Some heavyweights on your list. I'm surprised you picked Greta though. She only had Lady bird to her name.

Edit; saw your edited post. That's more like it.

Ya. If there's a movie I don't think I have the mental capacity to watch again but would love to keep our recommend, it would be Prisoners.

Nothing disgraceful about that if he gets his Oscar portraying a comic book character. The character is not the importance, it's the job he does while portraying the character that matters. Heath Ledger got an Oscar portraying the same character. Oscar na Oscar, as long as your performance was worth it, the character you portrayed doesn't matter.
As a true and authentic fan of various works of Joaquin Phoenix,I believe without a shred of doubt, it will be an absolute and utter disgrace if he wins an Oscar for playing a comic book character while he never received thesame recognition for his works in The Master and Her.
Heath Ledgers Oscar was handed to him based on sentimentality due to his death and nothing else.I personally loathe his cartooney portrayal of Joker

The Laundromat = 6/10

Too much take on financial crimes. It has a very creepy moment

I've seen people win the Oscars with lesser/sketchier roles. At the end of the day, it's more of what you bring to the table as an actor, than the probity of the role.
I find it absolutely demeaning Joaquin Phoenix is being considered for an Oscar by portraying a comicbook character. The Gods forbid if he does win any sort of prestigious award for the role I will be done with him

Greta Gerwig has done nothing amazing. She is in fact, overrated. She got that Oscar nomination because feminists wanted a female director at the Oscars cos it was the peak of #MeToo. Lady Bird wasn't a great film. Tarantino shouldn't come first cos his works are basically the same

For real! It was an heart wrenching film. The first time I watched it, I could barely handle the stress.

Have you seen Mystic River? Both films are cut from the same cloth.

Bruh, like Beorn said, Oscar na Oscar. What about DiCaprio that won an Oscar for a role where he barely talked, while he got snubbed in The Wolf of Wall Street, The Great Gatsby, The Departed, et al? Pretty certain Joaquin Phoenix will be the happiest man in the world if he snagged an Oscar for the Joker role. Don't cry more than the bereaved.

this. The Wolf of Wall Street should have easily been Dicaprio's moment. Phoenix should win. He has waited long enough. Even Rami Malek has an Oscar already and Adam Driver is said to be Phoenix's biggest competition at the moment. Phoenix needs to win the damn thing already

If JP wins an Oscar for Joker portrayal, he won't be the first or the last actor who has put up memorable performances in the past deserving of an Oscar only to lose out but later won for a lesser acting performance. Leo Di Caprio had over the years been denied of an Oscar before finally getting with an act that wasn't his finest. Denzel Washington had more memorable performances than Training Day that got him an Oscar, but he had to act as a crooked cop in one of his average performances to win an Oscar. So, it's no big deal. It doesn't matter what he was portraying or whether he'd done better in the past, if JP wins Oscar for Joker, nobody will find it ridiculous.

As in. At this point in his career where newbies are winning Oscars, while he only has 3 nominations to speak of, Phoenix will be more than happy to welcome a win, even if it's a rusted win.

We're barely 3 months away from bidding this decade goodbye. This decade has been a fascinating period for filmmakers. Emergent talents caught a break, veteran filmmakers rediscovered their X-factor, while some got chewed up and spat out by the unforgiving movie machine. Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises, Dunkirk)

James Wan (The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Aquaman)

Russo Brothers (Captain America: Civil War, Infinity War, Endgame)

Ryan Coogler (Creed, Creed 2, Black Panther)

Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049)

David Fincher (The girl with the dragon tatoo)

Adam McKay (Vice)

Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born)

Michael Bay (13 hours, Transformers: The Last Knight, Bumblebee)

Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians)

LOL @getting done with him. It wont dent his record if you get done with him, as if that matters anyway. I can wager you'd still watch future JP movies if he cops an Oscar for Joker role.

Marriage Story. Driver and Scarlett Johansson featured there as a celebrity couple fighting to get a divorce. So far, they've received glowing reviews with Driver getting more of the praise but Johansson is still seriously considered for best actress.

Michael B Jordan was expected to be a contender but his movie, Just Mercy didn't do so well with critics. Antonio Banderes is currently in third place behind Phoenix and Driver
