The result of a ghastly oversight on the part of the ISRO; over shooting their capabilities by attempting to land in the south pole, a region that is NEVER free of shadows. NASA's 2nd time and latest photos of the crime scene show no traces of the ill fated lander.

When one launches a space rocket there r more than 20,000 points in the entire space launcher system where a failure can occur.

If a failure does occur in any of the said points the launch will fail either on ground or while airborne etc.

Still nations strive to launch so that they can expand their technological limitations and even if they fail , it serves to drive them to succeed in follow on endeavours. This is how science works.

Moon landing on the south pole was one of the primary missions , isro believed it was within their capabilities and they came close to it some hundreds of meters to moons surface.

Ironically the over performance of the GSLV launcher increased the mission life of one of the primary missions ie the moon orbiter to 7 years from designated 1 year and similarly over performance from one of the thrusters on the moon lander led to it crash on the moon.

I would have preferred isro to send a follow on moon lander to complete the mission but unfortunately it seems they r too busy with the manned space program.

However as per the current isro official rooster for the next 5 years ind.... and Japan have a joint moon landing mission where isro will supply the moon lander by 2024.

So let's see.

Either way isro needs to land its probe on the moon's surface sooner or later to ensure ind.... claim on the moon's resources. ( Something we expect nations to fight over in the coming decades )

We might see a new moon mission announced after the completion of the manned space launch in 2022

The downside of being a late mover I guess. For them it was all about those extra units of bliss that comes with being labelled the FIRST to LAND IN THE LUNAR SOUTH POLE. It feels too monotonous attempting to grasp even the basic concepts first. No reason why ISRO wouldnt try to perfect landing on the near side of the moon first before trying the south pole. Especially regions close to the moon's equator that are smooth, no dangerous mountains, craters, steep slopes, effortless site selection, constant solar illumination during the entire mission, and a clear free-return trajectory back to Earth (Chandrayan took 6 days vs Apollo 11's four days for instance; though I understand the tight isro budget meant that they needed to tap Earth's gravity's slingshot to save on fuel).

They (isro) better start with fine tuning the fundamentals. Forget about the south pole for now and focus on mastering safe landing in the safe zones. So far they seem rather clueless as to what happened to the lander, despite initially claiming to have spotted it, only for NASA to prove they were not being honest.

Ultimately the race to the South Pole will be won by the initial 3-some, most likely a manned mission by NASA (Artemis). China's Chang'e 6 & 7 also very much candidates. Good thing with ISRO is it will potentially create the blueprint for poorer nations to successfully launch their own missions with constrained resources.

Arguably Earth's reentry & soft landing is different from moon landing. They could be justified especially with the earth-bound Human Spaceflight Programme.

Regardless, the lunar regions within the LQ04, 05, 06, 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 26 & 27 quadrangles all are/were safer bets than the silhouetted LQ30 zone, assuming a successful landing/ deployment of rover, and the only issue turns out to be power shortage. Its possible for the entire mission to be successful with the odd exception of rover deployment.

Some bastard had only one job! I know landing a rover is like landing a missile but overperformance should be the least of the concerns. It should be downgradable from mission control, really, unless the readings were misleading i.e a technical glitch. I would be more receptive of sensor hitch claims than mere overperformance. The sort of the infamous Mars Polar Lander sensors' inadvertent interpretation of the vibrations caused by the rover's unfolding legs to be the spacecraft itself arriving on the Martian surface and hence shutting the engine down, leading it to a free fall crash. There must have been a major malfunction, one that the isro, if they found out (assuming they havent), might find it hard to admit. It seems so btw. Either way, the next Vik lander should at least come with a cushion airbag as a bare minimum. Baby steps! Ignoring the shadows in the possible impact area, the lander seems to have been buried several meters deep after impact because there arent even trails of the crash site. Quite embarrassing I must say by predecessor standards. If Vik was the only lander ever sent to the moon by humans, and aliens visited, they would turn back a sad lot, utterly convinced that humanity has yet to figure out how to send probes into space.

Cruise missiles generally uses turbofan engines as opposed to tubojet engines.

In turbofan engines a portion of the inflowing air mass is bypassed while the rest is burned up to turn the fan , the bypassed air mixes with the exhast air to create thrust. Hence one cannot easily see a visible plume or flame

While in turbojet engines all the inflowing air mass is burned up to generate thrust. Hence one can see a visible plume or flame.

Turbofans r more fuel efficient and quieter among other advantages but the specific thrust level is lower for a given size .

Airliner passenger aircrafts uses turbofan but the sizes r huge and speed required is way below 1 mach.

While fighter aircrafts uses turbojets which requires speed above mach 1 and r of manageable size comparatively

While missiles with solid or liquid rocket fuel simply burn them in the combustion chamber and eject the expanding gases which is why a plume or flame is visible.

Also depends on the propellants , if there r of no smoking type then visual signature is less.

Ramjet and scramjet use more or less same principle but combustion is near 100 % so plume signature is reduced significantly.

A new drdo mobile radar system based on BEL 3D C/D Band Air Surveillance Radar which was revealed during defence expo 18 , it is a Multi-Function Active Phased Array Radar with Solid state Transceiver for Land and Naval applications. The Radar provides 3 dimensional target data along with Doppler data.

Don't form opinions or get confused by reading from them

90 % is misinformation or misrepresentation of facts.

Eg
In the Twitter link posted above , one will be surprised to know 2 of the Ind..... commentators were actually Pak...... handles , they r nowadays relatively sophisticated with tailor made usernames , profiles , comment history , IP address to elude identification as to the original source and role.

This is now a global phenomenon , for whatever reasons misinformation is rampant , almost all countries , companies , organisations , individuals r doing it . And end result authentic information is being replaced or pushed back by dubious information on a global scale.

And this will only get worse with time

How to counter it

Google for purely academic links from accredited institutions like research labs , universities etc if in doubt over a technical subject.

Or better still read books but i know many will not do it , books r nowadays out of fashion for the current generation especially .
