Now that's a new demographic I learnt about as a result of this thread.
Unfortunately Financing is not an option. Banks are better equipped for that kind of job and with good work histories should be available to people needing financing. Our core competencies is repairs and that's what we focus on. On the positive side, eherbal got a free repair from another party and that party may have better insight into financing in this environment.

You're just knowing that a lot people in banks or any other organisation earn 45k? Hmmmm

You need to look for a way to work with the banks to enable financing for steady income earners.

Doing the same @bold would see your business soar grealty. You just have to invest in that area.

what are you? Respond objectively.

I get we are "drivers" but when people say it condescendingly then it's wrong. If a girl comes to your shop and tell you " that's why you are a MECHANIC" in that manner then you will know it's wrong.

That's just a way of keeping costs low. Same was suggested to me to hire a rotating crop on contract or I think it's called industrial attachment? Corpers basically because they come cheap. I thought that was exploitation.
Corpers would love it ma. Please don't hesitate next time.

Where I work, we staff the junior cadre with Mechanical Engineering corpers. They come to work everyday, except on their community development days, earn their government allowance every month plus we top it up for them by #40,000.

They are always excited.

I can go on and on, but I don't see the insult in that statement. And then calling her a prostitute makes the matter worse.

Just joking. My people deserve all they get and more... Most of the time.

It makes sense why people resort to some of the things they do. But it doesn't change that sometimes it's penny wise, pound foolish. One has to think of ways to cater to that demographic. If it means in the future having a budget brand separate from our main brands that strictly deals in "rigging" and tokunbo parts to keep you going with full disclosure, that may be an option but one would have to do research to see if it is worth the potential problems. Yes, we know how to rig but don't.

At one point, EgunMogaji2 was talking about potentially opening an American style junk yard. If something like that was available, that demographic would be a lot easier to serve.

I think it is a whole lot easier for you people to respond to such, but there are jobs/positions you'll be in- you will learn to suck it up.

Nigerians are generally rude to public servants- drivers, waiters/waitresses, pump attendants...etc. Most Nigerians are!

I started from customer seevice at my former place of work, before I was moved to yet another unit I had to interface with customers. Was a bit lucky with the ladies- maybe they know we all have the same craze. So, they took their bad energies away from me, I only got the usual forming and phonetics from them. At first I used to get pissed, change my countenance- with time I started using silent treatment.

Right now, what I am very sure I will respond to is physical assault.

Gbam! I personally don't have any issues if u like called me cab driver, oko ashewo, driver, it's one of the "job hazard" I used to be a high tempered person but this uber job has humbled me. It's inside life!

According to gazzuzz as far as I'm getting paid. But I demand some respect, if you come in peace, I come in peace. But if you come in pieces I will go "guns blazing"

LOL, this line of argument just weak me. grin

Hope we could reason along with the drivers if they act unprofessionally to riders without provocation? May be they have had a rough day driving since, abi?

radautoworks:

She was rude, definitely but let's try to see the other side for a second. It's 12am (there are legitimate reason why she could have been out at that time before criticism starts), she needs a ride in a somewhat remote location, she thinks she has one then the carpet is yanked out from under her. It's possible he wasn't the first one she had gotten who had also cancelled, she's frustrated and he just got it. She may have just gotten in an argument with her man and was upset and just wanted to go home, etc..

Again, she was definitely out if line but it doesn't necessarily mean that was typical behavior for her. Before you respond, read below and think.

Lolz, there is a reason it's called emotional intelligence, this is obviously what most people lack.
A driver refused to go an extra "mile" to pick up a rider and as such made the rider to make a degoratory statement which was totally uncalled for. Gazzuz on the other hand saw the statement as an ambiguous one but when a statement like that is made during conflict or slight issues, the statement tilts more to follow a certain narrative...
It is crystal clear that drivers are being looked down on, we have seen countless testimonies on this thread how riders belittle drivers, some riders send them to go buy yam while having their maids in the car, some send them to buy food while they sit in the car, some would expect drivers to carry their bags to their door post etc and when a statement like "that's why you are a taxi driver" is thrown at you when there is a bit of ish, it surely means one thing... regardless of you try to look at it, it was bad of the rider to say such.
Stop trying to cover up things when it's obvious the statement was pun intended.

"That's why you are a taxi driver" could have simply meant: picking me up shouldn't be a problem.

You know when some people already have this over bloated ego/air of importance coupled with how they themselves see a taxi driver as a "nobody", they tend to be quick and alert to going on the defensive/offensive at even the slightest of innocent comments or demeanour. The next thing you'd hear is "is it because you see me driving a cab''?

Lose it man and always keep an open mind. You'd meet the cultured, unculutured and genetically nasties as in every profession. It isn't always because you are a taxi man...with the fact that you think your job is looked upon condescendingly probably because you do so yourself, at the back of your mind, every innocent utterance becomes a suspect and one you begin to give unnecessary flesh... grin

Another perspective. I thought along that line (first). Maybe she meant- "that is your job, to pick people up. Under the sun and in the rain".

But lots of drivers are pretty insecure of their jobs, even though they claim otherwise. This makes them unnecessarily defensive.

If she had said "that is why you are a/the CEO"...ermmm, would that be considered an insult? I don't think so grin grin

What is even wrong with being called what one is? There is dignity in labour and everyone should be proud of their hustle. I think that is even the first step in correcting this stereotype people have about DRIVERS.

You wouldn't always get respect. It is just what it is... I have learned to focus on who and what pays the bills.

Boss nice to say you can see through the lens, some can use you are mad on you and you will just laugh it off, same you are mad can lead to stabbing, its all in the context and time ofusage. There is nothing wrong in calling cab man, taxi or any name, but ppl should note just as fashion designer won't accept obioma/tailor same way uber drivers won't accept taxi driver grin (Just for joke). But one thing I'll lyk Gazzuz to understand is this, you accepted "Mechanic" today, probably because you have made your mark and find fulfillment being one, if you come back to the world again, you will obviously like to come back as one. The only thing I could decode from the text of that lady, was a message sent to spite someone, I am not in place to tell if getting back at her is right or wrong. A rider once sent a text of "it won't b better for her enemy" for declining her ride, me I did not reply cos I count it as an effort in futile, I honestly can't do the job of her parents at dat age.
