TheKingIsHere: The user reviews on imdb and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is nothing to write home about. Apparently people don't like its themes of white supremacy and racism. Perhaps they prefer the nuclear war tension in the graphic novel. But then we are not in the 80s anymore and the show ain't set in the 80s. I don't really understand the backlash. |

LOL. Uhm where are these guys getting the notion that DC is a bigger brand than Marvel? The MCU has raked in more revenue than the DCEU that its not even a joke (pun intended); Joker is yet to surpass any of the Avengers films when it comes to Box Office ROI math. Not to mention Marvel has had a more steady success than DC. Also Dark Phoenix is not even the biggest Marvel flop. Fant4stic is. And a couple of DC movies have tanked worse than Fant4stic including Green Lantern and Steel. 2 Likes 1 Share |

XxSabrinaxX:Sabrina, nobody is saying that joker will surpass any avengers movies in terms of box office gross. What we are saying is that the profitability of the joker movie is bigger than most marvel movies even with their billions of dollars and that is what every studio looks for at the end. How much profits the movie made. The most profitable DCEU movie is Wonder woman despite having a lower box office to Aquaman. The joker movie is going to be the most profitable comic book movie of all time when it hits $915m, yes that would be a bigger profits than what Endgame gave Disney. Ask Forbes. Actually, dark phoenix took the crown of the greatest flop from Fan4stic. Fan4stic had a budget of $120m and box office of $168m meaning it overall was 1.4× its budget. Dark phoenix on the other hand had a budget of $200m and box office of $252.4 meaning an overall of 1.262× its budget. Considering the fact that studios only receive about 66-69% of the entire box office gross, dark phoenix was a greater flop. Lastly, which comic book brand is bigger is highly debatable because up until 2012, DC was bigger and if we use their entire history, that would be another long history class I rather not take 5 Likes 1 Share |

Nickshrapnel:You do know this happened only once? She said spiderman has sold more merchandise than Superman, batman and the avengers rolled in one. I want to see a year by year merchandise sales report so I could comply them all together and see if spiderman will actually come out on top. |
Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Nobody: 10:00am On Oct 25, 2019 |
Blackspider:The Licensing letter (I think that's the name of the website) did the study in 2013. Spiderman sold 1.3 billion in merchandise sales. Avengers, Superman and Batman made within the range of 400-500 mil EACH. A simple google search will bare out everything i've just written. Batman is now the biggest in the US when it comes to merch but Worldwide, the biggest brands remain Spider-Man and The Avengers. It's waaaaaaaay past my bedtime so I'm not gonna bother searching for the links since I have an early start tomorrow but you can search it for yourself Cc. MJBOLT, Vic2Ree Modified to include EACH |
Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Nobody: 10:09am On Oct 25, 2019 |
Blackspider I never said anything about Box Office Gross. I was talking of Box Office Profit. Joker is not the highest in any of them and even at the end of its run, it won't be. Vic2Ree brought up an interesting point when he mentioned box office ROI and profit. Matter of fact, I've seen the math somewhere online. I'm going to see if I can find it. Joker isn't even the top 12 yet when it comes to profit. 1 Like |

XxSabrinaxX:I think there was a time this argument was made here before. Granted that Spider-Man made over a billion in merchandise sales in 2014, I am not refuting it but ever since, Batman had always topped Spider-Man in merchandise sales in the US/Canada. The worldwide merchandise sales would prove rather difficult to attain because of either inconsistency in statistical reports or unavailability of said report. But it is also a well known facts that the US/Canada makes up for about 70%(debatable) of global merchandise sales. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.rakutenintelligence.com/blog/2016/dark-knight-rises-batman-tops-online-superhero-merchandise-sales&ved=2ahUKEwjl5talh7flAhUUXMAKHVcGCGAQFjAAegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw3yWAQJPF-F4t1kpE5JfVcR |

XxSabrinaxX:The ROI you are talking about, is it on movies generally or specifically to the superhero genre? Because if it was the latter, Forbes already said it would be the most profitable. |

XxSabrinaxX, I have seen the reports on ROI, and wow did Endgame made a lot of profits. But there is also a gut feeling I have that the included merchandise sales, DVD and Blu-ray sales all together. Do you understand where I am getting at? |
Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Nobody: 10:37am On Oct 25, 2019 |
Blackspider:We are saying the same thing. The Spiderman brand suffered a bit of a decline in the US because of the "One More Day" comic debacle and the maligned Garfield movies. On the other hand, the Dark Knight trilogy was receiving acclaim left, right and centre. Batman and Superman are much bigger comic book icons so the fact that Spidey managed to wallop them both with the Avengers thrown in at some point is saying something IMO 1 Like |

Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Blackspider: 10:52am On Oct 25, 2019 |
XxSabrinaxX:We might be saying the same thing and also different thing same time, all I know is that Spider-Man alone is not a bigger brand than both Batman and Superman currently. What he did in 2014 was a one-time thing and shouldn't be a yard stick for measurement. Batman only started topping Spider-Man in merchandise sales 3 years after the end of the Nolan trilogy. Also, the one more day comics was released in 2007 but didn't stop it from making a billion in merchandise 2014 though . So I don't think the comics negatively affected Spider-Man nor did the Nolan trilogy positively affected Batman |
