I'm happy for Osimhen. Nice to know we are slowly emerging from the dark days of not having any notable names in football, representing us at the world stage. Today, we are competing with Senegal and Morocco, as far as notable names go, but even better, ours is a young crop, with another decade to go give or take. A promising group of ballers, we even have a teenage goalie, who won't be retiring soon.

On the flip side, I'm rather unhappy at what has become of our age grade teams. At the rate the age grade teams are going, what with the many tales of biased selections and unmerited positions, a time may come that we won't have any homegrown ballers to turn to in the senior team. We may have to outsource everything, so, get ready for more foreign born players in the Nigerian senior team, since the folks responsible for unearthing talent on the home front are looking to make a quick buck.

On this note, I am particularly concerned for my bro, Omanbala. How long will his hatred for foreign born players, especially those of the British stock, last? Will he be alright in the coming years, when the inevitable happens? Let us remember him, while we ruminate on these words grin

The Unprofessional Football League : Kunle Soname Spoke The Startling Truth…..

Remo Stars FC of Ogun State is presently one of the top club side parading young players. Since their emergence as a league side, the team has continue to feed its ideology of players development and youthfulness philosophy .

The Chairman of the Club, Hon. Kunle Soname in 2015 made the headlines by being the first Nigerian to own a top European Football Club.
The business mogul purchased 70% of the club deal which made him the owner of Portuguese side, Club Derpostivo Feirense.

It was one of the biggest story the Nigerian football ideology will produce in century. Much so, many future are secured through this unprecedented efforts.

The deal according to him will create a viable platform for players transfer, training for officials and administrators which in the long run will expand the horizon of development of people involved and the Nigeria football system at large.

The Ikene born business tycoon speaking recently at the Gateway United’s Stakeholders Forum in Abeokuta bemoaned the poor structure and less enterprising status of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Startling! As a football investor, Hon. Soname noted, the league is a waste of time, energy, resources and money as he said he will rather focus on the development of players than any financial gains from owing a club in the Nigeria League.

Remo Stars is one of the few private owned club in the Nigeria top league, if a private football investor would bear such remarks on the league, what tale would state Government which owns bunch of the top flight sides comment, A total waste of tax payers money.

The common cliché of Government business is not a business would justify the fact that no state government has really earned significant economic benefits from their owned club.

The handwriting of the Remo Stars Chief indicates that Nigeria League does not or never commensurate the investment being expended on it.

The Remo Stars Chief noted that his team has been in the NPFL twice and on both occasion were relegated.

Neither rocket science or magic is the effort needed to transform the league. The insincerity of the administrators which will drive the transformation is missing and there is no two way about that.

Quite different, Chief Soname confirmed he has sent 14 young boys to Europe in the last 4 years. It is indeed a narrative changing focus as no team ever come close to that transfer record.

The fire brigade approach and unprofessional direction of the league has render many of the club sides less productive.

With or without sponsor, how weighty would the compensation of Premier League teams after their participation in a league season and how much will the transfer of 14 players to Europe with clauses of agreement attached would earn a team. Glaring is the difference.

The Soname’s comment further established the notion of wrong people handling the league.
Football is a business and should have it’s interest being protected at all times. The game has grown beyond mere rhetorics and now have significant effect in economic might of a society. What we are missing as a country through sport could not be quantified.

Apart from few, none of the Government owned club sides have a legacy of accountability or transparency even as Government subvention continue to fall into the club year in year out.

Recently, a newly inaugurated management of a state owned club complained bitterly after taking over the club. It was noted that the club only owned 7 players among all the players serving the club, while others are loaned players. It comes to mind that as a Government owned team that never pay taxes, pay for stadium, why should getting best legs services for a team proved so demanding.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different result is considered witless, so much that an unpackaged league may never be rewarding.

While we watch keenly when the league will live up to its best, development of players will continue to provide succour for whoever among the football investors thought it wise to prioritized.

Maybe KC should find way to go to French league one.

Considering that Slimani completely flopped comparative to his high scoring times in the Portuguese league. 40 game's in the EPL and 9 goals is nothing to be proud about for a striker.

Although his record is better than KC there is still hope if he can find a less competitive league. He may just resurrect his career. One should note that Slimani also flopped in the Turkish league on loan.

Somehow this forgotten Slimani is now flying high in the French league.

TheGoodJoe:
Amunike learning from Louis van Gaal?

Nigeria's game was built on a Van Gaal-style domination of possession. No surprise, as Amunike played for Barcelona for three years under the Dutchman in 1997-2000.

On Nigeria's U17 success under Emmanuel Amunike which Osimhen broke the goalscoring U17 record.

Osimhen's first major breakthrough was playing under a possessive system and that was why he was first picked by Amunike when he held an open screening in Lagos from the best of my knowledge.

Osimhen naturally has the instincts for the system and also has the awareness to chase the ball or drive with the ball into open spaces which will make the most from clever build up plays.

He was first trained and Nurtured by a Barcelona man. I have no doubt he will excel at Barcelona. My only fear lies with him getting a fair chance to prove himself due to competition from other players who can play the role.

This AveraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeJoe and his nonsense . How is your Soakway champion?

Too bad. That's why only state Governments can run football clubs in Nigeria.

It's a no go area for a private investor.

Slimani is not an epl flop, he was never starting ahead of vardy

If i could remember he was their top scorer in the champions league

Only first grade strikers can bench vardy at leicester, but no first grade striker will play for club like leicester

Example of first grade striker, Aguero, Suarez, cavani

Its your choice to commend him that's your prerogative.

The topic l have raised is completely different from the one you have.

Maybe because your view is narrow and parochial it completely bypassed you that Slimani got a considerable number of votes.

The same Slimani that essentially failed in the EPL. There is relevant comparison between KC and Slimani. They are both Leicester city forward players and both have been firing blanks for three seasons.

Slimani goes to league one and his almost dead career is Resurrected. The implication is that all hope is not lost for KC, maybe he should find his way to the French league one.

But of course you had to misconstrue my comments.

Slimani failed in turkey and did well in france, is turkey better than france ? NO

Sliman didnt fail in england

Stop your hate for osimhen

Let's go back to basics, what is prejudice❓ an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

I raised a cogent and relevant observation about the ascendancy from football obscurity of Islam Slimani. Who Osimhen just beat to get player of the month.

Slimani is a Leicester city player just like KC and thier situations are very similar. Both have been very poor over the past three seasons in the EPL

In that context to then deduce that if KC were to move to the French league one he may have a change of fortune. That makes perfect common sense.

You are guilty of being bigoted with double standard and blindly prejudiced with negative bias and presumption. Not me.

On this thread we practice EXCLUSION and not INCLUSION you would think there are only 2/3 Nigerian players doing well.

There is no need for me to join and add to the commendations given to Osimhen when the whole thread is overwhelmingly singing his praises continously. It's just repetition of fact, it's boring to me.

So because I don't join the Aladura hallelujah choir to sing the praises of Osimhen l HATE him.

Look at how you think and make deductions and maybe you describe yourself as a progressive Nigerian youth.

So when l say you are prejudiced and bigoted l say it objectively not emotively.

NUFF SAID.

This is extremely low
I cant walk my head round this.

Nigeria can never grow if everyone think like this.

I will pass

it doesn't occur to you...that a Nigerian who leaves the shores of the country to go hurstle abroad or born and brought up abroad...

can still return to make meaningful contributions to the country's growth and development?

must you live in Nigeria to contribute to Nigeria's growth....in the long run.

if you look well the present governor of Edo state worked and lived in the US prior returning to the country to serve in the last government and now he is a governor likewise Donald Duke of Cross River...

they're opportunities you'll never get living in Nigeria except you're connected....presently only the SP was given 26 slots in FIRS recruitment exercise yet to be announced imagine how many the presidency and others were given?

that tells you.... jobs and many sugar opportunities in Nigeria are reserved for connected folks which is not same abroad...

all they need from you in the US and UK is to be competent and good at your job...

my cousin told me that at a time the No. 1 health worker in Italy was an Ibo man I doubt that will ever happen in Nigeria... tribalism and fAvouritism will deprive him of such....
moreover you must have seen how many Nigerians have attained heights abroad they won't have even come close to had it been they were in Nigeria....

please never again discourage anyone who has the opportunity to leave Nigeria from living.... if you care enough tell them to always have Nigeria in mind and do sure return to contribute their quarter in making Nigeria great again......

if you read news very well... you will know that foreign exchange remittal from Nigerians abroad in the space of last year exceeds the revenue made from many core channels......

What is Pinnick destroying? You know the state of our football before he came on board?

Pinnick is surrounded by greedy vultures and he sometimes has to assent to their request to save his head, but don't come here to say Pinnick is destroying anything because he built the current Nigerian football structure from the ground up
What structure is he building ?
Appointing mediocre coaches to the national team and refusing to sack them?
or his nonchalant attitude toward the state of the league?
It was under his watch that we failed to qualify for two AFCON.. under his watch, the super falcons failed to qualify for back to back Olympics..
Aside from the improvement in the welfare and organization of the super eagles, what exactly has Pinnick done better than his predecessors ?

I have no time for argument, go and check the preparations and funding for tournament before Pinnick and after he came on board and come and talk
