Don' get me wrong people, Nigerians make it out there, but to be sincere with you, maybe few percentages of them, the rest a living basic lives, am not here to argue, am stating facts.
For me, the best country in the world is the country where your dreams come true, wherever you make it in life is your best country. I have met some Nigerian nurses in Namibia and other African countries, and believe you me, they earn over $3000/month, live in beautiful houses where the rent is less than $350, low tax, and they travel anywhere when they are on leave. To let you know, not so many Nigerians even earn $30,000/annum in U.S AND CANADA, these are facts.......may God take us all to our promise land, if your promise land is in congo, believe you me, you will make it better than folks in Europe, U.S or even Canada.
For me, i have traveled a bit in life, and God has been faithful, however, i will rather be a Dangote or Kofi Annan than be eager to get the blue passport, there are certain position you get to in life, even the embassy awaits your arrival, am not a blue passport fanatic, if it comes my way, fine, but i want to make a stamp on the world, and so my take-off point doesn't have to be Canada or U.S. God bless US all. 19 Likes |

atutupoyoyo2211: Hi Guys, I moved to Canada 2 years ago and i have not been able to save any money yet. I made up my mind that i must save $120,000 (one hundred and twenty thousand dollars) by November 10,2020. I decided to document my progress on this forum, so that anyone that wants to compel themselves to save money for the future can also be encouraged to do so. We all have different savings targets. I didn't put my full information on the forum due to security reasons since i am going to be posting my bank balances from time to time to document my progress. Now, a little background on myself. I am a graduate from Nigerian. I came to Canada in 2016, worked in a warehouse for a while. I presently work as a security guard while doing my Masters degree. Its a 2 year masters degree. My hourly earning is $16 an hour, but i work a heavy overtime schedule, since nobody wanted to work overtime, as a naija sharp guy, i offered to work the overtime shifts. I started the Savings last week and i am going to post my first bank balance online. Lets see if i can meet my target. If anyone has tips that can help me achieve my goals, your suggestions are highly welcome. If anyone wants to save, you can also post on here , lets document our progress together. But please keep personal info off here for security reasons. So, lets do this. Kudos to you but if you were a PR since 2014 how come you moved in 2016? |

Because I used to work in Shell, and didnt have the courage to leave Nigeria to an uncertain Canada, until my PR eligibility period started running out. If my PR eligibility period ran out (2 years in Canada out of your first five years), I would have had to reapply again. And looking at a lot of Canada threads on nairaland, it wil be stupid of me to lose my PR status especially at a time Nigeria as a country is failing. So I dumped Shell and relocated. Mizwisdom:
