Nigeria U17 goal machine Olakunle Olusegun is hoping to score more goals at the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil. The ABS striker won the top scorer award at the regional qualifiers and has been scoring goals for fun in friendly matches. Olusegun would be emulating Wilson Oruma (1993), Macauley Chrisantus (2007) and Victor Osimhen (2015) if he finishes as the Golden Boot winner at Brazil 2019. Speaking after netting a brace against South Korea, Olusegun said : ''I was trying to score more than two goals but I could not, I am hoping to score more in the World Cup.'' The Manu Garba-led team will face Japan in their final friendly on Sunday evening and Olusegun is predicting another win against the Asians. The number 7 added : ''By the grace of God we are going to win the match and we will try our best not to concede any goal and we will play more better''. Five-time world champions Nigeria will do battle with Hungary, Ecuador and Australia in Group B of the World Cup. 1 Like |

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted that he still has to pinch himself over the signing of Joe Aribo. The London-born midfielder left Charlton Athletic to join Gerrard's Gers side, after inspiring the Addicks to Championship promotion last season. Not only has the 23-year-old scored some important goals in Europa League qualifying, but the Nigeria international also found the net against five-time World Cup winners Brazil last weekend. Considering that the Ibrox outfit only spent some £300,000 on signing him [BBC Sport], he's clearly a huge bargain. And Gerrard, speaking to Rangers TV, concedes that he still finds it hard to believe that he pulled it off. He said: "The moment of the goal [against Brazil] and the type of goal, he will score them throughout his career because he's got all the attributes to make the box, he's got the soft feet in the box to create exciting things, and I still have to pinch myself that we got him here. "Joe can be whatever he wants to be. If he stays as humble as he is, stays as professional and keeps showing effort and desire, Joe can make his career whatever he wants it to be." Aribo clearly has a huge future ahead of him and his form doesn't make Lee Bowyer look very well. The Charlton boss suggested that a move to Scotland was a backwards move for Aribo's career in claims that now look a bit, well, silly. 1 Like |

aribo and ojo's rating against hearts Joe Aribo – 7/10 Looked full of confidence and showed good composure on the ball in midfield, without making a telling contribution. Continues to look a great buy. Sheyi Ojo – 4/10 Entirely ineffective, failing to cause his full-back problems. Looked to get behind on occasion but flattered to deceive and often ground promising attacks to a halt. Subbed for Kent after an hour. Hard to see how he can continue to justify a starting berth with Kent back fit. |

Nigeria QPR Coach Tells Rohr What Ebere Eze Will Add To Super Eagles – He Has Lots Of Technical Abilities As coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr continue to monitor the progress of QPR midfielder Ebere Eze ahead of a potential call up to the team, coach of QPR Mark Warburton has spoken about the qualities of the 21 year old. Eze scored twice from the spot to hand QPR a 3-1 win away to Hull City yesterday in the English Championship and Warburton was full of praise for the England U21 midfielder who has voiced out his readiness to represent Nigeria if called up. “Ebere is a very, very talented young player. There is loads of work for him to do and loads of potential for him to still discover. He’s a good player and you saw his quality, his character and his desire to be a better player today [on Saturday]. He’s a very talented individual and he has a very big future ahead of him.” Warburton added: “He’s a powerful athlete and he can go left or right. He looks to get on the ball, his awareness is good and he has lots of technical ability. Like all young players, he has to work hard because this can be a spiteful game if you don’t work hard. “He’s a pleasure to work with day-in, day-out, as are Ilias, Brighty, Dom Ball, Ryan Manning; there are a number of very good young players in our squad. We have to keep working with them.” Already he has trained with the Super Eagles but he is yet to be called up since that happened two years ago. That has however not affected his desire to represent Nigeria despite many suggesting he could be an option for England in few years time. As reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, Rohr initially thought he needed international clearance which usually take years before it’s approved by FIFA but the coach was later informed that he only played in friendly games for England, meaning it won’t take long to get his papers. For now he is in contention to make the Super Eagles squad for the next round of international games, where they will play against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively in the race to be at the 2020 Africa Cup of Nations. 3 Likes |
