Made a list of all CBMs that grossed $200M+ worldwide and sorted them w.r.t both profit and ROI. Boxoffice of 74 (EDIT: 85. 11 movies were added to the new list) movies were analyzed in total.

EDIT: Many $200M+ CBMs which are not in this list were pointed out in the comments. The list will be updated with those. Most notable miss was the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, which has an ROI of 6.99, making it the actual holder of the highest ROI for a CBM. Kudos to u/Karnas for pointing that out.

EDIT: Here's the updated list (Older one removed).

All CBMs listed in the domestic list of Box Office Mojo and has $200M+ worldwide gross are added. Hope nothing went under the radar this time.

Methodology

Return = (0.5 * Domestic gross) + (0.25 * China gross) + (0.4 * OS-China gross)
Profit = Return - Budget
ROI = Return/Budget
Disclaimer

This post is only concerned with production costs and box office revenue. Non-production costs (such as marketing costs) and revenue from non-BO sources (such as ancillaries) are not considered.

CBMs with $200M+ profit

Ranking Movie Profit (in million dollars)
1. Avengers: Endgame 756.8
2. Avengers: Infinity War 512.3
3. Marvel's The Avengers 436.9

2. The Mask 6.64
3. Deadpool 6.03
4. Batman 5.42
5. Joker* 5.02*
6. Venom 3.23
7. Deadpool 2 3.15
8. 300 3.13
9. Avengers: Endgame 3.13
10. Captain Marvel 3.10

Surprising findings

Batman (1989) made more profit than Batman v Superman and Superman (1978) made more profit than Man of Steel.

X-Men: First Class lost money (only $3.9M, but loss nonetheless) on the box office.
Joker

As u/AGOTFAN pointed out the last time I posted a similar list, the budget of Joker is $64M, not $55M.

Joker's domestic gross till 21st Oct, 2019 (3rd monday) and overseas gross till 20th Oct, 2019 (3rd weekend) is considered.

Joker till date has made $321.5M in return ($257.5M profit, 5.02 ROI).

$300M domestic gross and $600M overseas gross will ensure $390M in return, i.e., $326M profit (#5 of all time behind Endgame, Infinity War, Avengers and Black Panther) and 6.09 ROI (#3 of all time behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Mask).

It would have to make a return of $426M (beating The Mask) to claim #2 ROI and a return of $448M to dethrone Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to reach the highest ROI of all CBMs.

To beat Black Panther and become the most profitable non-Avengers CBM, Joker requires a return of $457M.

This list will be updated as Joker and other CBMs make further ramblings at the box office.

I sincerely was undecided. If you go to sites like superherohype, reddit and NeoGAF, you could go at least 8-9 pages without seeing some sad Marvel or DC cuck taking cheap shots at the rival side undecided. Sadly it's not the case here. I came to NL as a fan of both but I remember the very first thread I jumped into was some DC fans tongue-lashing Marvel. And I can be pretty defensive of Marvel cos I grew up as a Marvelite grin. I only started getting into DC in my late teens. Naturally it was easy to pick a side when the storm kept getting worse.

I don't even take these nairaland Marvel/DC threads seriously. They can get too juvenile for me sometimes. I usually prefer Superherohype as my go to chat room for Comic book movie stuff. I'm an active member there but I won't tell you what my handle is tongue

To be fair, Batman is more iconic than Spider-Man in the United States. He predates Spider-Man by two decades. He is supposed to be selling more merch IMO.

It is quite fascinating that you took the words of a Reddit user seriously just because it suited your agenda.

First of, this is the greatest piece of trash I have ever seen and I mean it. The first screenshot is the actual profits deadline reported Aquaman made which is less than the dead ass Reddit user posted.

Secondly, the second screenshot shows the actual profits Wonder Woman made which of course was higher than what the Reddit user reported again.

Thirdly, the third screenshot indicates how much of a profit age of Ultron made which of course was higher than what the Reddit user reported.

Fourthly, the fourth screenshot indicates how much of a profit black panther made which of course was higher than what the Reddit user reported.

With all that said, you want me to take this your post seriously?

Let it also be known that each screenshot provided evidence of DVD and Blu-ray sales, Pay tvt and network TV. Merchandise sales were excluded. Now tell me how would you expect joker which hasn't finished its theatrical run, does have any DVD and Blu-ray sales, rentals etc to be up of the list. When everything is said and done, joker is more likely to be the MOST PROFITABLE COMIC BOOK MOVIE IN TERMS OF BUDGET TO BOX OFFICE.

Would it be the most profitable comic book movie of all time when everything is added? HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but it would definitely be in the range of infinity war and black panther (meaning 2nd, 3rd or 4th most profitable).

Note: Captain Marvel and Endgame was excluded because they haven't added everything up but the Reddit user must be God to know how big a profit it made.

P.S, Next time try giving reports from a respectable source not some Reddit user analysis
